Eulogy

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Today, I would like to write a goodbye to a dear friend. I have known this friend for a little over a year and in that time they have given me insight, entertained me, made me laugh, and most important they have made me think. This friend didn’t ask for much in return, just loyalty. But there was a tragic accident this week for my dear friend and I’m afraid that something has just died. This week I saw my friend limping but I kept up the hope that it was just a minor affliction. Then I saw my friend stumble. Then, after one long hour I saw my friend die. So, goodbye my dear friend, I will sorely miss you.

OK, so maybe I’m being melodramtic, but come on people! Was this just the weirdest episode! I kept thinking that the writers had a “Take your kid to work day” and let them write the show! I will be writing more blog about the episode, but just needed to vent my frustration. We’ve had two excellent episodes and then they put Charlie in a diaper … WTF, mate?

The Hunting Party

Thursday, January 19th, 2006
Another great epi but come on Zeke! Pluck those brows!

1. I’m going to start with Jack’s hair. In the flashbacks he has the “exact” hairstyle that he has at the time of the crash. Timeframe?

2. Jack’s tattoo’s. I’m not going to take credit for this, just relaying to you, my devoted reader. But, if you look at the screen shot of Jack when he has his shirt off and he is talking to Sara, he clearly has no tat’s. Did he get them after Sara left? I see another Jack episode coming to explain his spiral down.

3. Again, not my idea but there are screenshots around the internet of the date on the X-Ray and it is 11-16-05. Prop mistake? Do they make mistakes at this point knowing between HDTV and TiVo (not to mention nuts like me) everything, and I mean everything, is going to be scrutinized. Or, are they messin’ with us friends?

4. Who is Sara seeing? Is she seeing anyone or do you think perhaps she is making it up to get away from Jack? Here are the possibilities… Desmond. I mention him first because looking back at the interaction between Jack and Des we all questioned why Jack was acting so oddly. Did Jack see a pix of them together at some point? Could Jack’s initial reaction to Desmond really be from such a long time ago on the bleachers? Could Desmond have been messing with her since before the surgery? It makes sense that Jack saw him and had more of a history than even Desmond knew. Or maybe Desmond did know it was Jack that was married to her and that explains his reaction to Jack. “Hello, brother!” OR Sun’s date. He did say he was in love with someone in The States. OR Jack’s dad. OR Hurley. Just kidding. I’m always trying to hook him up! Go doughboy! Seriously, unless someone can tell me the connection last night, I’m thinking that I’m onto something here.

5. Who were Gabriella and the “mystery” operation man? Hanso connection here? Could it be that we saw this scene to explain the God complex Jack is sporting? Gabriella has researched Jack and maybe has him in mind for something on the island with the Hanso Org.

6. OK, so they mystery man has a tumor on his spine and he can’t walk. Raise your hands if you see an epi coming up where Locke can’t walk anymore and Lo and Behold Jack suspects what? A tumor!! Maybe his redemption comes in fixing Locke.

7. Locke was up to his typical double-speak again. He tells Jack that he can’t just go around telling everyone what to do. I think that Locke knows Kate is following them (remember the epi where he knew that Charlie had been tailing him?) and that he was also commenting on her knowing that Jack specifically told her to stay behind. Maybe Locke was trying to soften the blow when Jack found out she was trailing them.

8. Why did Locke bring up Sawyer’s name in the middle of their jungle trek? And why does Locke like to call people by their “real” name? Remember that he calls Hurley “Hugo.” Locke seems to pick his timing of conversations very carefully so we can assume that Locke knows something. He tells James that “Sawyer” is an interesting choice. Was he leading up to telling him something from his past? Could it be that the theory that the “original” Sawyer was Locke’s dad?

9. Funny lines. Whoever writes for Sawyer deserves some kind of award. Like a trophy or something. Just kidding. But his lines are hilarious! “Yeah, there is my favorite leaf.” “Good thing I have my doctor with me.” “Mr. Clean.” “Going out for ice cream.”

10. Hurley loving. Yeah! I think next week we are going to see a Hurley dream about Libby. Remember his Cluckety Cluck dream (thanks Scott, for reminding me of this)? Hurley uses the cheesy line “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” Wouldn’t it be crazy if she joking said, “Not unless you spent any time at the XYZ Asylum.” The look on his face would be heartbreaking though!

11. Michaels journey. I stand firm that there was typing on the computer. Someone is luring him out of the hatch. Why else was he so insane about going alone? He knows what an excellent hunter/tracker Locke is and Jack told him they would band together and go get Walt. So there has to be a reason and Michael even tells Locke that he has to do it alone.

12. All we know is that Sayid was told that “everyone” went to chase after Michael. I am wondering if Sayid follows them. Why else does Jack go to Ana Lucia about the “army?” Maybe he can’t find Sayid.

13. The army. There are two things going on here. Jack asks the time frame of building an army to get an idea of how many “Others” there are out in the jungle. I think he also wants to use it as some type of gauge of how strong they are also. It is also because he wants to follow Michael and since Jack just can’t stand down he must go back into the jungle. Must be a man thing. Just kidding. Sort of.

14. So why “did” Jack go after Michael? There is usually a connection between the backstory and the current events. We assume that it’s because Jack is an egomaniac. Locke is going for what? Adventure? More answers? Did Locke really lose Michael’s trail? I doubt it. Locke has been doing his own research, if you will, and I think he wanted to lead them to these Others. Why did Sawyer go? Guilt over losing Walt? Does he deep down have a conscience? Did he lose something back home and this is his own redemption?

15. What was Sawyer hit with when he tried to shoot the Seabilly? I thought it sounded like he shot at Zeke and the bullet ricocheted but Scott said that someone shot at Sawyer first. AGAIN? Could this guy be any more unlucky? Or was there a slingshot like Ethan? Where did they get guns? Where did the torches come from? Where did they get the gas for the boat and where is the boat? AND MOST IMPORTANT, WHY DIDN’T ANYONE ASK THEM THESE QUESTIONS? Sawyer saw the boat so wouldn’t he speak up? Surely Locke and Jack have heard the story and know they had a boat so why not ask? When Seabilly says that they are “letting ” them stay on the island, I would have said “No, thanks. I’m ready to go home now.” No questions? What the …..

16. Walt is a “very special boy.” What does Zeke mean by this? Does he have the telekinetic powers that we are thinking? Maybe he’s just a good chess player.

17. Did anyone notice that Jack has stopped referring to the “Others” as the “Others” and now using the tailies word “Them?”

18. There are screen shots out on the internet showing what might possibly be the black smoke in the scene of the “ring” right as the lights go out. Need to watch this frame by frame to see if this is true. http://www.lostresearch.com/

19. Back to 15. PLUS, why wouldn’t the dialog have gone like this : “You’re here because we let you stay here.” Sawyer, “Then why the hell did you blow up our boat, Zeke?”

20. Zeke calls Jack, Locke, and Sawyer all by their names, yet refers to Kate as “the girl” or “her” or some such term. I think this shows that they have been watching them in the hatch.

21. Zeke looks right at Locke when he refers to them opening “Special Rooms.” Why? I’m leaning towards Locke having discovered something else on the island that he hasn’t told anyone about. The only reason he told Boone about the hatch is because he needed his help, or because he wanted to play dad, but either way, I don’t think that he really originally wanted to share that info with Boone. So, what the heck? Where is the special room and what is in there that Locke is hiding? Or, was Zeke in the hatch when Locke found it? Or watching them?

22. Again, info I am just sharing that I read, but Zeke says, “Alex, bring the girl.” ALEX? Danielle’s Alex? Screen shots don’t show the person, just an arm. There is definitely a reunion coming up.

23. Jeronimo Jackson. I was misinformed into thinking that this was a real band from the 70’s who were a one hit wonder, if you will. Now I don’t know what they are. My sis thinks that there is meaning in this name.

24. Next week: Fire & Water. Per ABC’s website, “When Charlie’s vividly surreal dreams lead him to believe Claire’s baby, Aaron, is in danger, Locke suspects Charlie may be using again. Meanwhile, Sawyer encourages Hurley to act on his attraction to Libby.” BTW, this is a Charlie flashback epi.25. I just found on the internet, the mystery crippled man is “Angelo” and they are Itailan. Good thing they didn’t shoot the Itailan dressing, Jack might be offended.

25. I just found on the internet, the mystery crippled man is “Angelo” and they are Itailan. Good thing they didn’t shoot the Itailan dressing, Jack might be offended.25. Next epi after … Water is Numbers, set to air Feb 1. Here is the ABC description, “When Hurley becomes obsessed with the French woman and heads into the jungle to find her, Jack, Sayid and Charlie have no choice but to follow. Meanwhile, Locke asks Claire to help build a mysterious item.”

Psalm 23 Part 2

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Oh boy, here it is Wednesday and I’m just now posting on last week’s episode. This job search stuff is really interfering with my Lost duties!

  1. The smoke. I’m just jumping right into this since it seems to be the topic of the most interest. Here is what I think, right or wrong, logical or crazy. Since we know that there are electro magnetic experiments on the island, it stands to reason that this cloud contains some sort of electricity. I keep reminding myself that the writers say that everything can be explained so it makes sense to me that the electricity in the “cloud” somehow stimulates the brain thus causing Eko and Locke to “see” familiar images to them in the smoke. I don’t think that Charlie could see what Eko was seeing because there was no projecting of his thoughts or reading his mind. I’m no expert on electricity (unless you count the hours of Sesame Street and/or other educational TV I watched with my daughter) but my guess is that it stimulates a brain response much like people describe when they have a near death experience. Eko and Locke saw their lives flash before their eyes
  2. What was Eko doing in Australia? Hunting down his “cargo” perhaps? Maybe that was the destination of the plane and he was hoping to find it and to also put his brother to rest. Remember he was wearing a suit that could just be another “disguise” much like the priest outfit was to him
  3. I thought it was an interesting pair, putting Charlie and Eko together. They both have brother issues. They both have a religious past. They both have a connection to the “cargo.” Black and white again.
  4. Why did the writers choose Psalm 23? They could have picked a lot of passages from the bible, so why this one? I don’t know, I was asking you!
  5. I also found the opening scene interesting, showing how the “others” came for the children. We don’t know what is happening to the children on the island yet, but are the writers leading us astray? Goodwin said that the children were “fine” and “better off” – could this be true?
  6. Michael on the computer. What did it say? All we saw was Michael ask “Walt” (who we all assume is not Walt) where he was and the reply “You need to come …” Scott and I discussed and his theory is that it says “ … alone.” This makes sense because we see tonight that Michael heads out on his on. WHY would he considering the hunters that he has on his side? I think that the writing was definitely on the computer and it appears that the “others” want Michael for something. Maybe his construction background? But I do think that he is not seeing things. Remember Kate’s horse was there, Sawyer’s boar, Walt, Jack’s dad (OK, we don’t know he’s there yet, but I think that Jack’s dad will make another appearance).
  7. Is Hurley going to get some loving? I hope so!
  8. Again we see the redemption and second chances theme at work here with Eko. I don’t know that they were brought to this island by some mystical force offering them chances, but I do think it speaks to the “real” John Locke’s theory of tabula rasa – their minds are again “blank” if you will, and they now see their experiences on the island through their experiences while they are there. I found this info on Locke (the philosopher) and I think it speaks to the “smoke” experience. “Locke maintained, because the primary world affects the sense organs mechanically, thus producing ideas that faithfully represent reality
  9. Shooting ranch dressing. Had it gone bad? Ranch is good on so many foods that I found it a shame that they chose this. There has to be so many things for targets on the island, did they have to shoot the ranch?
  10. Locke teaching Michael to shoot the gun. Maybe Michael was being taught how to see with his mind’s eye much like Locke taught Walt in using the knife. I think that these skills are going to come in real handy soon when Walt tries to escape the Others.
  11. How much hunting could Locke had done with his “dad?” We only saw them go twice – or was it implied? No matter, there just wasn’t enough time for Locke to have learned that much about guns from his dad. I sense more back-story coming!! Michael asked Locke how he knew so much about guns and he says that his dad taught him. Hm
  12. Could Eko possibly have a connection to Hanso? Eko was a businessman of sorts. Could that be why he was in Australia? I keep reading that Eko has a connection so I am wondering what it is.
  13. Burning fuselage in the middle of the jungle, no matter how wet the area is, seems like a bad idea to me. There also seemed to be quite a bit of fuel still in it so why stand so close as it burns! Just an observation, although as I type this I wonder if the amount of fuel suggests the location of the island in respect to Nigeria. Food for thought
  14. Tonight is Jack’s back-story. I already commented on the Hunting Party in a previous post, but just to recap there is an old Western movie where a man’s wife is kidnapped and he goes on a “revenge mission” if you will. TV Guide says we will see a surprise return of someone tonight also. Could it be Sara or Jack’s dad? Maybe more practically it will be Desmond or Ethan. Anyway, I wonder if Sara was nabbed back on the mainland?

Psalm 23 Part 1

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Yes, I will post, stop harassing me! I’ve been kind of busy this week because as most of you know by now, I have been nominated for Unemployee of the Year. I don’t take this honor lightly so it has consumed much of my time. Bear with me and add your comments if you wish. Otherwise, hang tight and Go Alito (who, I might add, has a wife that should be recognized this year at the Golden Globes for most dramatic performance. You go girl. Stand by that man.)!

My Feelings Exactly …

For anyone who works with me, you will understand that this is enough said …. thanks Eko.

lost

Friday, January 6th, 2006

My boyfriend and I were chatting the other day (topic not important) and he mentioned something about “lost.” I questioned him about what his topic had to do with Lost. He responded something to the effect that “lost - little L - IS still part of the English language, you know.” Followed with a pat on my shoulder.

Hm.
