Sawyer Meets the X-Men

Monday, November 27th, 2006

When I read this story I thought *FINALLY* Sawyer gets to kick some butt! I very much enjoyed the first two X-Men movies (I won’t go there on the third, it was just too painfully bad to discuss here) and look forward to seeing this!

LOST STAR UP FOR X-MEN ROLE
Source: Contactmusic.com

LOST star JOSH HOLLOWAY is being tipped to star in the next X-MEN movie as fan favourite GAMBIT. Holloway, who plays SAWYER on the hit TV show, was set to star as Gambit in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND but pulled out because of TV commitments. But it’s reported the model/actor will star in the next installment, which will not feature many of the film’s original stars, including HUGH JACKMAN, SIR IAN MCKELLEN and HALLE BERRY. The film’s producer LAUREN SCHULER DONNER tells Moviehole, “Remember in Lost? There was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy… Sawyer. “The reason we didn’t use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like WOLVERINE in that he’s got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. “That’s why we went to NIGHTCRAWLER on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, (but) it wouldn’t be The Gambit Movie”. Gambit possesses the ability to charge objects with energy, causing them to explode.

Vacation

Friday, November 17th, 2006

I took a vacation from my blog.  The show went on hiatus, why can’t I?

Anyway, I went back with Scott and we watched the Pilot episode and it reminded me of why I enjoy this show so much.  I remember when I first saw this episode that I thought that the *monster* in the woods concept was very silly, but now I look back at how far this show has come and I feel nostalgia for those long-ago episodes.

We can only hope that the writers can put the show back to where it was when the monster in the woods was eating pilots and boars were the only thing attacking the survivors.

3 X 06: I Do

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Forget Sawyer, Lost needs some serious redemption or they are going to *lose* viewers over the next 12 weeks. I will come back, but I’m obsessed so I don’t count. I have talked to more people who have *lost* their faith in the writers of this show. Did old Smokey eat Damon, Carlton and JJ and now we have ABC execs *insert shiver* writing and producing? Who said we need to sex up and dumb down the show? Not just with Kate and Sawyer but also bringing in Ken and Barbie, too. I just hope that you, my fellow Lost fans, can have faith that they will somehow revive this show. It has happened to other shows, I hope it can happen here, too. First, they must kill Ken and Barbie. Sorry, it needed to be said.

1. How perfectly fitting to have Kate marry a cop. How very sad how it ended for her. She wanted the “taco night” life but knew that wasn’t her. Edward (the cop formerly known as “The Marshall”) knew she couldn’t sit still. You could see the little girl in Kate living her *fantasy* when her mother-in-law gave her the necklace. As soon as she came around the corner with iced tea I knew that it was over. She could never get a passport to fly to Costa Rica (notice it was Oceanic Airline tickets?). On an aside, did she have to wear the silly 1950’s hairstyle? Or was that just so that for the first 1/2 of the show we would be questioning the timeline?
lost_kate_50hair.jpg Click to enlarge

2. It appears that this Kate backstory served to show us that Kate can never be with Jack. Jack is like Kevin, he is the *good* guy. Kate obviously loved Kevin very much, but in the end, as The Marshall told her, she had to run. As Sawyer said so long ago, a tiger doesn’t change it’s stripes. Kate *chose* Sawyer but her heart is not there. We could see it on her face when she first sees Jack. I LOVED that scene, btw. She never tells Sawyer she loves him, and when Jack tells her to leave him and run Kate is devastated. This was not the end of the love triangle. *If* Kate does get to safety she will do everything she can to get back to Jack and save him, too. Kate thinks that the criminal, Sawyer (I know that *we* love him, don’t get mad at me), is all she deserves.
lost_katejackmeet.jpg Click to enlarge

3. How did Ben know he had a tumor if the XRays were only a week old? Ben told Jack last week that he found out that he had a tumor and two days later a spinal surgeon fell from the sky. But the crash was about 70 days ago. Was it from the blood work? The timeline isn’t making sense of when he found out he has the tumor.

4. Points to the writers for getting *someone* on this island to wake up besides Desmond. When Jack threw the file at Juliet then told Ben he just wanted him to know how he would die, I was cheering! They lost me when Jack saw Kate and Sawyer together but I came back around knowing that Jack was conning Ben. Who is conning who here?
lost_jackpoint.jpg Click to enlarge

5. I’m thinking that once Kate radio’s back to Jack that they are safe he is going to let Ben die anyway. Then, he is going to turn to Juliet and say, “I kept my end of the bargain.” Then she’ll have to leave the *Others* knowing that the game will be up for her since they will know she made this deal with Jack. She told him she would keep him safe in exchange for letting Ben die. Maybe Juliet will be their ticket off this rock. She is set for the first backstory when we get back from the break so it seems she must be going to join as a regular cast member and they can’t keep Jack there forever.
lost_jacksurgery.jpg Click to enlarge

6. Thankfully, we only had to hear a line or two from Barbie this week and Ken just stood there. Ugh. That was *still* too much. Where is a big smoke monster when you need one, huh?

7. When Locke says that a bear killed Eko you can see by the look on Sayid’s face that he knows he is lying (a trained interrogator, remember?). He also knows that Locke is not heading back to camp to get shovels. But, Sayid is not unfamiliar with the *monster* as it appeared. Sayid has been around the monster before, albiet only in sound, when Danielle was holding him captive. He heard it and asked her if it was a monster and at that time she told him that there were “no such thing as monsters.” (Later on she told several Losties that it was a security system). Maybe they should go and talk to her, but that would make too much sense *groan*.
lost_sayidlocke.jpg Click to enlarge

8. Does Locke really believe that the smoke monster is what brought them there? That is what he tells Sayid in this scene.

9. Is it just me or does Kevin look remarkably like Tom? When he first opened the door I said, “It’s Tom!”
lost_kevinlooksliketom.jpg lost kates tom.jpg Click either image to enlarge

10. So the alarms go off when the compound has been breached. Is smokey the security system here? Are the two even related? When the alarms first go off, Pickett gets on the radio and before he even knows that it’s Alex he asks, “Where is she?” Who? Juliet? Then he goes on, after he asks if the doctor got out again, “Well does he know?” Does the doctor know or does HE know? Maybe the illusive HIM is getting upset with the Others and the trouble that they have been getting from the Losties. Maybe Pickett is hoping that HE doesn’t know there is a compound breach.

11. Even though I don’t like Pickett hurting Sawyer, I think it would be cool if he becomes some sort of *stalker* trying to regain his pride after Sawyer escapes. This could provide some very interesting scenes back on the beach! This guy is a great actor and this is a great role for him. Kill Ken and Barbie and write this guy in!
lost_pickett.jpg Click to enlarge

12. During the “breach” Pickett asks “how the hell did she get *OVER* here?” Does this mean that there are indeed two islands and if so, how DID she get there? Alex may be Kate and Sawyer’s ticket to safety.

13. Is Ben Alex’s daughter? Is she not the Alex that we assumed was Danielle’s daughter? Why does she ask to talk to Ben and later, why does Ben ask if Alex asked about him?
lost_alex_slinghsot.jpg Click to enlarge

14. Speaking of kids, in one of Pickett’s tirades he says, “Shepard wasn’t even on Jacob’s list.” In the Christian Bible (maybe others too, I don’t know) Ben is Jacob’s son. Connection or red herring? I’m guessing that Jacob is *Him* not Ben. Anyhow, why does Jacob have a list? I thought that Ethan and Goodwin were making the lists based on Ben’s orders? Maybe Jacob got the lists, did some research and then directed who they wanted. Did Ben modify the list because he knew that he had this tumor and wanted Jack to fix him?

15. What are they building here? Kate’s only says that it’s big. I’m thinking another hatch perhaps? But they are digging rocks, too, so they are also clearing the area. Do we even know enough about these Others to predict what is being built or are we just grasping at straws? They could just be using this as a distraction and a way to beat down Kate and Sawyer’s spirits.
lost_itsbig.jpg Click to enlarge

16. Speaking of the clearing site, those red flowers (remember, the poppies?) are all around this area. I doubt it’s a coincidence that the flowers keep popping (no pun intended) up around the islands.
lost_redflowers.jpg Click to enlarge

17. I was going to talk about the Kate-Sawyer and where Jack fits in love triangle thingy but it’s just too daytime soap opera-y for me. Talk amongst yourselves.

18. Was there supposed to be some weird imagery connection between Kate putting on the hood and Monica taking up her veil? They showed the one scene right before the other.
lost_kate_bag.jpg lost_kateveil.jpg Click to enlarge

19. Why does Kate continue to call and taunt the Marshall? She knows that he will never leave her alone. Why does she call around the holidays? Maybe he’s her reality check and she knows that she can’t stay with Kevin so she uses the Marshall as that reminder. Like a big sister that has to remind you sometimes when you are out of your element.
lost_katephone.jpg Click to enlarge

20. OK, so Jack gets a call over the intercom (sounded like Alex) right at the moment that Kate and Sawyer are on camera snuggling (we’ll call it that). Then he wanders through the hall and *bingo!* the one door open is the room with the cameras. How convenient. More importantly, though, Jack gets the handgun and has access to enough guns for Kate and Sawyer yet chooses to *save* Kate the other way. This doesn’t make sense. Jealous or not, he wants out of there and considers at least Kate his friend, why wouldn’t he take advantage of this?

21. We saw Jack able to run, Kate can get out of her cage and Sawyers lock is off of his cage yet they all stay. I’m not buying this. Either poor writing here or everyone had their own agenda but it’s not very obvious what it was. Even if Sawyer thinks they are trapped on *this* island, with his free spirit I could still see him trying to escape captivity. I don’t understand this.

22. Speaking of Sawyer, he KNOWS that there are cameras around yet he still gets down and dirty with Kate right there? Then, they spend the night nude together knowing that the Others could walk up any minute. I guess he must be thinking he doesn’t have anything to lose at this point. Ick!

23. We know that when Michael went looking for Walt he went North. Then, Locke looks at the stick and it tells him to go North. I guess we will find out what it up there because Locke is on a mission. Good thing he has Sayid along, but wouldn’t it have been better to have a whole army of people to help? Locke keeps going out on these missions like some lone militia but last time it got Boone killed!
lost_stick_north.jpg Click to enlarge

24. Speaking of this scene, this is a good example of how this show has been dumbed down. Did they really need to highlight what they wanted us to read? In the past, we would have been given a screen shot and the producers trusted that we, the viewers, were astute enough to figure out what we were supposed to see. I mean, we screen shot and analyze *everything!* Come on ABC, give us back *your* faith that we can figure it out!

25. The *only* reason I am posting a screenshot of this scene is because Scott pointed out how clean Kate’s feet are here. Little distractions are easy to find when you are having trouble staying *in* the show.
lost_cleanfeet.jpg Click to enlarge

26. Did Kate *accidentally* kill Kevin when she drugged him? I hope that she didn’t but remember that the Marshall made a snide remark about her getting more juice to drink and how *they might believe her story* when they were on the plane? Is Kevin the man that she loved but killed (not Tom)? Or is this just her *MO* before she runs (drugs them and then leaves them)? She does drug Jack to get him to sleep, drugs Jin, well technically Michael drank the water (for Sun) and helps Sawyer drink the water to take his medicine.
lost_kate_drinks.jpg Click to enlarge

27. With all the weird fertility stuff going on here I would bet money that Kate ends up pregnant by Sawyer. Ew, again with the stupid soap opera story lines! If this does happen, I hope the story line is twisted enough to fit the Lost ideology. For instance, we don’t know what the Others *did* to Kate before they brought her to the cage. They are fertility doctors…

28. Jack gives Kate an hour head start. Isn’t that what Kate asked her *dad* for when she went and saw him last season?

29. In the upcoming episodes it looks like we are going to find out what did happen to Desmond after the hatch blew. Should be interesting!

Jack’s Story

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

The story he told Kate was about the time he was in his residency and was doing his first spinal surgery on a 16 year old girl.  He says he cut open her (dura - duma ?? what do I know) sack and the nerves came out like angel hair pasta.  He says he was frightened to the point of being paralyzed.  But he counted to five and at five would not allow the fear in anymore.  He tells her the story because she is scared to sew his wound and he is giving her encouragement.

3 X 05 : The Cost Of Living

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

I was pretty upset when they killed Eko. What a supreme dichotomy of good and evil wrapped into one character. But then I got to thinking… and I said to myself that the *only* way that I would accept that the writers know what they are doing is if the actor himself wanted out of this show. Well, what do you know? He did. You can read the full article here, but if you love this character you may not want to read it. He comes off sounding very arrogant. You are on the number one show on television and after just one backstory you don’t like what they are doing to the character and want out? Now his big project is an autobiography. Yeah, I am almost happy that he is moving off of this show.

That doesn’t mean that I want Ken and Barbie there, but I would rather Eko bow out of the story gracefully, or violently, before I know anymore about what kind of person this guy is outside of the show. I like my little pretend world where all the actors are *just* like their characters. Don’t spoil that for me!

1. I thought this was an interesting shot of the priest, only with half his body showing. Almost foreshadowing that Eko would be back although he would in his heart only be 1/2 priest.
lost_half_priest.jpg Click to enlarge

2. Interesting that they chose to have the eye this episode closed. Eko wasn’t blind to his *sins* any more than any other character on the island. Maybe, however, he was the only one that was making a concious choice to have his *eyes closed* because the pain of his life was too much and he didn’t want to face them.
lost_eko_closed_eye.jpg Click to enlarge

3. Thank goodness some of the writing is still alive. When Sayid is beside an unconscious Eko he asks Charlie what happened to him. Charlie responds, “Before or after we saved him from the polar bear cave?” Savid walks away in disgust. Ah, just like old times.

4. Poor Hurley. He asks Eko to stay alive. We know why. And we know what happens later on this episode.

5. Obviously from the way Eko was running around seeing things, Locke got to him with his special wacky paste. First of all, who put Locke in charge of making everyone let go of their past (Boone, himself, Charlie, now Eko)? Anyway, I wonder who was really standing there in the tent? My bet is Locke. The tent burns up. I doubt this was a mistake, I dont’ think, however, he meant to burn the tent down. But, Locke was forcing this vision quest for Eko. On the other hand, Shannon saw Walt inside of her tent before she died and I don’t think it was Locke in that case. Is someone on the island leading them to their doom by inducing hallucinations of people from their past?
lost_eko_yemi_tent.jpg Click to enlarge

6. I still think it’s Locke in Eko’s *sweat tent.* He runs up right after the fire starts and asks where Eko is (making sure he got out?). Then when Charlie looks around and says he’s gone Locke doesn’t look too surprised. Locke also sends *Charlie* and *Hurley* to look for his tracks. Doesn’t sound like Locke was *that* worried what happened and where Eko went.

7. Ok so Ben just lets Jack wander about during Colleen’s funeral? Obviously it’s part of the mind game but get real, would they not have him somehow shackled?

8. I think for the first time since his appearance, Ben actually looks surprised when Jack mentions his tumor. Is it there, is it a set-up, who knows. But I believe that it was Juliet who put the X-rays there and Ben did not know about it. It’s her con that they are playing now. I do believe that she wants Ben dead but I don’t think it’s because he is some sort of tyrant leader but something more sinister with *her.*
lost_ben_surprised.jpg Click to enlarge

9. Not sure what to make of the white, I’m sure there is some religious significance to it. What is more important is that these Others know that their dead must leave the island. Think about it, Jack’s dad and Yemi both were not buried, their bodies disappeared then reappeared to the person who would know who they were and then led them somewhere. Eko died and Jack could have as he slipped off the cliff (Locke came and saved him). Is whoever is running the smoke monster resurrecting the bodies and using the image against the survivors?

10. Like the *family* Locke lived with back home, this group of Others is looking more and more like a cult. I doubt it’s religious, but imagine what the Hale-Bop gang would have done with some technology and an operating room. Creepy!

11. This dog is not Vincent, but where has he been? The dog always show up when there is trouble (like Scooby Doo!) so where is he? Maybe he’s with Rose, Bernard, Jin and Sun since we haven’t seen them either. Do the writers think we aren’t going to notice this? Forget writing for Ken and Barbie, keep the characters on screen that we know. Flesh them out more and forget trying to liven up the joint with a hot chick and a perfect haired man.
lost_notvincent.jpg Click to enlarge

12. The little swarm that swims around in the jungle is definitely different and another entity from the *big* black smoke. It seems almost as if it’s the look out, that finds something interesting to report back. As far as Eko’s hallucination of the people he killed in the church, first the little boy shushes Eko eerily similar in the way Walt did to Shannon. Then, to clear the record, he says “confess,” not something backwards. We know the meaning. End of comment.

13. What a stupid set-up about anybody coming along with Locke and then Ken and Barbie volunteer. Could they have just left it with Hurley asking because he’s too afraid or whatever cute and charming thing Hurley might be thinking? Barbie turns around, RAISES HER HAND and says, “I’ll go.” Enough said. *Insert groan of disbelief here*

14. Reflections. This one was the most symbolic so far to me. This is from when Locke was dipping his bottle for water. Very dark.
lost_locke_darkreflection.jpg Click to enlarge

15. ABC, can you please give Desmond more screen time? To me, he is now the most interesting character. True, we know the least about him, but he asks questions, he is doubtful of intentions, he pays attention, he does what the viewers keep yelling at the tv! If *he* runs across Danielle, I bet they will have quite a chat! Is Desmond the only one who truly wants to get off this island? For the record, however, Sawyer still gets the best lines.
lost_desmond.jpg Click to enlarge

16. These must be some religious writers and cinematographers. This scene was like the Lord’s prayer all wrapped up in a nice screenshot. Oh yeah, except for the smoke monster part.
lost_ekobystream.jpg Click to enlarge

17. The scene where the men come to the church for the vaccination is interesting. First you think that Eko is some bad-a** standing up for the church. Then you remember that he is a drug dealer after all and it looking to get his own cut. But then you remember that he has something to make up to Yemi so would he or wouldn’t he take off with the medicine?

18. Smokey retreats here. But is it because Eko startles it by standing up to it or is it because Locke & co. are coming? I think that this thing somehow feeds off or can sense fear and Eko startles it.
lost_eko_smokeyrun.jpg Click to enlarge

19. What is up with this cheeseburger? This chick is psycho and probably did kill the cow, etc… But Desmond appeared to be eating eggs that weren’t really eggs so who knows what the cheeseburger might *really* made of. “Soylent Green is people!” lol
lost_cheeseburger.jpg  Click to enlarge
20. Ben vs. Juliet. Ben comes in and *reveals* to Jack what the con was going to be. For the record, I don’t think that Juliet looks like Sarah. Anyway, all part of the con Jack, WAKE UP BUDDY! The two are obviously at odds. Is Jack that naive?

21. Here is my sister’s theory, and I like it! What if Jack cuts open Ben and doesn’t find the tumor? Jack won’t kill him, I don’t believe it. But Ben will awake and tell Jack that it was the only way to get him to believe that the island heals. Of course, Ben is hoping that as a scientist Jack will want to stay and as a surgeon who desperately wants to fix everyone.

22. But, what if that X-Ray actually was Locke’s? Or someone else we don’t know about? Jack would believe the con. Especially with Ben’s big speech about God dropping a surgeon out of the sky. Come on Jack! Has he forgotten that Kate and Sawyer are caged too?

23. I’m not going to discuss the rolling away of the stone from the plane. It’s been discussed to death on all the boards.

24. I was expecting more of a reaction from Desmond over going down into the hatch. He spent *years* down in one and I would think that a person would have some post traumatic stress from that! The writers missed a big chance here. Of course, they found it more important to show Ken coming out of the toilet. Yeah, good choice ABC.
lost_desmondreaction.jpg Click to enlarge

25. The patched man. I think he’s running smokey. He’s the *wizard* behind it. I have a feeling that after meeting him we will truly start believing that Ben’s Others are *not* the bad guys after all!
lost_patchedguy2.jpg Click to enlarge

26. Juliet supposedly puts in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” One of the major themes of the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird is an exploration of human morality, and presents a constant conversation regarding the inherent goodness or evilness of people.” Pretty obvious meaning there.

27. Could this be a field of poppies? Ironically, it is the same type of field where Hurley met Dave. It is also from a famous scene in the Wizard of Oz. Hallucinogenic possibilities?
lost_field_eko.jpg lost_field_hurley.jpg wizardofozpoppies.JPG Click any image to enlarge

28. This is so creepy because whoever is messing with Eko put on this burnt suit to trick him. What I love about this show was right on track in this scene. When Yemi says, “You speak to me as if I were your brother,” they were right on track. Of course we were all saying, “What the….” just like we love from this show. I don’t want to know right now all the answers. I don’t want the obvious resolution to who Fake Yemi is. I want to keep guessing!
lost_yemi_burnt.jpg Click to enlarge

29. Eko finally appears afraid of old smokey. That is why I think he dies.
lost_eko_closeup.jpg Click to enlarge

30. I don’t think that smokey is really just smoke. This is a machine, to use my daughter’s words, “shrouded in smoke.” I couldn’t have put it better. I think that we see the bigger part of the machine rise up from the ground and then a mechanical arm reaches out for Eko. I think that Mr. Patch is running the thing, too. Remember when it had Locke by the leg it didn’t look like smoke had him.

Thanks to my honey, Scott, for making this picture.
