Will you watch?
Tuesday, January 30th, 2007I’m looking at my blog feeling guilty for not having written anything since early this month. Will I keep this blog going for the remainder of the season? Probably. It’s not because the big pause in episodes that I’ve somehow lost (no pun intended) my *oomph* for this blog or my interest in the show. So what is it and will *you* still watch?
I’ve been thinking the best way to summarize the show this season so far is watered down. It’s really lost it’s edge. Have the writers grown weary? Has ABC insisted on changes, like sexing up the show, to boost ratings? And if that is the case WHY move the show to 10 when most working people are in bed (say, thank you to TiVo for saving the ass*s of more than one show). But I’m sure that poor ratings are going to be blamed on the hiatus. Which is ridiculous. I, amongst many, waited anxiously over the summer for Lost to return. I didn’t lose my interest even a tiny bit. But then it comes back on and we are given weak story lines, pretty new characters out of no where, and forced dialog. Sorry ABC, it has nothing to do with the hiatus.
So you won’t be finding long thought out blogs here on Wednesday nights after the show. They will be around just not immediately like before. I’ll still have to TiVo and watch the show, but you won’t find Gitsie Girl driving 60 in the 35 zone to get home and watch it live. I might stay up for the first couple of weeks to see if they can bring this show back to life but I cannot promise that I’ll not eventually wait even until the weekend to watch the episode. Especially if rumors are true and they are going to make us suffer through a back story for Ken or Barbie (aka Nikki and Paulo).
It’s sad to see Lost be infected by the *black oil.* Remember the good old X-Files before the black oil came into play? There is still good TV out there (I’m thinking Heroes) but will they dumb down these shows too when they want to boost ratings? I mean, Lost was not developed to draw the American Idol fans. Sure, I like that show but if I want to use my brain I turn to Lost. Are they thinking that they can add sexy characters and AI fans will turn over the channel? I guess this is a moot point considering the new time slot anyway.
On an aside, I’ve noticed that my Lost site isn’t the only one that has lost it’s steam. It’s hard finding Lost news anymore outside of who is getting arrested or divorced. I’m worried that Lost may not even make it another year if fans are turning away.
So I’ll keep watching and I hope you keep reading and leaving comments. Tell me that I’m wrong, please! Tell me that you love the new direction and why! I literally put in the first couple of episodes (Season 1) the other weekend to remind myself why I became so obsessed with this show. It was a beautiful thing. But did I just torture myself watching the old episodes? Remember when Kate didn’t cry all the time? Remember when Locke was the lone horseman wandering through the woods doing who only knows what? Remember when we heard the whispers and were intrigued? I want that back, please!
