Anyone who saw the Transformers movie was privy to the trailer for the new JJ Abrams movie tentatively called “Cloverfield.” I’ll also put a link here but from what I’m reading Paramount has been asking people to take them down.

At first I’m excited. A new JJ (I call him JJ now) project! Yeah for us! Then I start doing my internet homework. Exhausting to say the least. Here is what we do know for now.
* Scheduled for release 1-18-08
* Premise is a sea monster climbs out of the water and attacks New York
* Tentatively called “Cloverfield” or “Clover” but neither is official
However, just like the infamous Rachel Blake (and I hesitate to utter her name knowing the massive amounts of crap she supposedly put out there about Dharma… she’s not real people!) there is a guy named Van who has video diaries talking about some Ethan Has and his future predictions (here are a couple of links: The Truth of Ethan Has and Ethan Has Was Right). It is just all too much! You have to shuffle around the official movie website www.1-18-08.com or go to YouTube if you are lazy like me, to find these video clues. Is this sounding like the Lost Experience or what?
All JJ had to do was say, “Hey GG, I’ve got a new movie coming out in January,” and that would have been good enough for me. OK, OK, the guy knows about nuts like me who screencap and analyze every millisecond of Lost. But that doesn’t mean that I want to do it with *every* project that he does. Surround it with mystery, OK. Add a cool homemade movie look to it, OK. Let Drew Goddard write it, excellent. But the rest is too much for me. If you want to follow the clues you’ll need to start at the official site. If you would like a head start check out this site. Those geeks (hey, that’s what they call themselves) have lots o’ links for more info and rabbit holes for you to follow.
On a positive note, from what I’ve seen the movie looks pretty cool and we can probably expect excellent special effects. It’s great that JJ is making the movie experience more than just two mindless hours in front of the screen. He is expecting that the viewers have brains and we sometimes use them.
For now, I’ll read updates and probably post them. But beyond that, I’ll just go see the movie in January.
