More Q Than A

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Here are some highlights from a recent Q & A with producers Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, with producer/director Jack Bender.  You can read the entire transcript here.  There is actually a lot of good stuff in there, but some of the answers are so ambiguous that I don’t know if they are really more of a “Q” and less of an “A.”

**************************************
* 16 episodes next year, but 18 hours of Lost. Jack Bender confirmed a two hour season premiere, and a two hour finale.

* After Lost, they will go in to hiding for a while, due to the inevitably interpretive quality to the series ending.

* Damon: You are married to your destiny, you can try to avoid it, but it will catch up to you. This is why Charlie shut the door in the Looking Glass station, because he embraced his death.

Q: Jack was originally a protagonist for the show, but he seems to have gotten more antagonistic as it goes on. Was this intentional?
A. JB: Matthew Fox loved the idea of wearing the not so flattering jumpsuits and his character beginning to let go of his heroic side, which people accuse me of, taking Jack Shepherd’s character.

Q: I want to know about the end of Lost. Michael Emerson said in an interview this week that he suspects it will be quite bittersweet or melancholy. Is it going to be an upbeat ending or ambiguous? Just any kind of hint to the flavour of the ending.
A.  DL: All of the above. We are aspiring for an ending that is fair. Bittersweet comes with the territory. The ending will be different as for once, we won’t leave you on a cliffhanger. You will stay on the cliff this time.
A.  CC: We hope that if we like it, you will like it.

Q: Season 5 was hard work watching, with time travel. How are you going to pay that off
A.  DL: We acknowledge with a degree of difficulty. We were ostensibly frightened at first with the time travel story, were basically desperate to get everybody back together again. Time travel is now complete and everybody gets back together in one form or another and we feel that season 6 is a lot like season 1 with its community.

Q&A ended here. The guys signed stuff for the fans. My friend had a copy of Half Blood Prince, Damon signed it saying ‘Locke is VERY similar to Snape!’

(if you’ve read Harry Potter you know that Snape doesn’t turn out to be who you think he is…)

Season Six To Answer Burning Questions (or something like that)

Friday, July 17th, 2009

What do you want to know the answer to?  Why is Kate so obsessed with that plane?  How did Walt “appear” on the island when he wasn’t there?  Was Mr Friendly set to make a cameo in Bruno before his untimely death?  Well, you may get your answers”

ABC ‘Lost’ Final Season 6 Will Answer All Questions

Zap2it reported that the producers of the show Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse spoke over in London at a BAFTA event, and stated that the season would end in season 6,and that they do not want to extend it in a movie, comic book, or anywhere else.

They will also make sure that they end it by answering as many unanswered questions as possible. Lindelof stated, “We won’t be vague and ambiguous. There will be a lot of answers. We feel that if we hold anything back in the final season, it would be bad. Everyone’s come this far, and they want a conclusion to the story. We have no plans to continue the story of ‘Lost’ beyond season six. My wife says ‘never say never.’ I say ‘never.’ ”

They are scheduled to start production on the sixth and final season of “Lost” in August. Carlton Cuse let a couple of small spoilers slip out. He said that the sixth season will feel more like season one,and that there’s a circularity to the show. He also said that the smoke monster will become “an interesting character in and of itself.”

Lindelof said that the fans will not be left with a cliffhanger of any type, but not everyone will be happy with the ending. He stated,”Bittersweet comes with the territory. The ending we’re aspiring to is fair.”

An exact premier date for Lost’s sixth season hasn’t been set yet by ABC,but it looks like it’ll be returning in it’s usual midseason slot in the beginning of 2010

Five Emmy Nominations For Lost

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

I am thrilled to see Lost up for “Outstanding Drama Series” but I was definitely expecting more.  Especially after that final scene with Juliet and Sawyer.  Hopefully the actors know how much we appreciate them.  And to the writers, directors, and everyone else that is lucky enough to be involved with the making of perhaps the best show ever on television.  *sigh*

Here are all the nominations this year.  I predict tons of nominations next year after the series finale (I shiver just writing those two words).
* Outstanding Drama Series

* Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series – Michael Emerson as Ben Linus

* Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse

* Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series – Editors Stephen Semel, Mark Goldman, and Chris Nelson

* Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour) – Production Sound Mixers Robert Anderson and Ken King, and Re-Recording Mixers Scott Weber and Frank Morrone
The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will air September 20 on CBS.

Write The Theme Song

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

It’s a mock contest, but if you really want to write a theme song for Lost, click here for the details.  The winner will be announced at Comic Con.  Not that they’ll use it in any way for Lost besides to fill some time at the convention and keep fans interested in the show.  Or, maybe they’ll have you sign off the rights so they can play it at Comic Con and then later use it for another show.  Nah, a huge media conglomerate wouldn’t screw you now would they???

Oh, and entries are due by July 16th so log off and go get busy!

Happy Birthday Foxy!

Cute Video…

Dom All Summer!

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Hello Lost friends!

For anyone who saw Wolverine, you know as well as I that it was a special treat to see Charlie Dominic Monaghan as “Bolt” the lovable (well, I thought so) mutant with the ability to control anything electric.  While he didn’t have much screen time (dang you writers) I was still thrilled to see my Charlie back in the land of the living.

(I tried to find a picture from the movie but since Dom pretty much looks like himself – no fancy costumes or CG – I decided to insert a gratuitous shot that I like of him).

Now I read about a cute little movie (and I mean that with scarcasm) entitled “I Sell the Dead.”  “I Sell the Dead follows the story of Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan) and Willie Grimes (Larry Fessenden), two grave robbers, who one day discover a body with a stake through its heart. Now unfortunately, Willie and Arthur have not been educated by pop culture and don’t know that if you find a body with a stake in it, you just never remove it… This new “adventure” leads them to become dealers for the undead, in this very original and funny horror/comedy movie.”

You can be sure if this one is showing within a 50 mile radius of GG she’ll be there!
The irony of this picture did not escape me.

Of course the rumor mill is still churning out stories of Charlie appearing in four episodes of Lost next season (be still my beating, lonely heart)  and that Dom has signed on for some other ABC show.

That’s all I had.  Just wanted to say HI if anyone out there is reading this over the summer.  Plus any reason to blog about Dom and put pictures up is a happy occasion for me!
