3 X 23: Through The Looking Glass Part Two
Whew, if I put it all in one post I wasn’t sure anyone, including myself, could get through it all. I had to backdate this one so it would post second. By the way, I will continue to blog throughout the summer with news bites and information that I find out there. Keep stopping by friends! GG
1. Whoa, Jack loves Kate? This poor woman, these men sure do have a p-poor way of showing it.

2. I really need to get a better resolution of these. Here is another shot of the newspaper clipping:
3. This one is better and you can make out words! The very top and the 2nd line both say “Los Angeles.” The next line says “Man Found…(can’t see the rest, it’s crumpled)” next line in heading says “Downtown…” I guess we can rule out Juliet. The first line of text starts out “The body of…” the next line at the end reads “shortly after 4″ next line last words are “of Grand.” Next paragraph first line ends with “at The” next line ends in “loft” and then you can make out a few words but not much. Now we’re getting somewhere! I’ve looked at every single frame of this scene and this was the best shot that I could get.

4. I thought that perhaps the name of the funeral parlor would offer up a clue to the identity of the dead man, but I could not come up with anything. Sawyer is the closest.

5. The director asks, “Friend or Family” and Jack responds that he is neither. I’m still leaning towards Sawyer.
6. Danielle doesn’t want to leave the island but will she change her mind now that she has Alex? I wonder who else will want to stay? Rose because of her cancer? Locke.
7. So now they throw in the Christian Shephard curve ball. I think that Jack forged the prescription and I think he is so drugged up that he tells them to get his dad from “upstairs.” I don’t think he’s in this future. He is dead. Plus when the pharmacist says she’s going to call his office Jack respond that he’s out of town right now. Then why tell the hospital to get him from upstairs? Why would his dad even write the prescription for him? It doesn’t make sense.
8. Why would the people on Naomi’s boat kill every single living person on the island? Is the island quarantined and there is some sort of sickness there? Is that why Ben can’t let them leave? That they would spread whatever it is?
9. I’m not going to condone violence, but boy, some people just need a good butt kicking.

10. How convenient, the code was programmed by a musician. But “Good Vibrations” was an ironic song.

11. Is it just me or are Kate and Danielle looking a lot alike these days?

12. Now Hurley is a killer, too. This episode has turned many of the Losties into killers. Jack seems to remain one of the few left that haven’t killed anyone…. yet. But I have to say I was cheering as I am sure many of you were that Hurley didn’t go off and find Dave in a depression but instead found a way to help.

13. I was still hoping for a Mr. Friendly flashback but I guess that can’t happen unless Tom has Mikhail’s magical healing powers. I’m torn deciding if Sawyer was right or wrong killing him. But I got a chuckle when Hurley said that he had surrendered and Sawyer said he didn’t believe him.
14. I don’t care how against all odds it is that Penny is transmitting right at that moment, I loved this scene. It reminded me of when Boone first found the radio on the plane and how much hope that there was at that moment. Now, for the bad side… I think that if Penny had not come across that television Charlie would be alive. I believe that once Desmond saw Penny and then Charlie saw the grenade, Charlie knew that Desmond would die in that room trying to talk to her. *That* is why Charlie shut himself in.

15. I can’t stand it that Mikhail is the Energizer Bunny of death. I have a feeling that just like Sawyer and Tom, Desmond will have Charlie’s revenge on this guy. Desmond let him go once but I doubt that that will be happening again. And the next time he won’t be able to regenerate another life and crawl away. Plus, he took Desmond’s chance to talk to Penny away. Double Wammy.

16. I couldn’t put any shots of Charlie drowning in here. It almost physically pained me to watch that scene. But, he was the hero twice over for one, unjamming the signal and two, for getting the message to Desmond that it is not Penny’s boat. Maybe Ben was telling some truth….. finally.

17. Charlie is definitively dead. Here is an interview with Damon that solidifies it and has some other interesting info. Darn it all. If you can, there is also a video on the side of the article with Dom. UGH! I hate that this character is gone!
18. How apropos to have Karl watching over Ben while he’s tied to the tree.
19. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of Locke here. First he kills Naomi without a blink of his eye. Then he can’t shoot Jack. He just tells him he’s not supposed to do it and then walks away? HUH? I’m hoping that next season this will make more sense.
20. This scene with Jack on the phone reminded me of when the raft met up with the tug boat at the end of season one. Remember Mr. Friendly? “Well, isn’t that something?” Then the proceeded to take the boy. Makowski (or whatever his name was) can sure find them! But will they end up with another Mr-Friendly-stealing-the-kid-and-shooting-the -survivors situation? Guess we have to wait SEVEN AGONIZING MONTHS to find out! Is it Penny’s Dad who sent the boat? That would explain why Naomi had the picture.

21. Why is Kate so excited about being rescued (outside of the being tortured by the Others thing)? Won’t she be arrested as soon as they get back?
22. Future Kate looks great! She doesn’t look like Danielle anymore!
23. I think that this future Jack can be changed. I don’t think it has to be this was and that is why we are seeing this. Maybe we are supposed to have more empathy for Ben and whatever is going to happen with these *bad* people. Jack is so hell bent on getting them saved and I’m fearful that something really, really bad is going to happen in order for that to happen. Should be interesting to see and I can’t wait for next season! From where we started with the first three episodes I would have never guessed that this season was going to end up being so good. Redemption!

Honey!!, a little help from Chile. South America if u don’t know it.
4. I thought that perhaps the name of the funeral parlor would offer up a clue to the identity of the dead man, but I could not come up with anything. Sawyer is the closest.
The name is an anagram for FLASH FORWARD!!!!
Cool, isn’t it.
May 27th, 2007 at 3:20 am
Pablo - awesome! have to go back and look for myself now. anagram. whodathunk?!?
14 - i think charlie may have shut himself in because *that* is what desmond saw in his vision - and charlie knew that he needed to drown so as not to mess up the vision and not to mess up the next part where claire and aaron were seen getting onto a helicopter. so, i think he did it to be noble and save claire and aaron. you’d think by now these guys wouldn’t trust ANYTHING on this island, let along weird future visions.
19 - starting to think there *IS* some weird timeloop thing going on. i think jake is jacob. if locke shoots current jack then future jacob wouldn’t be in the cabin so locke *CAN’T* shoot him. that would be exasperating.
looking forward to read’n you in the summer!

Theory number 2458721:
Kate is Annie, Sawyer is dead in the coffin and the “he” she has to get back to is her long lost boy friend-Ben, who made a plane crash on his island so he have her back. BTW just how Glam does Kate look in the future!
May 27th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Kate’s “he” is definitely not her son. She doesn’t say “he needs me” as though she would if it were a baby. She says “He’s gonna be wondering where I am.” So, if it were her son, he would have be (a.) old enough to stay home alone, and (b.) old enough to wonder where mom went. “He” has got to be her husband or boyfriend. As far as the dead person……This is much to mysterious of a show to have it be Ben or Locke or Sawyer. At this point, that’s who they want us to think it is. I’m thinking it is someone we haven’t even been introduced to yet.
May 27th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Guess I should have done some research before giving up on that anagram. Here is a link with lots o’ easter eggs from the episode, including the anagram: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/lost/more/lost-through-the-looking-glass-6902.aspx
May 28th, 2007 at 6:09 am
actually i think jack did kill someone sort of. He helped kill the marshal after sawyer shot him way back in the first season. I guess he just did it to help him die faster and not suffer.
May 28th, 2007 at 3:22 pm
wow. i just seen the episode i think its great. regarding the coffin can i say i think it is locke, he had no family to vosot and jack felt he had to go cos locke could not kill him??? jack is jacob who i think we will find out found a way back to the island in a time loop and is playing with ben instead of killing him, cos he knows the outcome. the people on the boat are dharma group trying to get back the island to retrieve the time loop device that is on there of which bens people probably dont know how to work it? wow my head is spinning with all sorts and i dont think it will stop spinning for the next 250+ days until season 4. cant wait.
May 28th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
I thought “only 3 people know the code. Me, her, and Ben”……………but then later, she says it was programmed by a musician. Maybe Ben’s the musician. However, if he was, she would have just said Ben was the one who programmed it. It’s probably nothing significant, I know, but more than 3 people knew that code.
May 28th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Foffman - It was programmed by a musician. Who’s to say how many feet under the ground this musician became soon after programming it…

OK, so first of all…my vote is Micheal in the coffin. Lostpedia found a few more words on the obituary such as that the dead man was from NYC (Micheal was) and that he is survived by his teenage son (Walt). Lostpedia also found letters of the man’s name, and the first name you can make out Jon…. which could be conclusive with John Locke, but the last name is something strange that I don’t remember at the second, but it’s no one we know. BUT, if the person in the coffin is someone we don’t know, we would’ve been able to see his face. So, I think Micheal changed his name after returning home and it’s him in the coffin.

GG, was this not the best episode of LOST yet?
I sat there full-on weeping during Charlie’s last scene. I’m devastated to see that character go, and I’ll miss Dominic Monaghan more than words. Back before the show started, my sole reason for anticipating its premiere was because DM was one of the stars — and I’ve been a DM devotee since his LOTR days (my other huge obsession). He deserves an Emmy for not only this last episode, but the one before. There are great things ahead for our little Hobbit rock-star.
Sarah D: I think the last name on the obit is “Wrentham,” or something similar.
I am hoping against hope that the future we glimpsed can be changed. Jack has always been my absolute favorite character, so to see him so broken was painful. I want to believe that this was just one of an infinite number of potential outcomes for their post-island life. (Also, I want Jack and Kate together. Sorry, GG!)
OK, off to read your previous entry.

The funeral parlor “Hoffs/Drawlar” is an anagram for “forward flash”. Did anyone else get that, or did I actually pick up on a clue? (not that it matters now!)
Awesome write-ups by the way.
Also, when Jack is drunk in hospital, he references going to get his father to see who is more drunk. WTF? Is his dad REALLY dead or did the island bring him back?
May 29th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
ok ok … next time i’ll actually READ all the comments first B4 posting…SORRY!
June 1st, 2007 at 7:44 am
yall add me on myspace!! ^ ^ lol……but ermm yess ‘hoffs/drawlar’ = flash forward, i was thinking that it was a link to Charlie’s past..the ‘programmed by a musician’ maybe someone from his family (only a silly theory but was just a TINY theory of mine) ALSO the man who was found dead, the funeral guy?
HEREEEEEEEEEEES THE FULL FULL FULL TRANSCRIPTION!
The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim’s loft. Concerned for tenants’ safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening. (thanks to the tailsection)
hmmm…. who the hell is john lantham (or latham) ? who is his son? why did he kill himself? what’s his connection to Jack?
could he have been murdered? what did he do for kate to hate him that much? 9 months, people, 9 f***ing long months…

Revisiting the idea that the Island is a place that allows a chance for redemption for the characters, what if, once redemption is achieved, and the island’s purpose is fulfilled, the characters are allowed a “do-over” in life with the memory of the lessons learned fully intact. What if, even after they die on the island, they are returned to the point where the events that led them to finally get on Oceanic flight 815 began.Look at Desmond. Every attempt to save Charlie’s life is a do-over. It’s just that his matrix of revised memories are a bit faulty. Maybe Charlie and the rest aren’t dead. Maybe they’ve gotten their enlightenment and can go back to work out the existential kinks in their previous lives. How they do that depends on their strength of character. Jack may have squandered the gift that the island gave him. Maybe he was too stubborn to get the message and followed the exact same path to get back there - only this time, the surviving passengers of 815 were rescued in short order.
June 7th, 2007 at 10:48 am
Hey that’s a pretty interesting theory that I haven’t even heard yet. I have to stay that I don’t really think that it’s what is actually happenning, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the theory!
June 7th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Has anyone postulated the idea of “parallel universes”? This would explain the bodies of everyone discovered on flight 815…it could also tie into Parges idea…without stictly allowing for a “good/evil” thing…I like the possible science integration with this idea. It’s more believable for me than some inherent implied spiritual connotation regarding “strength of character” and “getting the message”.

I don’t think that Sawyer is the dead man. Firstly I think that no matter what Sawyer “does” to Kate she would still be upset to hear he’s dead, not offended as she seems.
Also, this show has been about redemption from the very begining. They have shown us Saywers past and the reason’s he is the way he is, and they have also shown him paying for his actions. I don’t think they would go through all that to have him die hated and alone.
I think the dead man is either Ben or Locke…I’m leaning towards Ben. Jack want’s to go back so he is upset that Ben is dead becuase he may be the only one that can take them back to the island, Kate would obviously be mad cuz Ben’s a big crazy.
August 12th, 2007 at 11:41 pm
Maybe it is Locke and he changes his name? Helen had a kid we don’t know about? I think Locke could def. do something that Kate would never forgive him for. It’d be weird if Jack suddenly started caring for him though.

Number 14 really gave me answers. I hadn’t thought of that. I was just so damn upset that Charlie was gone. I love your insights.
As for your final conclusion about Jack. I’m convinced this flash forward future is not set in stone. But yes, something really bad must happen because of how distraught Jack is.
