5 X 04: The Little Prince
Who is The Little Prince in the show? On first glance I thought it was Aaron. But then I went and read the book online and I’m thinking now that it’s Locke. You have a young boy who leaves his star and goes on an adventure to 6 different stars, including landing on Earth. While there, he discovers that even though it’s small, he wants to go back to his star, B-612, but the only way to get home is to be “killed” by the snake. But, he doesn’t really die, just has to leave behind the empty shell that is his body. You can read the story here.

1. Is it right that Kate keeps Aaron? If Kate knows that Claire was flying to LA to give him up for adoption then I’m sure Claire told her other personal things like about her mother. Sure, Kate probably thought mom was in a coma until they met at the funeral home, but was she OK just to keep him without a word to anyone? I understand that she probably has an emotional connection to him relating to the island and the loss of Sawyer, but I’m not convinced that Kate did the right thing by lying about being his mother. She doesn’t even know if Claire is alive so maybe her redemption should come by going back to the island to give him back to Claire.

2. Sun says, “Don’t worry about us Kate. There’s candy and a mini-bar and 100 channels on TV.” Geesh, what’s she going to get him from the mini-bar?
3. Sun’s report on Ben doesn’t seem to say too much. Looks like he went to the mailbox a lot.

4. A couple of thoughts on Sawyer. I’m loving all the screen time so far this season. I also really like the way a calm Juliet plays against the irritated Sawyer. And he listens to her! She tells him to go away and he does. He must trust her because later her tells her about seeing Kate.

5. If you recall, originally Jack was going to be killed by the smoke monster and Kate was going to become the leader of the Losties. However, it seems like her character development has been to a whiney, whimpy woman. What happened to the outlaw, tough chick from season one who could use a sewing kit to close Jack’s wound? The Kate that robbed banks and killed her step-father for being a jerk? Now she believes things at face value and is always on the edge of a good cry. Geesh, let the chick have her cry and bring back the Kate from season one! Can you imagine if this lawyer would have come to her back then? Tough checks aren’t scared of attorneys!
Post Island Makeover. Not a fan.
6. Are they purposely making her eyes look this scary? Wow!

7. I don’t remember Locke’s light being that bright from the hatch. And why wouldn’t the Losties, any of them, noticed this beam?

8. I’ve discussed my thoughts on Sawyer seeing Kate and Claire in my initial thoughts, but I wanted another excuse to post a screencap of him…
OK, OK, the look on his face is very touching as well.

9. This water *has* to be from after the O6 come back to the island. But it does beg the question “where are they?” Where are the Losites and the O6? Guess we’ll eventually see!

10. I couldn’t get a good shot of the boat that chases the Losties but I’m sure when they shot and edited the episode that is what they intended. Our choices of who they are: O6, Other Others, Richard & the Others, Rose and Bernard?

11. This was not my catch but apparently “Canton-Rainier” is an anagram for “reincarnation.” Ironic considering Locke’s dead body is in that van.

12. Apparently, this box reads “612″ like the Little Prince’s star!

13. I think we know why Danielle didn’t get *the sickness.* She is hanging on to her music box here. If you recall, it was very important to her and Sayid fixed it in Season One while she held him captive.

14. Wow is Jin in for a big shock when he starts time jumping! First he meets young Danielle, then she just disappears in front of his eyes.
15. Is Ji Yeon going to be allowed to return to the island? She’s not considered one of the O6 so will the *island* allow her?

Hey GG! On 5. I agree, Kate’s a tough woman and I wish they’d let her get backt to being one. She’s also the type that just looks better without makeup. I thought the same in other episodes where we saw her in makeup. Those freckles of hers are just too cute to cover up.

Hey, I can’t remember… What was the last thing we saw from Juliet’s sister? Could she have any impact on the rest of this show?

2. I think Sun actuall says “Don’t worry about us Kate. There’s candy IN the mini-bar and 100 channels on TV”
Loved this episode, much better than last weeks’, I’d got myself all built up last week, and it let me down!

Here’s a guess. I have a feeling that Horace is Annie’s father (Ben’s childhood girlfriend). Remember how tenderly Ben closed Horace’s eyes when he found him dead on the bench after the purge. Out of all the DHARMA people, including his own father, Ben only showed feelings towards Horace.
Another thing I noticed. When Ben is talking to Locke at the hole where all the DHARMA people are buried, Ben says to Locke, “I am ONE of the people who made sure THEY didn’t end up in that hole.” That kind of implies that there were other DHARMA people that sided with Ben and the Others. I’m thinking some of the children who grew up with Ben on the island and maybe including Annie. I’d guess that Annie is the mysterious person the Others say that Juliet looks like.

candy IN the minibar, not AND a minibar!

Well, Christain had a drinking problem and Jack had problems with drinking and drugs after he came back from the island. Aaron is Christian’s grandchild, maybe Sun is just thinking ahead and there’s some rum filled chocolates in the minibar.

I wonder if we’re gonna get some smoke monster answers tonight. It’s been a while, and they’re gonna have to explain that thing eventually. It provided one of (if not THE) first mysteries on Lost, and it still has not been answered.

Why didn’t Danielle get “the sickness” and what does it have to do with her music box?
February 11th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
When Locke was watching Yemi’s plane crash there was a lotof black smoke. The smoke monster?
February 11th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
And same question about Danielle that Rachael posted. I don’t think I know this.
February 11th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I think GG means that the music box is Danielle’s constant. Like Dan said to Desmond, it has to be something that’s very important to you. But another reason Danielle may not have gotten sick is because she was pregnant.
February 13th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
I don’t think Danielle needs a contant. During the time she was on the island, she wasn’t time travelling – that started after she was already dead. Is there something else it could be?
February 14th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I just want to know something that no one has addressed. In the future on the island, did Danielle recognize Jin, (since she saw him in her past on the island)? It seems, she should have remembered him? And acknowledged it somehow?

Susan, Danielle never met Jin, he was already on the raft with Michael when she first came to camp.

Hm. More on “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who was, as it turns out a French aviator…
The paragraphs preceded by an asterisk are cut/paste from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Prince
Any comments afterward are my ravings.
* In The Little Prince, Saint-Exupéry talks about being marooned in the desert in a damaged aircraft.
* In 1997, Jean-Pierre Davidts wrote what could be considered a sequel to The Little Prince, entitled “The Little Prince Returns”. In this version, the narrator is a shipwrecked man who encounters the Little Prince on a lone island.
* The Little Prince makes several profound and idealistic points about life and human nature. Saint-Exupéry tells of meeting a young prince in the middle of the Sahara. The essence of the book is contained in the famous lines uttered by the fox to the Little Prince: “You can see clearly only with your heart. What is truly important is invisible to the eyes”. Other key thematic messages are articulated by the fox, such as: “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed” and “It is the time you have spent with your rose that makes your rose so important.”
The enigmatic messages sure jive with what we are experiencing with LOST and the mythos of the Others and the seemingly living island and it’s mysteries.
* The narrator’s point of view is interleaved in the first nine chapters and changes from third person to first person.
Kind of timey travely, donchathink?
Okay, so perhaps a stretch, but telling a tale jumping from different reference points is very LOST-esque.
* The home asteroid or “planet” of the Little Prince is introduced. His asteroid (planet) is house-sized and named, B612. The naming of the asteroid B612 is an important concept in the book that illustrates the fact that adults will only believe a scientist who is dressed or acts the same way as they do. According to the book, the asteroid was sighted by a Turkish astronomer in 1909 who had then made a formal demonstration of asteroid B-612 to the International Astronomical Congress. “No one had believed him on the count of the way he was dressed.” Then, he and his people dressed like Europeans and went again to present asteroid B-612 to the International Astronomical Congress and they fully believed him and this time credited him with the work.
Hm. Dr. Candle dressed very specifically as a scientist and acted in a very specific “scientific” manner and all the training videos were shot in a very formulaic way. To make everyone believe…
What does it all mean? Hell if I know…
