I've started watching Season 1 again. I'm trying to figure out what happened to Locke. In Season 1, Locke seemed to be the Dr. Phil of the Losties. He was always cool and collected and seemed to know so much about the island and everyone's issues. Think about it, he helped Charlie get over his drugs, Jack when he saw his dad and was worried about everyone looking to him as a leader, Boone and Shannon with their issues, Sun's problems, and I could just keep going on with this list. But then suddenly in Season 2, he began to lose it. Somewhere there when he jumped on Charlie and beat him to a pulp on the beach. Right after that, Ben showed up who really messed with Locke's mind. But anyhow, back to backgammon and the being alone. They mention that so much in the show telling each other that they're not alone in this and don't try to be. The whole, "Live together, die alone," thing. Seeing how Season 5 ended, I'm now wondering it there was more to that.

Hollywood: You know, another thing about backgammon, your pieces are safe from your opponent as long as you keep them stacked 2 or more in a group. It's when they're alone that they are vulnerable.

Exactly GaryG! and in backgammon sometimes your pieces are out for good as you count them out on your side and sometimes they get "captured" and you have to free them so you can continue playing the game.

Hollywood: Remember way back in Season 1 when Locke is teaching Walt how to play bacgammon (sp?)? He tells him one side is light and the other dark? That was like the set up for this entire show. Jacob and the MIB are the players and everyone else are the pieces.

sandstorm: You know, I've been thinking that the man in black is smokey as well, at least until recently. It's just too obvious and this show has always been a pro at dealing out a good con.

Here's some examples. Ben was never summoned to speak with Jacob, he didn't know where Jacob lived. Richard was the one who passed Jacob's orders on to Ben. Way back when when Locke first joined up with the others and forced Ben to take him to see Jacob, he announced it in front of the entire Other camp that he and Ben were going to see Jacob. Richard knew that Ben didn't know where Jacob lived, but he didn't say anything. I don't know, maybe Richard thought that Jacob had somehow communicated with Locke.

Anyhow, Ben takes Locke to that cabin that Horace built telling Locke it was Jacob's cabin. We see Locke check out that ash circle around the cabin, then he follows Ben into the cabin and Ben does his act for Locke. But something happens that I don't even think Ben was ready for. I take it that was the man in black pulling all those tricks and then saying, "Help me." to Locke. Ben finds out that he heard something and he thinks Locke heard Jacob. Ben is pissed because Jacob has never once in all the years he has lived on the island never once talked with Ben. So Ben shoots Locke and leaves him for dead in the DHARMA body pit. Then Walt shows up to tell Locke he has work to do and saves him. Is it Walt? Is it an illusion sent by the man in black or is it Jacob in disguise? Or is it Walt from the future?

So like I said, the big con here has been Jacob's cabin that has never really been Jacob's cabin. With that ash circle around it, it seems to have been some sort of spiritual prison - I assume for the man in black. How long has he been imprisioned there. Couldn't have been too long, Horace was building the cabin it appears right as the Purge happened, which if I remember correctly was 12 years before the O6 leave the island. Which would be around 1992. Poor Calvin must have just got to the island and then ended up stuck in the Swan station with Radzinsky for all those years until Desmond shows up. So isn't that a bit interesting that the Purge and the circle around Jacob's cabin may have happened at the same time?

For us, the only people we've seen in that cabin has been Christian and then Claire. Isn't that weird?

The last thing Jacob said before he died was, "They're coming." The man in balck seemed a bit upset about that. Does he mean that the Losties stuck in the 1970's are coming forward in time?

What about Walt? We know he has special powers and they were being enhanced while he was on the island. Remember way way back in Season 1 before the hatch is opened? Walt touches Locke for a second and sees something that scares him. He tells Locke not to open it - don't open that thing. Before that, he wanted to stay on the island, but after that, he wants to leave. So will Walt come back to the island?

Then there's Aaron. That psychic guy who we really don't know if he's real or fake because they threw that show with hime and Mr. Ecko in there. But he tells Claire that there's grave danger if her baby is raised by anyone else but Claire. There were things that happened with Aaron, like when Charlie died, suddenly Aaron started crying right at that moment as if he knew. So anyhow, Claire is now hanging out in the Cabin and first Kate and then Claire's mother is looking out after Aaron. So now, what will happen with Aaron, is he going to grow up to be some sort of demon or something? Is Claire dead, or is she being held captive in that cabin? Was that really Claire who came to tell Kate not to bring Aaron back to the island or was it the man in black (MIB) ensuring that Aaron wouldn't be raised by Claire?

So I'm wondering about next season. Maybe it'll pick up some years later after Ben killed Jacob. It might deal with a conflict between Walt and Aaron.

But here's the thing, even if after they set off that H-bomb, it changes history and they all end up back on flight 815, it's still going to fly its course and end up over the island. Jacob has shown an interest in at least some of them, so maybe even if the plane doesn't crash, they still may flash and end up on the island.

Well, my head is hurting. LOL! Nine whole months to find out what's going to happen. Man I wish I knew where I could find one of those donkey wheels to speed things up some.

sandstorm, i love your explanation...concise and makes sense in a Lost kind of way...lol
I was thinking that maybe if we thought about Jacob in the same way as "grooming" the losties he visited ...helping them in times of need, putting subliminal ideas into them but always allowing the free will that maybe it is like one giant game to them and the people are just the players.

I think I may have figured something out...

The man in black is Smokey. And he has the power to enter into the bodies of dead people on the island (for example, Locke and Christian).

He is in some kind of war with Jacob. But there are certian rules, one being that the man in black cannot kill Jacob himself.

So the man in black hatches a plan. He 'grooms' Locke during his time on the island (Locke had more encounters with Smokey than anyone else).

During the time jumping, things got screwed somehow. I will explain my thoughts on that another time. But the man in black (in Locke's body) told Richard to tell old Locke that he had to die in order to save the island, the man in black knowing that Locke would do whatever it took to save the island.

If you remember, Locke told Ben what Richard had said and Ben then killed Locke. I think this was Ben thinking he was doing the right thing at the time (killing Locke in order to save the island).

Smokey then encounters Ben, who came to be judged. Smokey tells Ben to do whatever Locke says. So when Locke tells Ben he is going to kill Jacob, Ben would agree to it for fear of Smokey. And Ben ends up killing Jacob, thus the man in black finds his loop-hole.

I hope that makes sense. Let me know your thoughts.

When they show Jacob under the foot when Ben and the imposter Locke show up to see him, they show that tapestry he was making. According to the abc recap it has both Egyptian and Greek symbols on it. I'm hoping to find a good picture of it and maybe I can translate them the way I did the final symbols that show up on the hatch's timer way back when.

when i looked up the statue....this is what i got....Taweret (Taueret, Taurt, Toeris, Ipy, Ipet, Apet, Opet, Reret) - The Great Female - was the ancient Egyptian goddess of maternity and childbirth, protector of women and children. Like Bes, she was both a fierce demonic fighter as well as a popular deity who guarded the mother and her newborn child.

maybe somehow (the bomb? or earth shaking) made the statue fall and thus stop protecting the pregnant women on the island so in fact Julia (indirectly) was the very cause of the pregnant women dying on the island and why she had come to the island to begin with.

Wasn't the cabin in the wood's Horus'? i thought he was the one who built it for his family.
