I think that Jin was unhappy with his life and with Sun's father controlling everything. I think maybe he wanted to convince Sun to never return home and for them to build a life together where her father could not find them. If it was not that, then I think Sun's father was making him do something in America other than what Sun thought they were doing. That wouldn't be too far fetched if you think of the Greek cities they've discovered underwater in the Med. If the island did sink in 1977, it would mean the others all died along with the Dharma guys. It'd mean no Ben, Hawkin, Widmore and Penny. I've been thinking back about Hurley when he was talking to his imaginary friend Dave and how they showed that clip of Dave hanging out at Mr. Clucks. So was Dave actually a real person? Hurley was at the institution because he walked out onto some dock and it sank killing a bunch of people. Hurley felt guilty about it. Dave - one of the people who died on the dock? Could Hurley have been talking to dead people way back then? Dave may not be that nice of a guy - first trying to keep Hurley eating and then trying to get him to jump off a cliff. Last season, when they introduced Jack's grandfather, I think they were kind of hinting there that Jacob is Jack's great grandfather - Jacob is the great great grandfather of Aaron in the bible. Remember way back when Jack is explaining why he's a doctor, "family business?" Maybe so, he comes from a line of healers including Jacob. Jack did heal his wife when her back wasn't just broken, it was crushed. Jack may in the end be the new Jacob, he just needs to believe in himself. Remember how grim he was when telling his wife how she'd never walk again, then his father told him to give some hope - then Jack just let go of himself during the operation and healed her. Part of me begins to wonder if Smokey isn't actually the man in black. I'm starting to think that Smokey is a force that can be controlled by not only the man in black but also Jacob. One thing is certain, the Losties who made it to the temple all seem to have been hand selected by Jacob for some reason or other. They are all not just a major part of his plan, but I think THE major part of his plan. I wonder, if Jack is to be the new Jacob, we saw what a good leader Sawyer could be when he was in Dharma - will he become the leader of the Others?
