Initial Thoughts: Across The Sea

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Hi everyone.  I’m going to try and be objective but wow was I disappointed tonight.  The writing and acting just wasn’t doing it for me tonight.  I was so looking forward to this week and with one epi left after tonight I expected to have my socks knocked off.  One of the reasons I think so many of us love Lost is that they don’t dumb things down for us and tonight I felt like they did.

1.  I found the reflection of the “new mother” in the water interesting.

2.  Are we to believe that the “new mother” was chosen to protect the island and that there were people here before her?  Did she get the “sickness” and kill them all like Danielle?

3.  The “new mother” seemed OK with the babies until MIB was born.  And cute that they are in black and white blankets from the start.  Then MIB won’t stop crying and “BAM” she beats her on the head.  OK, was that necessary?  I think MIB is right when he says his mother was nuts.  She didn’t have to kill Claudia.  They could have lived all together.

4.  The new mother is so playing favorites with MIB.  Leaving him that game.  And how interesting that he “just knows” how to play.

5.  Little Jacob is the bloody kid running around the island mocking Flocke.  It’s the same kid.  But what the heck is that all about?  His guilty conscience is chasing him but if so then why can other people see him?

6.  Locke was told all his life that he was “special” and now we see that MIB was told he was “special” too.  Not sure what that means unless they are truly the ones who protect the island.  Maybe MIB can’t leave because in some ’special’ way it is him and not Jacob that holds the light there.

7. How can the boys grow 30 years into men and then stop aging? ”

8.  Jacob and MIB watching the others kill the boar reminded me of Jin and Eko when they saw the Others walking through the jungle.

9.  What makes all men dangerous according to the New Mom?  The same thing that they said before, “They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt and it always ends the same.”

10.  OK people, was I the only one who groaned when the found the cave with the light?  REALLY!  This is it?  I liked the red flowers there though.  What is this light?  Is it the light one sees when the die or the birth canal as they are born?  Why is THIS the light of the world?  Why can’t they both protect the light?

11.  I thought Jacob’s purpose was to keep MIB on the island? It sure doesn’t look like he’s looking for someone to guard the light?

12.  What was the purpose of Claudia coming back and leading MIB to the others?  Why can’t Jacob see dead people?  Oh lordy, there are so many more questions than answers this week.

13.  I did think it was pretty cool that they are living in the cave, the same cave MIB led Jack to so that they would have water.

14.  I don’t even know what to believe that New Mother says since she’s obviously nuts.  She just goes around beating people in the head to get her way.  Maybe they can leave the island.

15.  I want to think on this but there seems to be something to the fact that New Mother thought she had to raise the boys.  Should Claire be the one to raise Aaron?  Raised by another?

16.  We didn’t get any answers about that knife and why it can kill MIB or Jacob. Or what the sickness is.  And why did New Mother thank MIB for killing her?  Was she just tired?  The same reason, perhaps, that Jacob let Ben kill him?

17.  We did get to see the origin of the donkey wheel.

18.  MIB has to be the one that is special.  Otherwise why was New Mother so set on keeping him there?  Seems like she kept Jacob around more for company and to spy on MIB rather than to truly take over as guardian.  That really didn’t work out so well and Jacob ended up with the job anyway.

19.  The light seems to be what was under the pool in the temple.  They resurrected Sayid in the light as they did with MIB and what they had was much worse than death.

20.  What’s up with the drinky poo to make Jacob responsible for the island?  And her line sounded remarkably similar to what Sayid said to Jack last week about it being them.  Being them for what – to take over the island.  But the drinking of the wine seemed a pretty cheesy story device.

21.  And I can see why MIB is so angry.  New Mother killed his birth mom, killed his people, buried the well that they worked so hard on and took away his dream just to leave the island.  She was nuts and he was angry for a very good reason.

22.  There’s a storm coming all right.  New Mother knows that MIB is there waiting but since she’s passed the torch, literally, to Jacob she can now die in peace.

23.  Jacob made MIB what he is today.  Whatever is down in that cave is what is left of his brother and his spirit is still po’d and wants to just leave the island.  It’s like taking over Locke but he didn’t really take the body over, just the image.  It’s like they are a shell of what they once were filled with some strange spirit from down in the light cave.  But I still think that even though we found who our Adam and Eve skeletons belonged to, we still have MIB wandering around the island in some form.

24.  I need to take a day and watch this one again.  My initial reaction was of disappointment but maybe thinking it over will bring me to more insight.  It just seemed tonight that the way the story was presented to us was weak and I was expecting more to this.  Yes, there were some answers and I don’t judge an episode on whether we got answers because I love that this show doesn’t always give them.  But what we do get is amazing story telling and tonight just was a weak episode.

6 X 14: The Candidate

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Could new time line Locke be The Candidate?  Once he starts realizing what his old time line self is up to I think that we’ll finally get to see Locke get his redemption by stopping Flocke.  Not only is the the emotionally troubled guy we knew before, now we know he also has his dad’s accident on his conscious.  The obvious choice is Jack to be The Candidate but I can definitely see Locke filling that role.  Wouldn’t it be a terrible twist of fate if something happens and Jack ends up being the new MIB?

1.  Instead of the typical eye opening we get to see the POV of the eye.  And, to make it even more interesting, it’s blurry.

2.  I like that Jack tells him “welcome back”  We’ve seen in Sayid that they all do have good and evil in them and is capable of turning to their good side.  Locke can bring himself back around on the island after all, the body still belongs to him and if MIB is trapped in there maybe he can kill him in it somehow.

3.  In another twist of fate, Jack saves Locke in the new time line and in the old time line Flocke saves Jack by dragging him away from the bombs.

4.  Widmore says on his list are the “Kwans,” that’s plural Kwans.  Maybe he doesn’t know which one so he put them both on there.  And what is his list for?  Does Widmore also want to take over the island and needs the Losties to be gone in order to make that happen? It sure didn’t appear that he was trying to protect them by locking them all in a cage for Smokey to come and take in one fail swoop. A better idea would have been to separate them.  Make old smokey try and round them up himself.

5.  Seriously, where were the fish biscuits?

6.  Widmore even asks when the fence will be live.  Hm, maybe he was using the Losties as bait for Smokey?

7.  So far Desmond has been helping the Losties to “see” the alternative time line.  But not with Jack.  Is he really playing the same role as Jacob in that the wants Jack to see it himself?  Like Jacob said, some people just have to find it for themselves.

8.  Bernard says he remembers Locke’s accident from three years ago like “duh of course I do!”  Dual meaning?  He remembers the accident or he remembers the alt time line?  Of course he does!

9.  If this is Anthony Cooper now then how will Sawyer deliver his letter in the new time line?  How will he get any closure when he finds him like this?

10.  Relection, dual reflection.  Starting to come together?

11.  Where is Widmore when they leave the cages and then try to hijack his sub?  I think he’s watching from the same monitors that Ben watched the Losites.  We know that there are cameras all around there and he has to know what’s been going on.  Somewhere out there Richard, Ben and Miles are lurking too.

12.  I wanted Sawyer not to just believe Jack out of faith but also because Sawyer had once before been duped into believing he was at death’s door.  Remember that Ben had Sawyer convinced that there was a pacemaker implanted in his chest and if his BP went over a certain number he would die?  That was a hoax too.  For such a good con man he sure can’t see through lies very well.  Not that the bomb is a lie but that sometimes he needs to think through the logic of a situation.

13.  If Locke can’t kill them then he is going to have to use Claire to kill them.  Out of those still alive she’s the only one who isn’t in their group, so to speak.  She now thinks they left her behind twice so I’m sure she is going to be upset plus she’s one heck of a good shot!

14.  “Because it’s going to be you, Jack!”  And so the last words of Sayid were uttered.  *sigh*

15.  Now that Sayid has paid his pennance can he be together with Nadia?  This guy deserves a happy ending.

16.  Bye Bye Frank.  Another pointless death if you ask me.  Why did they drag this character around with them for all the episodes if all they were going to do is have him get run over by the sub door and drown.  Makes me kind of sad as he seemed very underused and I figured he would get his moment to shine when they flew off the island.  But, it’s kind of cool I guess that now the obvious answer to how they are going to fly the plane is gone.

17.  Blast from the past… another one.  Jack giving Hurley instructions and telling him that “you can do this, OK?”  Just like when he had told Hurley how to get Claire out of the wreckage of the plane in the series opener.

18.  Farewell Jin and Sun.  A friend of mine at work put it best.  It’s like losing friends, not a just a TV show.  But I’ve read that their death will have meaning which makes me happy because as much as I was tired of their story line I didn’t want to see them die (nothing like the annoying Ken and Barbie characters!)

19.  My eyes were too blurry with tears to notice in the very next scene Jin walks past Locke in the hospital headed to Sun’s room.  I would like to think that this was the writer’s way of reminding us that these characters aren’t “really” dead in the traditional, real-world sense.  They’re still hanging around out there.

20.  Now that Sawyer had a good clobber on the head will his island self start “seeing” his off island self?  Now he may start seeing what Juliet meant when she said “it worked.”  I can’t wait for that reunion.

What Lies Ahead

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

OK, my self imposed blackout is over.  I know, it didn’t take long but I LOVE this show and it’s like trying to quit smoking or something.  But good intentions will never get you anywhere.  Except to articles about Lost.  And that’s not so bad.

BUT, I found this little tidbit about next week.  It’s a teaser to me, may be a spoiler to you.  Highlight below to read.  Click here to read the whole article.

Next Week Is Unlike Anything You’ve Seen on Lost Before. Swear. And though we’ve all been told that none of the series regulars appear, that is actually not true. Spoiler Alert: You will see three of the main leads in a very surprising throwback moment that lets you know that the producers totally knew what they were doing as of season one. (Boo-ya!) Allison Janney guest stars, along with two other actors you know, and a few others you don’t. You’ll learn much much more about the history of the island and the evil, and light, within. Pay close attention to every line Allison’s character says and every line (or lack thereof) on her face. Oh, and DVR it. ‘Cause you’ll need to watch it twice.

Series Finale – Extended to 2 1/2 hours!

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

ABC will be airing an extra 1/2 hour of the finale because there was just too much too tell, according to Damon Lindelof.  AND they will be airing a two hour recap epi before hand too!  * APPLAUSE!*

No New Promos!

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

I absolutely LOVE this idea.  I think I may even go on a blackout until after I was the end.  Maybe.  I’m not known for my willpower :)

Lost maintains the dread and suspense on tonight’s episode
Read the entire story here

Lost will no longer be showing promos for the following week’s episode, for example. That’s why details of new episodes will be bare-bones from now on.

As Cuse explained: “Our feeling is that most people do not really want to see a bunch of scenes from upcoming episodes, that the joy of Lost is approaching it cold, with the mysteries of the show washing over you.”

Lost is all about maintaining dread and suspense.

Initial Thoughts: The Candidate

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I admit, I’m a cry baby.  I balled-my-eyes-out when Jin and Sun went down together.  And here I thought I was tired of their story line.  But, I also think that they died for no real purpose in the show.  Charlie died trying to save them all, he was a hero.  AND, essentially Sawyer killed them!  Had he left the bomb alone they would have all lived.

1.  I just want to talk about Sayid first.  We knew that he still had humanity in him.  But four major deaths in one night is horrifying (have to count Frank in there).  We knew it was coming but wow, that was tough!

2.  Did anyone else have a commercial pop in for a couple of seconds at the beginning?  I yelled so loud my daughter and the cats jumped!  But alas it came back.  I can leave my pitchfork for the next time they interrupt my show.

3.  I didn’t see that the new time line moved our story along much.  We see that Jack and Locke aren’t so different than in the original time line.  Jack is trying to fix everything and Locke is still beating himself up.  He wants to stay in that wheelchair to punish himself for what he thinks put his dad in a vegetative state.

4.  Why is Kate not a candidate?  Does it have to do with her life choices in both timelines?  Will we ever know for sure or will we continue to guess?  Her life is pretty similar in both where as the other’s personalities are the same but their choices have taken them on a different path, one that is almost opposite of the original time line.

5.  I thought Jack was going back to hang out with David after the surgery?  Instead he’s gallivanting all around the town trying to figure out why Locke doesn’t want fixed.  Seems like old Jack to me!

6.  Bernard and Rose must be married in the new time line since they have the same last name.  But Bernard knows Locke and about how he became paralyzed.  Rose knows Locke because she found him the substitute job.  Coincidence?  Maybe they know something and are helping Locke along his path in the new time line?  Any why does Bernard remember Anthony Cooper’s name so easily?

7.  I love how half of Flocke’s face is all blacked out with a shadow when he’s telling Jack to trust him.  Creepy!

8.  I SO wanted Sawyer to get a fish biscuit, just for old times sake!

9.  Since Jin and Sun died, does that mean that Ji Yeon is going to be raised by another?  Why leave her an orphan?  Ah, I hate that they killed them!

10.  Is it just me or did the Losties not seem as frightened as they should be when Smokey came calling?  Frank looks more curious than scared.  Kate could “almost” reach those keys to escape.  Maybe, like the other escapes we’ve seen, they had to really want to escape and Jack should not have let them out.  They had to want it and find a way themselves.

11.  Smokey tricked them into going to the sub.  He took the dynamite off of the plane because he knew Jack would get on there with them.  So he took the dynamite, switched packs with Jack, let Widmore’s people round up the Losties by shooting at them and then knew Jack would climb aboard to help Kate.  Viola!  They were conned by the ultimate con man into getting on that sub.

12.  Let’s not forget that Sawyer is still looking for the original Anthony Cooper.  So although the guy is in a wheelchair drooling over breakfast, somewhere in the past he was not such a good guy.

13.  Flocke says that Widmore killed the fences but did he?  I thought Sayid killed the power so that the fences would go down and Smokey could get in.  But, IF Widmore allowed Smokey free access to the Losties, why would he do that?  Kill the Losties then use Desmond to take care of Smokey?

14.  Locke is starting to cross over.  He says to “push the button,” “I wish you had believed me.”

15.  Of course Claire is at the hospital.  They all will end up there somehow.  Jack gets an Apollo bar and Claire’s music box plays her favorite song for Aaron “Catch A Falling Star.”  Supposed to trigger memories of the island?  What else does he have for her?  The box reminded me of Danielle’s box that Sayid fixed for her.

16.  Nice reflection of Jack and Claire.

17.  Jack invites Claire to stay with him.  Guess she’s not left behind in the new time line.

18.  I love that Hurley never carries a gun.

19.  If the sub is so heavily protected then how do the Losties get down in there so easily?  Why wouldn’t they be shooting long before they did?  Did Widmore really think that Locke would get in that sub with them and leave?  And with everyone standing there, why did KATE get shot unless those aren’t Widmore’s people shooting at them at all.  Those could be more of Flocke’s people.  Jack was standing out in the open and only Kate gets shot?  Flocke KNEW Jack would climb down there to help Kate.  Then Flocke starts to run towards the sub knowing that Sawyer would close it so as not to let him in (not realizing Flocke wouldn’t get in the sub at all) and thus trapping Jack.

20.  Jack is right.  The “rules” have been mentioned before by Ben and Widmore.  Flocke has to let them kill each other.  And now Saywer has three deaths on his head.  But at least Sayid got a heroic death.

21.  “It’s going to be you Jack.”  Sayid just told us that Jack is The Candidate.  He answered the question – Des is not dead.  And told Jack he’s going to need Des to do whatever the candidate is going to do.

22.  Then a scene straight out of Season One with Jack saving lives once again in a major crisis.

23.  Well, I guess the island was done with Jin, Sun and Sayid.

24.  Was Frank killed on the sub?  Looks like the water comes flooding in and knocks him to the floor.  I think Jack was trying to grab him but he pulls up Kate.  No one tries to save the pilot?

25.  As guilty as Locke feels about his father once he gets a load of what he’s doing back on the island he’s going to be the hero and he will stop Flocke.   Locke will come back around to Jack.  Especially when Jack uses Locke’s line “I wish you’d believe me.”

26.  Then there was the beach scene.  Jorge Garcia said that there were some rough scenes coming.  Holy cow!  Everyone was crying, including me!

27.  Flocke is standing there waiting to be released from the island when the sub sinks.  He knows they aren’t dead because he can’t leave!

28.  Next week is all MIB and Jacob then only one epi left!  Richard, Miles and Ben have to come back into play but they can’t fly the plane now so who cares if they blow it up?

Sneak Peek #2 – The Candidate

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

This answers one question regarding the fate of Locke in surgery.  Watch at your own risk!

List of Cast Appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Finale Special

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I’m super excited about the appearances but also surprised at some who won’t be there (esp Kate and Desmond).

No New Lost Tonight

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

*sniffle*

Looks like they’re trying to space out the epi’s so they can end on May 23rd (notice, Jack’s number?).  Still, ABC could have splurged for one more episode considering a normal season is 24 and we are already short of that.

Anyway.  My friend Joe gave me this link.  Some may consider it a spoiler, I think it’s more of a tease.  But don’t link and read if you don’t want to know ANYTHING about what is to come!

6 X 13: The Last Recruit

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Who is the Last Recruit?  Who is the only person who hasn’t spoken to Flocke that can still kill him?  Will it be Locke himself who takes down MIB in a sweet ironic twist for a guy who has been labeled a “sucker” by the man who stole his body?  Let’s not forget that Locke was special enough to be recruited by the Dharma Initiative before the ill fated 815 crash.  Richard visited him when he was a young boy and his science teacher tried to steer him towards Dharma as a teen.  Locke was chosen for a reason and I think in an ironic twist he may be the Last Recruit that can take down the MIB.

1.  Desmond had to hit Locke in the FS (Flash Sideways) for two reasons.  One is to get him to the hospital as it seems that is where all of our Losties are going to converge and because Locke and Jack must meet.  The other is that Locke needs a near death experience to “open” his mind to the original time that is happening on the island.

2.  I loved that Jack went up to Hurley and asked if it was OK that he talked to Flocke alone.  Four seasons ago this would have made Jack laugh if Hurley tried to tell him what to do.

3.  Jack asks Flocke why he chose to take Locke’s body.  Truthfully he could have taken other bodies so why did he chose Locke?  I’m wondering if Jacob somehow “tricked” Flocke into choosing Locke’s body.  Maybe Jacob did instruct them back home to kill Locke and bring back his body so that MIB could take over.  Perhaps Jacob knows that Locke “is” the only one that can stop MIB and that he needed to be in that body for whatever reason is to come that leads Locke to his true destiny which is to stop MIB.  Ilana did say that MIB is now “trapped” inside of this form.

4.  Was it MIB in Christian?  Some question that if he was in Christian’s body then how did he get across the ocean to talk to Jack back home?  He told us that he couldn’t do that (even to get to Hydra).   Why would Christian tell Locke “say hello to my son” if it was the MIB?  Where is the sense in that?  On the other hand, it was Christian that led Claire away from the Losties and her baby and was chatting her up in the cabin.  Which side are you on?

5.  I think that Jack is right that Flocke wants them all to leave.  They must all be together.  He wants them out of there so he can do whatever evil he is up to.  I’m hoping we will see in epi 15 why he wants to rule the island so badly.

6.  Convenient way to get Ben to the hospital. Would they really let a near stranger ride with him?  Well of course!  TPTB need them all to congregate in one place for whatever event is coming in the FS.

7.  They must have been short on ideas for dialog this week.  Flocke tells Jack that they have some “catching up to do” and he also tells Claire that she and Jack have some catching up to do.  Do they?  Claire is half way through a box of Fruit Loops and Jack just found out Claire is his sister.  What kind of catching up can they do?  And, Flocke appears to just want to get Jack aside to tempt him into his ticket off the island (like speaking to the old Jack).

8.  Sawyer offers Kate an apple back at the station.  I hope this isn’t a clue that these two will be our Adam and Eve.  I’m still rooting for a Juliet and Sawyer reunion.  Complete with a coffee, dutch.

9.  Why would the bomb scare Flocke?  They can’t kill him with the bomb.  They seem to know a lot about this guy, why do they think a bomb will stop him?  Unless there is something that they will blow up rather than threatening to blow him up.

10.  Des tries talking Claire out of going to the adoption agency and doing something “irreversible.”  I’m sure he wants her to keep this baby.  What else does this guy know about Claire raising Aaron?

11.  It’s ironic that Liz Lemon Zoe gives MIB a deadline of “Sundown” to give back Desmond.  It’s the same deadline MIB gave to the Temple people.

12.  Desmond down in a well, probably one of the electromagnetic spots.  We first met Desmond down a hole as well, the hatch.  What if Sayid didn’t kill Des but he did leave him down in that well?  What if they somehow do end up on the Ajira plane and take off?  Maybe Des will do something again with the energy that will once again crash the plane since the island isn’t done with them yet?  That would be some irony!

13.  Flash to FS Sayid telling Nadia he can never see her again.  Our answer that the deal if off with MIB?

14.  How amateur of Sayid, leaving out the back door then tripping over a hose?  Score one for cop Saywer but seems like something I would do rather than a trained assassin.

15.  I love the slight smirk on Sayid’s face when he tells Flocke to go check his work if he doesn’t believe him.  Just a hint of the good guy poking through.

16.  What happened to Ilana’s Russian accent?

17.  The FS and current time line are not running concurrently.  The FS is still in 2004. If things that happen in each time line can affect the other, what if by Jack “fixing” Locke so he can walk happens at the exact moment that Locke woke up on the beach in the current time line and could suddenly walk?

18.  Jack having Locke on the operating table is very similar to when he had Ben on the table.  Either Jack is going to kill Locke as he has a flash of the island (which I don’t think will happen) or Jack and Locke are going to have their flashes of the island here.

19.  Flocke picks up Jack and saves him from the bomb thinking he’s still dealing with the old Jack “man of science.”  I dont’ think he’s expecting the Jack who now believes he’s there for a reason.

20.  I think we were all expecting Sun and Jin to get zapped by the fence when they finally got their reunion.

21.  Remember a few seasons ago that Locke lost his voice and Boone told him that he would be able to talk again when he had something worth saying?  I guess the same thing happened to Sun.  Good thing because her paper probably got pretty soaked in that water.

22.  Well, we got a reflection this week but in a very interesting way.  Jack looking at Locke in the mirror as he’s ready to do surgery.

23.  Remember, no new Lost next week.  Buggers!

24,  Thanks to Lost Media for the screen caps this week.  My computer took a total dump so I don’t have the software to do my own.
