Illinois, home of Hanso?

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

I was going back through my pictures from our recent trip to Chicago.  My daughter likes to take snapshots along the road as we travel.  I was trying to decide which pictures to keep and which to trash and I happened to see this symbol in the corner of this picture.  Am I stretching here?

My daughter and I were on our way to Chicago last weekend and we couldn’t believe our eyes!

Three Minutes

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

1. Widmore bullets.

lost_bullets.jpg Click to enlarge

2. There can be no doubt that this was not Walt talking to Michael. Unless he was some sort of prodigy Boy Scout, how would he know that he was North? He tells Mike that he is being held by the rock with the big HOLE, but isn’t that a convenient landmark?

lost_computer_screen1.jpg lost_computer_screen.jpg lost_computer_screen2.jpg Click to enlarge

3. Why do the Others want these four specific survivors? They don’t seem to be *good* like the tailies that they took. The only theory that I have so far is that these four have seen things on the island that do not possibly belong there. Jack saw his dad. Kate and Sawyer saw the horse. Hurley saw Dave. Eko and Locke’s visions don’t count because they came to them in dreams. But I don’t know yet how the Others know that they have had these visions unless they have somehow induced them.

4. What happened to Kate? She is so scruffy! Just because you’re stranded on an island with killer Others is no reason to leave the hatch without some lip gloss! Get it together girl!
lost_kate_season_2.jpg Earlier this season

lost_kate_dirty_clothes.jpg Now

5. Um Mike, you’re not going North. Plus, I thought compasses weren’t supposed to work on the island?
lost_mike_compass.jpg

6. Hell. For some reason a Squirrel Nut Zipper song comes to mind… *In the afterlife…* Oops, off on a tangent. Anyway, Mike asks Eko about hell which seems to spark a story that is remarkably meaningful considering the situation. Me thinks Mr. Eko knows human nature and has already figured out Mr. Mikey’s crime. Why else pick the story about the boy “protecting” his sister and as long has he was “sorry” he would not go to hell. It also is very Shakespearean “Out damn spot” when he is trying to clean the blood off the floor.

7. Michael puking. Is this from guilt or drug withdrawal or both? I still think this guy was drugged and that is the only way I can see the audience forgiving him for his crimes.

8. Immunizations. I wonder how this is going to play into next season? Charlie has injected himself to see how it would feel before Claire gives it to the baby. Was he injecting himself with a virus or immunizing himself?

lost_charlie_immunizations.jpg Click to enlarge

9. Kate must have amnesia. Zeke is standing talking to Mike right as Jack and co. walk up in the jungle. He tells Mike, “If you make a sound you’ll never see your boy again.” I watched this back and Kate is right there when he says this. Why hasn’t she said anything about this? She has to know they were talking to Michael.

10. “Caught in a net,” I like this new Sawyerism. However, I don’t think that Sawyer was buddying up to Jack or thinks that they are now BFF’s. I think that Mr. Sawyer knows that he has given up his edge by handing over the guns so he needs to be on the good side of the survivors if he plans on getting back his hold. I also think that he was so eager to hand over the guns now is because of his own guilt over Walt being kidnapped and Sawyer wants his own revenge. Plus he has some unfinished business with Mr. Friendly. Showdown at the OK… hatch?

11. Eko’s cross being drawn to the wall is a *nudge* to us to remember that magnetic wall. I hear that it’s going to be opened up this week so we can see what is back there. Any guesses? Probably not Jimmy Hoffa.

lost_eko_cross_magnetic.jpg Click to enlarge

12. Poor Charlie. Building this church gave him purpose, not to mention he was like a kid telling his girl that he had a new job, when he was talking to Claire. I wonder if Charlie will try and enlist some help to get it done. Bernard is probably not busy.

lost_charlie_church.jpg Click to enlarge

13. I have a theory about the rock with the big hole and about what the symbol on the Other’s hatch is. I think that this rock was put there as a symbol to any ships coming ashore to know where to dock on the island. It’s their lighthouse if you will. I think that the symbol on the hatch is a door. It is the entryway to the island. I would guess that if you opened the doors you would find a corridor that leads out to a dock where the seabilly’s boat is hidden. There is probably some sort of cutout in the rocks that makes the dock secluded and hidden from view. If they are keeping Walt in this area it would explain why he is wet when he appears around the island (this would be a damp area). If I’m wrong, then I would guess it leads underwater to a different hatch.

lost_mike_rock.jpg lost_door.jpg lost_door2.jpg Click to enlarge

14. Didn’t the Others camp seem a little too set up like a Hollywood movie set? No one seemed all that surprised to see Michael and their little camp was so quaint with their villagers milling about at their tents with their drying fish. Not to mention the guns and needles. I don’t think that this was a production error but just the Others going with their image (remember the spirit glue and fake beards)? All here to keep up the facade for the survivors.

15. I’m guessing in season 3 we are going to see Miss Klugh show up in a flashback. Didn’t she sound remarkably similar to the custody attorney when she questioned Michael on why he knew so little about Walt?

lost_mrs_klugh.jpg Click to enlarge

16. Scott called it right away when Sayid grabbed both of Michael’s hands. He was checking his pulse and his palms to see if Mike way lying. Sayid is good! But why wouldn’t Sawyer or Jack be suspicious of why Mike wouldn’t want the only “real” soldier to go into battle with them? Wouldn’t you want a trained soldier going with you for your kid instead of the overweight goofy guy? Is it just me here folks?
lost_handshake.jpg Click to enlarge

17. Even more than a Charlie – Claire reunion, I want to see a Charlie – Locke friendship back. Maybe they’ll build the church together. Locke seems to take inspiration from Charlie here as he just cuts off his cast and heads back to the hatch. Can’t wait to see Locke’s version of letting go! Plus, I think that the writers knew that they couldn’t keep the audience interested in a story line that required a button to be pushed every 108 minutes. They are killing Locke’s obsession and our imprisonment to this story line.

lost_charlie_look_atlocke.jpg Click to enlarge

18. The scene with Mike and Walt was weird. If Walt hadn’t hugged him I would have thought he was projecting himself again. But Walt did say that they were pretending however I don’t think that Mike is taking this into consideration. He is taking them at face value.

19. Boat. Will they find Desmond asleep on the boat? I thought originally that the Others might have sent a boat over as a *nudge, nudge, remember your mission* to Mike but then I remembered that Desmond had a sailboat and he has probably been working on it since he left the hatch. Guessing that he would like to get off of this rock and back to the world now that he knows it hasn’t blown up… or so he thinks! Will he take the boat next season and sail off with some of the survivors?

Libby’s backstory

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

It’s official and has been said by the writers, we will find out why the plane crashed this season. So this Wednesday or next week we will have an answer. Of course, as any *true* Lost fan knows (I say with a smug look on my face) it will also lead to more questions. But that is what we love about this show, right folks!?

So I thought I better hop on the computer and put my theory out there. Now I can’t speculate the logistics of *how* the plane crashed, but I am sure that Libby had something to do with it.

Think about it, the writers have been kind enough to give us a good story before offing anyone. What about Libby? We know she was in Hurley’s backstory and we saw her briefly talking to Eko at the airport, but what else to we know about her? She gave us bits and pieces but could have been half-truths just like Goodwin was a Peace Corp worker (wasn’t that the irony of the season?). Libby never got an episode devoted to her past, coincidence?

lost libby in hospital1.jpg Click to enlarge

Here is what I’m thinking. Libby is 100% connected to the Others. Probably the bad Others. We WILL get a backstory on her but it will come through bits and pieces and be intertwined with the other character’s backstories. There won’t be one big epi devoted to her, but rather, we will learn of her past through her interaction and so-called chance meetings with the survivors. I think that back home as she was somehow responsible for making sure the survivors got on that plane. Maybe she was paid by Hanso, Widmore, or the illusive HIM, but at any rate, this was her purpose.

I can’t say why, but if you go to the upcoming episodes page, you can read how Libby will appear [back home] in the season finale. Totally goes with my theory. Yeah, she was in the asylum with Hurley, but we don’t know her role there yet. Remember she came up to Eko in the airport last week when he was talking to the *hypothermia* chick. She was probably panicking when she saw them talking because perhaps he would believe the resurrection story and not board the plane.

lost_libby_airport.jpg Click to enlarge

Man, Michael is s-c-r-e-w-e-d for shooting her! Deliverance will have nothing on what the Others will do to him.

lost_michael_shocked.jpg Click to enlarge

To add, I just found this:

“Damon Lindelof [reveals]: Libby’s got this mysterious backstory, of which we’ve only given you the tip of the iceberg. We know she’s spent some time in the mental institution with Hurley, and the idea of killing her before she had an opportunity to explain how she got there… we have a master plan for how we’re going to tell that story, but it’s all posthumous. You’ll start to learn Libby’s moves through flashbacks over the course of the next season. So we’re not done with Cynthia, but Libby is dead.” Source: The Ausiello Report

Do I need to break out the “I told ya so” dancing man?

Commercials usually suck…

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

My sis came over tonight to watch last night’s epi on TiVo (thank you Tivo friends!) because she thinks she had something better to do last night than watch Lost (geesh, some people). So we are watching, forwarding through commercials, of course, and I see a glimpse of “Hanso.”

“Did you see that?” I exclaimed.

“What?” my sister says.

“Hanso, I just saw the word Hanso in that commercial!”

“What’s Hanso?” Ah, the silly girl.

So I back the bus up and in between Dodge and the Invasion spot, there is a commercial for Hanso!

Check out the link above! It starts off with something like a lake scene at night with sketches of Plato and the guy in the circle (I think it is Divinci’s sketch). Voice over, “Since the dawn of time man has been curious, imaging all that is possible (*insert space shuttle blasting off and sketch of a strand of DNA*). The Hanso Foundation (*insert distant picture of Alvar Hanso in building*) reaching out to a better tomorrow (picture of the world, very Star Trek esque).” Then they go on to say, “Discover the experience for yourself, call 877-HANSOORG.”

We called the number and you get lots of different options. For instance, we picked #1. You get a polite greeting and then there is something like interference, a foreign language, something about Jeronimo Jackson and then a lady talking in a panic.

Check it out and let me know what you find!

He’s baaaaack.

So what might we see happen now that Michael is back?
lostmichaelcomesback.jpg Let’s get ready to rumblllllllle!!!

1. Michael is telling the truth. The Others have very little to defend themselves with and they could take ‘em down.

2. Michael has made a deal with *the devil* and is going to sell out his new friends to get Walt back. Heck, I’d sell all of you down the river to get my kid back.

3. Michael missed Vincent. The end.

4. Michael knows that the Others are pretty kick a** but doesn’t care since he wants his kid back. He just forgets how powerful The Others are.

5. Maybe Michael met up with the nice Others. There could be more than one group on the island and he truly doesn’t know how powerful or not the bad Others are. Maybe the nice Others want to overtake the bad Others and they convince Michael that they aren’t so powerful so that his survivors friends will help if they think they have a chance.

5. In true Scooby Doo fashion, Michael is going to try to gain the trust back of the survivors, convince them that they should be *very scared* of the monster in the woods, only to be figured out. His rubber mask will be pulled off in the end only to reveal Alvar Hanso who will exclaim “And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for you meddling island dwellers!”

The Whole Truth

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

1. Did you know that you can’t play the trumpet in Korea? Check out the sign in the distance:
lost sun dr sign2.jpg

2. So, the big news, Sun is expecting. Like we didn’t have enough to speculate about already, now we have *even more!* If Jin is truly sterile, here are our possibilities for daddy material:

lost preg test result.jpg

a. Arificial insemination. Maybe after Dr. What’s His Face told Sun that Jin was the problem, she decided that they needed a baby so that he could stop working for her dad. Or maybe she saw this as an opportunity before she left him so that she could move to the States and raise baby on her own.
lost sun jin doctor.jpg

b. Mr. Teachherenglish a.k.a Jae Lee. They did leave us hanging in the last flashback when he asks her why she is there in the hotel room with him. Sun gets that look, you know the one, in her eyes.
lost sun jae lee.jpg

c. The Others, Hanso, or the DeGroots. Remember that Claire was supposed to be on the pill and she got pregnant. Who knows who else may end up preggers. Hope Sawyer has extra tests! Maybe they are trying to breed super immune babies.

d. Simply put … Jin. Maybe it truly is a *miracle* and that is all there is to it. Sun and Jin are both in a more relaxed environment and it is not unheard of that someone who thought they could not conceive ends up pregnant.
lost jin miracle.jpg

3. Kate took a pregnancy test? Maybe during her brief marriage to Tom. What were the results, where is the baby?

4. It’s probably just a red herring, but Locke told Ana that she was running like the devil was chasing her. Almost the same phrase Desmond used when he met Jack on the bleachers. Coincidence? How often do *you* hear that phrase in every day conversation?

5. Why does Locke come to Ana to extract “the truth” from Henry? I think he does it purposely in this game he is playing with Jack. He tells Ana that it is because she is the most qualified to tell if Henry is being truthful. Sure he does. I think that Locke would trust Sayid much more over Ana, especially since she has only been with them for one week. OK Locke in the bathroom the same time as Jack? That is just too Brokeback Mountain for the general viewing public.

6. So how does Rose know it is Saturday? I thought it was sweet that they were arguing on the beach because he forgot her birthday. Who on earth would be able to keep track like that? Apparently Rose knows time much like she knew Bernard wasn’t dead.

7. OK, so could Sawyer pull off a con in these glasses? Sexy.
lost sawyer new glasses.jpg

… and his reading material has left alot to be desired:
lost sawyer book judy blume.jpg

8. Does anyone on the island know the story of the Wizard of Oz? First, we have Henry GALE who flies his BALLOON across the ocean. Now he says he buried his wife under the balloon because it was the closest thing to HOME that they had. Get a clue!

9. The pregnancy test that Sun has was from Widmore Labs. Henry’s construction co. was Widmore. Connection… YES! Maybe Widmore is an anagram? More importantly, who the HECK carries a pregnancy test on the plane? Were these planted in the wreckage by the Others? Did Sawyer go back to the medical hatch where Claire was taken and ransack the place?
lost preg test.jpg

10. I just loved the scene where Hurley walks up on Sun in the jungle. BUSTED!
lost hurley sun candy bar.jpg

11. What are Charlie and Sayid working on? Charlie said to Sayid something regarding the pole was awfully long for a table and Sayid responded that they would cut it in half. Looks like some sort of building?
lost sayid charlie work on something.jpg

12. Are Sayid or Ana wondering where Charlie got the gun? Why doesn’t anyone here ask questions? “Gee Charlie, I thought that Sawyer had all the guns secured. How did you get one?”
lost charlie give sayid gun.jpg

13. So Jack tells Sun that he advises her to tell Jin the truth, the Whole Truth but then proceeds to tell Kate that “everything is fine.” OK, so why isn’t anyone else taking shifts in the hatch? If only Jack and Locke essentially know about Henry (take out the Sayid and Ana incidents) wouldn’t Sawyer, Kate, or anyone who had signed up to press the button know that Henry was in the hatch?

14. OK so it starts to rain when Sayid and co. wake up the next day in the jungle. All of the experiences on the island where it started raining have not ended with a rainbow. Next week looks like trouble as Ana and Charlie are standing below the balloon and we see only Sayid back in the hatch pulling a gun on someone. Remember Henry’s little ambush speech? Oh, he is going to so suffer if this does happen.

15. Notice Sun was wearing a red shirt last episode. This has also not turned out to be a good omen for whoever was wearing the shirt.

16. Didn’t Locke say last season that the island giveth and the island taketh away when Boone died and Aaron was born? So if Sun is indeed pregnant then what or who will be taken?

17. Why did the producers play Sawyer and Bernard backwards when Jin was there and they were discussing Sun’s pregnancy? Obviously they were trying to convey that Jin could not understand but remember that the “whispers” in the jungle are backwards also.

18. Someone on one of the boards pointed out that about 2 months passes each season. So this would mean that Sun would be preggers for six seasons? Either timelines are going to be sped up, she is going to be further along than we speculate, or something tragic has to happen.

19. I thought in the beginning of the season when they found the pantry full of food that Hurley agreed with Jack to divy the food out to everyone? So why did Locke tell Henry that the pantry is full? And how fair is it that Locke and Jack are eating cereal and the rest of the survivors only have fruit and maybe some boar?
lost locke cereal.jpg
And what about the mysterious code on the box:(9)FFTR731?
lost hatch cereal.jpg
20. I wasn’t sure what, if anything, was being implied with the reflections of Sun. Check it out:
lost sun reflection big.jpg

lost sun relection2.jpg

21.  Check it out, Locke is listening to Jeronimo Jackson!
lost locke jeronimo album1.jpg

22. So Claire and the gang are back from the medical hatch. Did anyone ask where they were? Did Claire and company think that maybe it was important to mention to a DOCTOR that there is a MEDICAL hatch here on the island (I’m thinking that the operating room could come in handy now and then). And shouldn’t they be going back again to scour the place for goods? What about the disguises Kate found? Couldn’t they use the lockers or things potentially inside for their camp?

The Whole Truth … sort of

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Episode hasn’t aired yet so can’t say this is the WHOLE TRUTH… BUT since it’s become my new business to speculate, wanted to put a few things down on, err, cyber paper.

Check out this link.  It is a promo for Wed. that I had not seen yet.

Whole Truth Promo Clip

OK, so we see Jack tell (someone) that she must tell *him* the whole truth.  Who, Sun and Jin? What truth?  Is she pregnant?  We also see alot of Ana Lucia running on the beach (thinking David Hasselhoff, yikes!).  But I found it interesting that Sun is hiding something behind her back, playing keep away (was that Sawyer) and then Sawyer says that he is “intrigued.”

Then, I found another trailer for this week:

Whole Truth: Trailer #2

Jin comes to Sawyer for a pregnancy test.  Lots of interesting things also going on with Henry.

Check out this summary of Yunjin Kim’s (Sun)appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, then we’ll discuss:

From Yunjin Kim’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel: Hurley will get into a fight with someone, and if Sun is pregnant, her baby’s paternity will be a question. They also showed a clip from Wednesday’s episode that involved Sun and Jin arguing over Sun working in her garden. Jin doesn’t want her to get taken again, and Sun tells Jin that she doesn’t need his protection, prompting him to tear up her garden and say, “Now you have no need to be out here.” (The possible return of old-school Jin?) Plus, a new promo aired that had Charlie saying “You murdered someone” (not sure to whom, but possibly Ana-Lucia).

lost whole truth 1.jpg So I’m wondering if these two find out in the flashbacks that Jin is sterile.  They could have pursued fertility, etc… so I’m thinking it is entirely possible that Sun was preggers before they landed on the island.  After two months lots of women do not show.

But, I want to remind you that back in Season One in Raised By Another, Thomas and Claire are arguing and he accuses her of getting pregnant on purpose, even though she was on the pill.  What I am saying is that maybe Claire and Sun are *supposed* to be pregnant.  Maybe somehow Hanso is delving into some type of fetal research by inseminating women with a fetus that has been genetically designed to be immune to the *sickness.*

OK, so if that is a little too X-Files for your taste, could she have been messing with another trying to get pregnant, knowing that she was leaving Jin anyway?

Psalm 23 Part 2

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Oh boy, here it is Wednesday and I’m just now posting on last week’s episode. This job search stuff is really interfering with my Lost duties!

  1. The smoke. I’m just jumping right into this since it seems to be the topic of the most interest. Here is what I think, right or wrong, logical or crazy. Since we know that there are electro magnetic experiments on the island, it stands to reason that this cloud contains some sort of electricity. I keep reminding myself that the writers say that everything can be explained so it makes sense to me that the electricity in the “cloud” somehow stimulates the brain thus causing Eko and Locke to “see” familiar images to them in the smoke. I don’t think that Charlie could see what Eko was seeing because there was no projecting of his thoughts or reading his mind. I’m no expert on electricity (unless you count the hours of Sesame Street and/or other educational TV I watched with my daughter) but my guess is that it stimulates a brain response much like people describe when they have a near death experience. Eko and Locke saw their lives flash before their eyes
  2. What was Eko doing in Australia? Hunting down his “cargo” perhaps? Maybe that was the destination of the plane and he was hoping to find it and to also put his brother to rest. Remember he was wearing a suit that could just be another “disguise” much like the priest outfit was to him
  3. I thought it was an interesting pair, putting Charlie and Eko together. They both have brother issues. They both have a religious past. They both have a connection to the “cargo.” Black and white again.
  4. Why did the writers choose Psalm 23? They could have picked a lot of passages from the bible, so why this one? I don’t know, I was asking you!
  5. I also found the opening scene interesting, showing how the “others” came for the children. We don’t know what is happening to the children on the island yet, but are the writers leading us astray? Goodwin said that the children were “fine” and “better off” – could this be true?
  6. Michael on the computer. What did it say? All we saw was Michael ask “Walt” (who we all assume is not Walt) where he was and the reply “You need to come …” Scott and I discussed and his theory is that it says “ … alone.” This makes sense because we see tonight that Michael heads out on his on. WHY would he considering the hunters that he has on his side? I think that the writing was definitely on the computer and it appears that the “others” want Michael for something. Maybe his construction background? But I do think that he is not seeing things. Remember Kate’s horse was there, Sawyer’s boar, Walt, Jack’s dad (OK, we don’t know he’s there yet, but I think that Jack’s dad will make another appearance).
  7. Is Hurley going to get some loving? I hope so!
  8. Again we see the redemption and second chances theme at work here with Eko. I don’t know that they were brought to this island by some mystical force offering them chances, but I do think it speaks to the “real” John Locke’s theory of tabula rasa – their minds are again “blank” if you will, and they now see their experiences on the island through their experiences while they are there. I found this info on Locke (the philosopher) and I think it speaks to the “smoke” experience. “Locke maintained, because the primary world affects the sense organs mechanically, thus producing ideas that faithfully represent reality
  9. Shooting ranch dressing. Had it gone bad? Ranch is good on so many foods that I found it a shame that they chose this. There has to be so many things for targets on the island, did they have to shoot the ranch?
  10. Locke teaching Michael to shoot the gun. Maybe Michael was being taught how to see with his mind’s eye much like Locke taught Walt in using the knife. I think that these skills are going to come in real handy soon when Walt tries to escape the Others.
  11. How much hunting could Locke had done with his “dad?” We only saw them go twice – or was it implied? No matter, there just wasn’t enough time for Locke to have learned that much about guns from his dad. I sense more back-story coming!! Michael asked Locke how he knew so much about guns and he says that his dad taught him. Hm
  12. Could Eko possibly have a connection to Hanso? Eko was a businessman of sorts. Could that be why he was in Australia? I keep reading that Eko has a connection so I am wondering what it is.
  13. Burning fuselage in the middle of the jungle, no matter how wet the area is, seems like a bad idea to me. There also seemed to be quite a bit of fuel still in it so why stand so close as it burns! Just an observation, although as I type this I wonder if the amount of fuel suggests the location of the island in respect to Nigeria. Food for thought
  14. Tonight is Jack’s back-story. I already commented on the Hunting Party in a previous post, but just to recap there is an old Western movie where a man’s wife is kidnapped and he goes on a “revenge mission” if you will. TV Guide says we will see a surprise return of someone tonight also. Could it be Sara or Jack’s dad? Maybe more practically it will be Desmond or Ethan. Anyway, I wonder if Sara was nabbed back on the mainland?
