5 x 16 & 5 X 17: The Incident

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Hi Friends!  I can’t believe Season Five is over.  It’s like when a relative (one that you like) comes to visit and at some point you are ready to get your house back but in another way you are sad to see them go.  I was thrilled to see the season play out and there wasn’t even one episode that I was disappointed with but I was also very sad for it to end, especially knowing we only have one season left!  Argh!  What will our new obsession be?

So for me I want to start with the Sawyer / Juliet scene at the hatch.  H-E-A-R-T-B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G.  I don’t cry for very many shows and that scene did it for me.  But I keep thinking of what our softened up 1977 Sawyer is going to become after this event.  Look out folks, you aint see nothing yet!  The sheriff is back in town and he’s got one hell of a chip on his shoulder!
sawyer.jpg  Ugh, the heartbreak!
juliet2.jpg  Way to go Juliet!  Push through the pain!

1.  So we know Jacob likes to weave rugs.  If anyone can read what is on this one that would be super cool and appreciated.  But the rug is always the same in the end, right, it’s just a rug.  Anything he learns in the making of the next one or does different is progress.  Just like what he says about people coming to the island.

2.  Did Jacob catch a red herring?  The significance of that would be huge!  Or, it was just be amusing.

3.  Black and white shirts.  How fitting.

4.  Thank goodness Dan was so detailed regarding the bomb.  Maybe he had some sort of inkling that he may not be the one to do it or he knows how bad his memory is so that is why he was so very detailed.

5.  Locke wants to kill the rest of the passengers from the Ajira flight, I assume.  He tells Richard that once they are done with Jacob that they need to “deal with them.”  How interesting.  Perhaps he knows that Ilana and the others are there to help Jacob.  I don’t like the new Locke anymore.

6. Frank being a “candidate” must have something to do with how Jacob will take form and speak to them after his death.  Ultimately, it’s going to be either Miles or Hurley, I think, that does the talking for him.  Heck, Hurley may even be able to get a game of chess going.

7.  It makes sense that Smokey, the man in black, and undead Locke are all the same entity.  Smokey came to Ben and told him he had to do whatever Locke told him.  duh!  Like killing Jacob.  Smokey was *reading* everyone on the island as it/he needed to find the right person that it/he could manipulate.  No wonder it didn’t kill Locke!  It wanted him for later use.

8.  Jacob didn’t kill Nadia, he actually saved Sayid from being killed.  He made Sayid pause before crossing and thus he didn’t get hit by the car that ran the red light.

9.  Vincent!  Unfortunately, I’m sure that this will be the last time we’ll see this dog.  No back story. No more showing up when there’s trouble.  Unless… Jacob chooses Vincent to be his vessel around the island now that he’s dad.  That would be cool.

10.  This is the last of Rose and Bernard, too.  But, I love that they found a loophole of their own.  They don’t play the game anymore, they just live.  They’ve embraced the island and it is what it is for them.  I would venture to say that they are the “Adam and Eve” that were found in the cave back oh so many seasons ago.  Too bad Sawyer and Juliet couldn’t have found the same Garden of Eden for themselves.

11. The circle of Ash was broken from around Jacob’s cabin.  If memory serves, it was Locke that bent down and picked up some of the ash.  Perhaps that is when it was broken?

12.  Ilana’s eye opening.  It also kind of reminds me of Michael from the Halloween movies.  Eeeek!
ilanaeye.jpg    Click to enlarge

13.  Ilana didn’t just go back to the island to help Jacob.  She also made a little pit stop and nabbed Sayid to bring him back with her.  That is why I don’t think that Sayid will die from the gunshot nor will he did from the bomb.  Jacob needs him there for some purpose.

14.  Here is the part of the rug (I assume) that Jacob made at some point which Ilana knows already what it means.  I am hoping that we see some back story next year on their relationship.  Maybe she’s really old like Richard.
map.jpg    Click to enlarge

15.  It’s interesting that they’re carrying around the big old cargo crate like it’s the Arc of the Covenant.  Did they really have to pick such a huge friggin’ box that took four guys to carry around the island?    I guess the writer’s couldn’t have used such blatant biblical imagery if they would have thrown him in a body bag or a knapsack.
cargo.jpg   IndySallahArk.jpgClick to enlarge

16.  Maybe it’s not the content of the book Jacob is reading that is important, but more about the author, “lead readers—whom she sees as, for the most part, spiritually lost in the modern, secular world—back toward the path of redemption.”
book.jpg   Click to enlarge

17.  I miss Charlie!
ring.jpg  Click to enlarge

18.  Sun finding this ring makes me think back to when she (ironically) found her wedding ring in the sand.  How unlikely was that?  Perhaps some *divine* intervention helped her out there?

19.  The scene at the funeral of Sawyer’s parents, there is the sound of a large bird right before Jacob shows up.  Then, as he leaves you can hear the sound of a bird again (like a crow perhaps).  Could that be how Jacob gets around?  Remember the bird on the island that we thought sounded like it said “Hurley?  I keep thinking back to The Stand and in the book Randall Flagg gets around this way – he takes the shape of a bird.  Only, he’s the bad guy in that book and I like to think that Jacob is the good guy.

20.  I’m not liking that is was Jack’s dad that taught him about counting to five.  One of the most meaningful and life changing events and we find out that it was his dad who told him to do it.  Doesn’t seem as moving knowing this.  Oh, and Sawyer wanted just “five” minutes with Jack.  Lucky number I guess.

21.  Everyone that Jacob “touched” (except for Sun and Locke) were on the list of people that Jacob wanted from the survivors.  And, they are “coming” back from the past.  He somehow prepared them for this moment in the touches I think.

22.  The Sawyer and Jack fight was 5 seasons coming.  Glad they finally got that out of their systems … I hope.

23.  My bets are on Hurley for taking over as the leader of the Losties.  He was an indirect leader before (back on the beach Hurley had a subtle way of getting people to do things) and I can see him doing it again.  The war is coming between the black and white, the good and evil on the island and it doesn’t get much better than Hurley.  Plus, he’ll be able to talk to Jacob and what to do next.

24.  I loved the scene in the cab with Jacob and Hurley.  Someone to calmly tell him that he’s not crazy and getting to talk to those he lost is a blessing.  But I don’t believe that him coming back to the island was a choice.  Jacob knew once Hurley saw that guitar that he would go back (remember that Charlie told him that the people back on the island needed him).
jacobandhurley.jpg   Click to enlarge

25.  The fact that Mrs Hawking and Jacob both were working to get the Losties on the plane and back to the island tells me that she is actually a “good” guy.

26.  Creepy Locke.  Nice shadowing on the face – black and white / light and dark.
lockecreepy.jpg  Click to enlarge

27.  Marvin Candle had a gimpy arm in the Dharma videos.  We see that during the *incident* that his arm gets trapped and Miles helps to free him.  So…. wouldn’t that mean that this event *has* happened before?  How likely is it that another event was the cause of hurting his arm? Like Miles said, Jack is creating the exact event that he thought he was preventing.  Free will be damned, this was meant to happen.
milesandpierre.jpg  Click to enlarge

28.   What if Jacob decides to take over the Locke body from the plane?  Locke versus Locke?  Like the old Spy versus Spy cartoons!
lockebody.jpg  Click to enlarge

29.  Jacob tells Ben that he has a choice – either to do what Locke asks or leave.  Kind of like he told Hurley he had a choice.  I don’t think Ben had much choice and Jacob knew it.  But Jacob won’t be dead in the spiritual sense.  Maybe he’ll even become one of the “whispers.”

30.  I think once Ben realizes next season that Jacob wasn’t the bad guy he’s going to have some big regrets.  Ben has been trusting and believing in Jacob for a very long time.  I’m sure he still cares about him in a sense too.

31.   If I were an actress and I knew I was going to be killed off of a show, I would ask for the exact death Juliet had.  That was amazing.  And she is an amazing actress.  Oh, and in the context of the show, I guess the island wasn’t done with her or she would have been so dead at the end of that fall.

32.  THE greatest season ender…. ever.
ending.jpg  Click to enlarge

33.   So where do we go from here?  It’s safe to say the Losties aren’t dead.  Matthew Fox did an interview after the finale and admitted that they weren’t dead.  But, from knowing this show there is no way that they will just suddenly appear back in regular time.  There will be a cool and interesting way that they are brought back.  Maybe they will be a big troop of Locke’s.  lol  Maybe they will be the whispers.  Maybe they will inhabit all the dead bodies around the island.

34.  Desmond had a small roll this season but truly I think Des is the one and only person who can truly be a variable in all of this.  Des is special.  Once he shows up then all bets are off.  Maybe ultimately Des will become the new Jacob in the end.

35.  Sayid will be alive.  He has to be.  Jacob saved him for a reason.

36.  Which side of the war will Richard chose?

37.  What does Locke need with all of the Others?  He told him that they would need rest to be ready for what he had prepared for them.  Which is what?

38.  We still don’t know what was in the box that Ben was hiding from Jack when he was in the hotel room.

39.  Walt *saw* Locke, in a suit, running from lots of people trying to kill him.  Will Locke rise again in Jack’s dad’s shoes?

40.  Will Walt return to the island?

41.  How will Claire come back into play?  Aaron is surely coming back as well.  Will Desmond’s vision of them leaving the island on a helicopter come true?

5 X 16 & 5 x 17: Initial Thoughts

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Wow. Now *THAT* is how you do a season finale.

So bittersweet.  Two hours of amazing tv but now the season is over for another 9 months.

1.  Why the big fancy metal box to carry around Locke’s dead body?  Whatever / Whoever has taken over Locke apparently doesn’t need the corpse to take his form.  Unless there is a twin out there of Locke.  I hate that it’s not Locke though.  I thought this guy had finally found his mojo but turns out he’s the man in black.

2.  I can’t help to think again to Stephen King and the bad guy he has running around (Randal Flagg, Walter, whatever you want to call him).  I’m thinking it’s the same “bad guy” concept that has a hold of Locke’s body and I also think it’s the same guy from the opening scene that wants to kill Jacob.

3.  We are back to our black and white theme.  Very first scene, Jacob has on white, the other guy has on black.

4.  I really want to stew on my thoughts of that opening scene.  If you’ve seen the 80’s movie “Clash of the Titans” then you’ll remember the scenes where the “gods” were moving the people around.  It almost reminds me of the opening scene.  It’s like Jacob brings people to the island out of some “power” he has.  I think maybe he is hoping that on one of the boats / planes that crashes someone will kill him and end the seemingly endless loop of events.  According to the man in black, they come, they fight but it always ends the same.

5.  Jacob seems like such a kind man.  He goes to each one of our Losties at an important moment of their life and is so gentle.  Except with Locke he actually brings him back to life after he falls out of the tree.  But, Jacob goes to each of the survivors which surely means there is a larger purpose for them.  And when they crash on the island Jacob makes the list of who he wants from the survivors.

6.  Jacob must want Sawyer to finish the letter.  He gives him a pen.

7.  Should Jack really be carrying the inner part of the bomb around on his back?

8.  I think that Richard is suspicious of the *new* Locke.  He keeps staring at him (or so Locke keeps pointing out) and even says he’s different.  But Jack tells Richard that he shouldn’t give up on Locke so I think that Richard might be second guessing his suspicions.

9.  So Eloise is their leader.  Richard says so when he makes Jack and Sayid go ahead of him through the Dharma houses.

10.  I’m not clear on what Frank might be a “candidate” for according to Ilana.  Guess we’ll have to wait until next year to see.  Maybe a new *body* for Jacob to inhabit?

11.   Hurley is a rock star in that van.  How many times can he be a hero driving that thing into dangerous situations.

12.  I love Rose and Bernard.  I truly hope that they leave those two exactly where they are.  Give someone some happiness people!!!

13.  “It’s always something with you people.”  I agree with Rose.  They can’t just sit still and live a calm life, they are always shooting at someone.  But I guess it would make for one boring show if they didn’t.

14.  Ilana has her face wrapped and all we see is her eye.  We haven’t had an eye opening for awhile.  When Jacob comes to her in the hospital she obviously knows him.  What must he ask for her help with?  I’m thinking it’s to stop the man in black from whatever evil he’s spreading.  Maybe she is one of the good guys.

15.  AND, if Jacob wasn’t the one in the cabin then there are some people on the island who have been talking to the evil / black spirit on the island.  And, Claire was in the cabin so she is somehow involved with him.

16.  Book that Jacob is reading, Flannery O’Conner “Everything That Rises Must Converge.”

17.   The first time that Ben took Locke to the cabin the man in the black shirt is the one who asked Locke to help him.  I don’t think that Jacob was there at all.  And I think Richard knew that.

18.  I was sad when Sun found Charlie’s ring in the baby cradle.  Made me miss Charlie for one and for another I missed the old, more simple days of the show.  Charlie gave his life so that Claire and Aaron can leave the island and I still think that we will see that happen.

19.  Maybe Jacob going to all the important events was like Dan going to Charlotte as a little girl.  He’s trying to subtly influence their behavior and thus change the course of events and therefore breaking the loop.

20.  I think it’s cute that Jacob is the little old lady who lived in a shoe.

21.  I thought that it was going to be Jacob that actually put the woman back together during Jack’s surgery.  Such a poignant moment in his life that I’m glad Jacob didn’t heal her.  But, we can see that both Jack and Jacob like Apollo bars.  I’m not clear yet on what his role was in that scene.

22.  Sawyer is 100% right, a man does what he does because he wants something.  But, I don’t think that Jack is trying to change the future because of Kate alone.  I think it’s all of his regrets collectively that he wants to change.

23.  The Jack and Sawyer fist fight was five seasons coming.  I think they needed to have it out once and for all.

24.  Juliette learned early about being in love but not being with that person that you love.  The scene with her as a little girl was a wee bit cheesy though.

25.  Jacob wanted Hurley to have Charlie’s guitar.  But I love that out of everyone, he only straight talks Hurley.  And he also reassures Hurley that he’s not crazy but rather that he’s blessed because he has the ability to talk to his dead friends.

26.  Sayid will live.  Killing of Juliet (as I thought she would be) was the sacrifice for the season.  They can’t also take him away from us.  They just can’t!

27.  I don’t think that the man in Locke has the capability of killing Jacob.  Having Ben do it is the loop hole he had been looking for.  But I’m also not convinced that Jacob didn’t want to die.  He doesn’t do anything to make Ben feel better about not seeing him all those years.

28.  Notice the black and white shadows on Locke and Jacob’s faces in Jacob’s foot/house?  Ben doesn’t have the shadows but the two of them do.  Will have to screen cap.

29.  Yeah Miles!  Finally pointing out what we’ve been thinking.  That the Losties are actually causing the event that they think they are preventing.

30.  So the scene at the Swan construction site was crazy intense, once the bomb actually went off that is.  Like when Locke first let the numbers run out and all the metal started coming.  Miles saving his dad.  And of course the Juliet in the tunnel scene.  OMG, heart wrenching!  I was very teary eyed in that scene.  You can also believe that Locke is not going to take losing her well.  If he was bad before then he’s going to be totally off the charts now.  I can see him blaming Kate and Jack for her death since he seems to think that they had a very happy life until they came back.

31.  Yes, Juliet waking up at the bottom of the tunnel was unrealistic but if the island wasn’t done with her then it makes sense that she lived in order to set the bomb off.

32.  Anyone able to translate what Richard says lies in the shadow of the statue?

34.  I really hate that it’s not *our* Locke running around the island.

35.  Jacob says “They’re Coming.”  I think that he means the O6.  They *were* meant to come back and I think it’s to stop the dark man that has taken over Locke.  That is their purpose.

36.  Elizabeth Mitchell has to be beyond pleased with the way they wrote her character off of the show.  Sure, it sucks that she’s gone but if you are going to go, THAT is the way to do it!

37.  I also was moved with the flash that Lost’s final season is next year.  What!  Can it be true?  I knew that was coming as well but it’s going to be such a bittersweet season.

Initial Thoughts: Follow the Leader

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

OK, so who is the leader?  Looks like we’re back to Jack and Locke leading the packs.  Will be veeeery interesting when they hit the “present” to see who does what when new and improved Jack meets up with new and improved Locke.

1.  Too much dead Dan for me tonight.  It’s bad enough they killed him, I didn’t need multiple dead body shots.

2. OK, so I may lose people here but I want Kate gone.  I know why they keep her … because she’s the wrinkle in the plan (always, ugh she drives me crazy) but wow, Sawyer had a real shot at happiness.  Come on Darlton, you can’t just give *someone* happiness on this show?  I could totally see Sawyer and Juliet running off and making a nice life for themselves. Geesh, even in real life once in a while a guy can catch a break.  Guess the island isn’t done with him.

3.  I know why Locke has to kill Jacob.  Locke now believes that he had to be *killed* in order to be set free.  Jacob asked Locke to help him.  Locke’s way to help Jacob is to *kill him* in order to set Jacob free as well.  How will he do it, who know exactly but I have a feeling he needs the whole gang there in order to make it happen.  I really doubt that Locke wanted everyone to meet Jacob.  He needs their help and couldn’t just come out and ask them now could he.

4.  I love it, 30 years later and Locke is back on the beach carrying around a dead boar just like he started at the beginning of this show.  The irony of them on the beach didn’t escape me.

5.   So Richard is an adviser of sorts.  Adviser to who exactly?  I think that Richard plays a similar role that Abbadon played in that he is there to help people get to where they need to go.  Richard helps them stay on course or on the right “record” if you will.

6.   Did you catch Ben at the end tell Richard that he “TRIED” to kill Locke?  Either Ben is denying the truth (which why would he to Richard) or that sneaky little you-know-what is playing Locke right to where he wants him to go.  Not sure where that is yet but remember dear friends that Mr Ben Linus *always* has a plan.

7.   Richard thinks that he saw Jack and the others die back in 1977.  I’m holding on to the idea that someone (Juliet) will somehow move them forward in time just at the right second before the bomb goes off.  So of course Richard thinks that they die.

8.   Compass points them North.  Again with the North.

9.  BRILLIANT writing getting Richard back to the plane right at the exact second that Locke would flash with his injured leg.  I am in awe tonight, ok so most nights, but completely 100% in awe of the writing on this show.  To think that scene through from these various angles took some serious brain power.  Bravo Paul Zbyszewski & Elizabeth Sarnoff.  Bravo to the writers who also led up to this epi.

10.   Oh no not again.  Sawyer getting beat up.  He’s totally going to get back at Radzinsky, I’m sure of it.

11.   And hello, remember in Season One that Sawyer gets beat up by a “genuine Iraqi Soldier.”  He can surely handle a few blogs from a pasty guy living on an island.

12.  Ok, and here’s another flash back.  Sawyer would have completely left Hurley behind just a few short seasons ago.  Now Hurley says that they can’t leave him because Sawyer would never leave them behind.  Oh really?

13.   Best line of the night.  Pierre/Marvin comes in the jungle questioning Hurley, Miles and Jin about where they are going and who they are.  Hurley says, “But we asked you first.”  LOLs

14.   So Locke sends Richard over to help “past” Locke and his injured leg.  Locke knows he has to convince his “past” self to die and come back to the island.  He also knows that his past self needs some medical attention.  Wouldn’t it be cool if you could watch an event in your life and send one of your buddies to help you and convince you to do the right thing?  Another variable perhaps?

15.   Richard comes out from the pond into the tunnel and has fire.  Where did it come from?

16.  OMG, get Kate away from Sawyer.  And how many times must Kate come trying to save the day and ends up muddying the waters instead?  She has turned into Jack.  Always trying to fix things and sometimes things don’t need fixing!
17.  Locke gave his word to Sun that he would help to unite her with Jin and I think he will.  It may be on his terms and on his time but I do think he’ll help.

18.  Yeah, Sayid is back!  He always makes a dramatic entrance.  I guess they’re paying him enough they better bring him back on screen.  Plus he’s such a bad a$$ Jack will probably need him to help with the bomb.

19.  I’m curious where Sawyer drew the map to.  I’m thinking that it’s somewhere that will either hurt or kill Radzinsky.

Initial Thoughts: Some Like It Hoth

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Hoth, check it out here.  Freaking amazing that they can work this stuff into the show.  I just hope that this doesn’t open the door to all of those theories that they are on some distant planet.

1.   Wow, did Mile’s mom in the opening look like an older Sun or what?

2.  The numbers are back in full force.  Opening scene, 316 on the microwave.  Room Mr Vonner is in, #4, Sawyer is on screen #4.  Sector 334.  Can’t wait to see the source of the serial number for The Hatch (the famous original numbers).
3.   Sawyer tells Miles that he “owes him one” for erasing the security video.  But, since Miles kind of messed up his job I wonder how that will play into the relationship with Sawyer and Miles.  Now he owes him one in another way.

4.   It looks to me like workers who have “accidents” at the Hatch construction site get taken to the Orchid to be experiments for the Donkey Wheel.  Why send live people when you can shoot dead bodies through it.  Sure, you don’t know what happens on the other side, but you can see what happens on the Island end of things.

5.   Alvarez didn’t get a bullet hole in his head digging the ditch.  Remember the magnetism in the hatch (think Sayid’s cross)?  I think that it pulled the filling out of his mouth and through his head.  Oopsies!  Horace is also talking to Pierre and says that he “doesn’t know if it was caused by the electromagnetism.”
6.  I’m digging the punk Miles with the spiked hair and the piercings.

7.  Miles has daddy issues.  No wonder he fits in with the Losties.  I’m not convinced that Pierre kicked Miles and his mother out when he was a baby.  I’m thinking that Pierre may have known that that the Hostiles would take them over or something bad was coming and actually saved them by making them leave the island.
8.   I’m also convinced that Pierre knows that adult Miles is his son.  We’ve been told that Pierre knows about time travel and remember the video from Comic Con?  He knows it’s possible and doesn’t seem the least bit surprised when Hurley points out that they have the same name.

9.  Having Hurley back on screen was a very welcome sight.  He’s hilarious and I love that he asks so many questions.  And re-writing The Empire Strikes Back?  Excellent!

10.   Maybe Hurley isn’t so crazy afterall, that he can talk to dead people and play games with dead people.  His gift is just a little bit *different* then Miles’. But what I want to know is why Hurley never talks to Libby?
11.   Mr Gray is the brother-in-law from Breaking Bad.  For anyone that hasn’t seen that show you must go immediately and rent a coyp and watch season one.

12. Oh boy, back to whiney Kate.  I agree, she needs to keep her mouth shut about Ben.  It’s nice that she feels bad for Roger, but she helped to save his son so can’t she take any relief in that?  She’s meddling where she needs to just back off (take a tip from Jack, Katester).

13.   I guess we can see where Miles gets his sense of humor from.  Pierre tells Hurley to keep quiet or he’ll be shoveling polar bear turds on Hydra Island.  But that douche is Miles’ dad.  Some great lines tonight.

14.  Looks like a major reveal tonight.  Widmore was the one who purchased the plane and sunk it in the ocean to look like 815.

15.   Jack in the classroom – erasing the information about Egypt on the blackboard.  Considering hieroglyphics are Egyptian, I would like to know why they are teaching the kids about the culture and what it has to do with the island.

16.   Jack defends Kate to Roger.  How sweet.  *cough, cough*

17.   Guess we also know now why Miles asked Ben (when Ben was captive) for $3.2 million.  He wants the money not to turn him in to Widmore’s people.
18.  OK, how does all of this huge construction equipment get to the island?

19.   Hm, shadow of the statue riddle again.  Makes me think that Ilana (with the same riddle) is working for Ben.

20.   Uh oh, Juliet’s in a red shirt.  Not a good sign for her.

21.   Remember the eye from the cabin that appears when Hurley is there?  I’m thinking that was Pierre.  I’m starting to think that Pierre might actually be Jacob.  If not, then he’s in that cabin for some reason.

22.   DAN!!!  I was just as glad to see Dan as I was when Locke came back.  But what the heck was he doing in Ann Arbor, hanging out with the Degroots?  And now that Dan is back, he can help the Losties get back to modern time and probably causing the “incident” in the meantime.  AND!  The tie is gone!

23.  The 100th episode.  Dang!

5 X 12: Dead is Dead

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Oh Ben, what have you done?  He broke the rules by coming back (according to Widmore) and he used the guise that he was coming back to be judged.  So Locke gave him the little *push* he needed to go to Old Smokey for the judgment but I think Ben ended up worse than he started.  Was he judged, yes he was.  But what he ended up with was instructions by the one person he loves the most telling him to do what he dreads the most – following Locke.  Can I get a “HA HA!”  Be careful what you wish for people because you may get more than you bargain for, just ask Ben.

1.  I don’t know how long Ben will follow Alex’s instructions and Smokey, or whatever entity appeared to him, may have known this.  Setting Ben up to fail?

2.  I love how Ben “Dr Phil’d” Frank by asking him how the plan of having a boat of commandos come to the island worked out for him.  Dr Phil always asks people who are making bad life choices how it’s working out for them.  But Frank does make a good point to Sun.

3.  I’m not loving the Mediveal Widmore look.
widmore2.jpg   Click to enlarge

4.  When Widmore questions Richard on why he saved Young Ben Richard says two items of interest.  First he says that Jacob wanted it done followed by “The Island chooses who the island chooses.”  I took this to mean that Jacob IS the island and therefore if Jacob chooses Ben to live then The Island chooses Ben to live.  What this means… Jacob somehow is a manifestation of the energy of the island?  The second item of note is that when Richard tells Widmore that Jacob wanted Ben saved Widmore doesn’t question this.  I assume that this means Widmore cannot talk to Jacob.  I don’t think everyone can talk to Jacob, only a few chosen few.  I still question whether Ben could really talk to Jacob and that is why he was so shocked that Locke could hear Jacob.  Only a special few can hear what Jacob says.

5. Are we really sure Locke was ever dead and didn’t just appear dead?  I know, I know… the episode is titled “Dead Is Dead.”  Which is true, but if he wasn’t DEAD then he is alive now.  In other words you have to be DEAD to be DEAD.  So if John was always alive then it explains how he’s back up and walking around the island.  To back me up, I believe and have read that when you have lost everything then those are the most brave and free people in the world because you are already at the bottom.  If Locke believes that he really was dead then there is nothing else that he can lose at this point thus freeing him to be this new and improved Locke we see on the island.  It’s a more believable explanation then that he has somehow been resurrected.  I guess only time will tell.

6.  I can’t wait to see what’s in the big silver crate.  Kind of reminds me of Season One when Kate was so desperate to find the silver suitcase that the Marshall had been carrying.  I’m still thinking there is some type of honing device that is going to help Widmore locate the island.  Ilana has some boys helping her too which makes me think she had some people on this plane with her even though they weren’t sitting up front with her.  It reminds me that Sayid had them taking the transceiver to the highest point they could in order to send a signal out to anyone trying to locate and save them.  If this equipment is going to send out signals they may have to move it for a similar reason.

7.  I would have loved for the writers to have had Ben introduce himself as “Henry Gale” to Ceaser.

8.   The question is, why did Danielle tell Sayid that she never saw who took her baby but that she does hear them?  Watching the epi back, it looks like (per the screencap below) this is all she really sees of Ben in her tent.  I can’t see that she really ever gets a good look at him.  This would also explain why when she had Ben trapped in her net that she didn’t realize it was the same man from that fateful night.

9.  The island must have wanted Alex and Danielle dead, for whatever reason.  First Robert tries to kill pregnant Danielle, then Widmore sends Ben to do the job but ultimately it’s Keemey’s group that finishes the job.  Maybe in the grander scheme of the chain of events Danielle and Alex don’t fit in and have somehow interfered so in order to course correct they must both die.  Really, Alex does later help the Losties live and escape so maybe she somehow changed the course of what was going to happen.

10.  The shoes!

11. I know there is some chatter about those in the past changing the future.  I’m starting to think that there might be something to it.  When Ben first gets off the boat with John (after leaving the second island) he does have somewhat of a confused look on his face, almost as if he can already see that things have been changed.  Is it just me here thinking this?
ben2.jpg  Click to enlarge

12. They’ve been off the island for three years.  I would assume by the state of Otherville, the Others that did leave for the Temple didn’t go back there.  But, the interior of Ben’s house is in such disarray it seems to point to the fact that more happened there after they left three years ago.  Why would the houses be such a mess (like books all over the floor)?  Unless the past was changed which made the future different which means we haven’t seen yet why the houses are in such disrepair.

13.  Ben does tells Locke earlier in the epi that all 6 (5 really) are back but he doesn’t know yet where they are.  So I believe it when Ben looks at the picture and seems surprised to see Kate and the others in the picture.
picture2_2.jpg    picture1_2.jpg  Click to enlarge

14. I still want to know what Locke had to go do while Ben was down summoning Smokey.

15.  It’s still bizarre to me that Ben keeps Smokey contained by a water trap.  Is Smokey like the Wicked Witch and can be killed by a little water?  And how do they get Smokey back?  Does Ben have to go back to the cave and plug the hole back up or is it somehow self containing and the water fills back up and slowly draws Smokey back in?  Are there other places on the island that can also control the Monster?  Mysteries everywhere.
hole1_2.jpg   hole2_2.jpg   Click to enlarge

16.  You know I love this show but seriously, they needed to do something better with Ben’s hair.  I’m sure there was somewhere in the budget that they could have made a better wig for him.  And Mandak you are right, he does look a little bit like Hitler.
bens_hair1.jpg    benshair2_2.jpg   Click to enlarge

17.  Locke assures Sun that he’s the same man he’s always been…. because he was never dead!?

18.   Maybe it’s not such a mystery how Locke knows where to go and how Locke knows where Smokey is.  Remember that Locke spent a lot of the first few seasons wandering around in the jungle.  The island can’t be so big that he couldn’t have found his way around quite a bit.  And, Locke is an explorer, an adventurer, a tracker, so he knows a lot about keeping track of things in this kind of environment.

19.  Ben wants Sun to apologize to Desmond but for what?  Sure, trying to kill Penny was bad, but bad enough that Ben sends back an apology?  Yes, we saw Des beat the living daylights out of him but it doesn’t explain why his arm was in a sling and it surely doesn’t give Desmond a reason to come back to the island (which I think he will).  I think that there is more that Ben does that we haven’t seen yet.

20.  Seems like Ben and Sawyer have something in common.  Sawyer was ready to walk away with the couple’s money until the little boy walked out and saw him.  Then Sawyer leaves the money and walks away.  Ben is ready to shoot Penny then little Charlie comes walking out and he lowers his gun.  Would he have shot her anyway if Des had not come and stopped him?

21.  What lies in the shadow of the statue?  I’ll tell you what lies there… the well.  And what is in the well?  The donkey wheel!  I still think that this is a riddle that Ilana has been instructed to use to make contact with … whoever she is supposed to make contact with.  But, I also think it’s a real question and if she finds the Orchid Station and the wheel there could be terrible consequences.

22.This hieroglyph has already been discussed to death (no pun intended) in other places but feel free to add your comments or further discussion.  I think it speaks for itself with the image.
wall2.jpg   Click to enlarge

23.  I’ve said it before, but the smoke scene with Ben is a) cheesy and b) way too similar to the scene where Dorothy is whirling around in the tornado.  Either there were too many budget restraints and this is the best they could do or they did it on purpose.  I really don’t want to believe that somewhere in a production room they were sitting there saying how great this scene looked.  I choose to believe it was done on purpose.
smokeimage1.jpg    smokeimage2.1.jpg   smokeimage3.1.jpg   smokeimage4.1.jpg   WoO-tornado.jpg

24.  I think that the difference between when Eko meets Yemi and Ben meets Alex is that Ben repented and Eko did not. The question is now, will Ben stick to his word or will his urge to control and run the island get the better of him?
25.   I’m so excited that Miles gets to do his thing next week.  Also, check out the upcoming episodes as it looks like the Season Finale is going to be fantastic!

26.  I was also wondering if Ilana and the contents of the mystery box will somehow assist in bringing the 1977 Losties back to current time.

Initial Thoughts: Dead Is Dead

OK, it’s wrong how much I love this show.  I keep wondering how they are going to top themselves week after week but they just keep doing it.  I don’t think that another show will ever be as captivating to me.  I’m glad they won’t drag it on forever but dang it, I’ll miss it when it’s gone.

1.   I almost forgot about how much I hated Keemy.  Seeing him in the recap tonight reminded me just how evil he was.

2.   I thought it was kind of funny how Charles was riding the horse with his long, flowing hair.  Looked kind of Midevil.

3.  Jacob didn’t want Ben to live and neither did the island.  Richard forced that hand.  It seems like Ben was thrust into the leader role but he wasn’t really meant for it, Locke was.  So Ben didn’t really have a rivalry with Widmore, it’s more with Locke because Locke was born to be the leader.  But, Widmore and Ben both wanted the leadership role thus creating the rivalry.  And we’ve seen what Ben does to those who challenge or get in the way of what he wants (Juliet).

4.  OK, if you are loving the new Locke raise your hand.  He’s had a rebirth, literally.  I was loving all the straight talk and no “BS” John Locke.  This guy’s not the pushover softie anymore.

5.   Hm, what is in the big silver mystery crate on the beach that Ilana and gang are trying to open?  I think there are guns but they said it “needed moved” so maybe some homing devices so outsiders can find them?

6.  Interesting that Ben is trying to tell Cesar that Locke wasn’t on the plane but he’s not going for it.  Ben is switching roles now and he’s the survivor and Locke is the Other.

7.Remember that Jack’s tattoo says something along the lines of “He walks amongst us, but is not one of us.”  I was reminded of that when Widmore tells Young Ben that just because he lives with the DI doesn’t mean he’s one of them.
8.  Widmore ordered Ben to kill Danielle.  But how could they have not known that she had a child?  It’s interesting that Ben has such a soft spot for the children.  He also lowers his gun when he’s about to kill Penny and little Charlie comes out from the boat.  But the scene where Ben steals Alex was just horrible.  And we still don’t know what all the smoke signals were about when Danielle stole baby Aaron and tried to trade him for Alex.

9. Ben mentions that Danielle should run when she hears the whispers.  But I don’t necessarily think he controls them.  Need to stew on that one a bit.

10.  Locke calling Ben’s bluff about the smoke monster, just awesome.  What we’ve been waiting for for awhile.  Some straight talking.

11.  Ben knows about Ilana and Cesar not being “just” passengers.  I’m not convinced that Cesar and Ilana are necessarily working together though either.  So many new elements to consider.

12.  Why would Widmore think that Danielle was a threat to the island or was he just being a bully?

13.  Did Ben think that instead of killing Danielle he was doing her a favor by stealing Alex?  Seems pretty messed up.  Almost seems like Kate’s excuse for taking Aaron, to protect him, but in reality she wanted the baby.

14.  Ben doesn’t remember the rest of the O6 in DI, even though he was there.  Ben looks pretty shocked to hear that Sun has been talking to Christian.  We don’t know the connection yet with Ben and Christian.  Will be very interesting to see how this all fits.

15.   So cute when Ben was swinging Alex.  Almost made me forget that he’s a kidnapper.  But I do believe that she is the one person that he truly ever loved.

16. Has Ben been controlling when Smokey comes out to play?  Looks that way.  But before Ben was in control someone else had to be calling it’s moves.

17.  Ben’s wigs were really awful.  Too much in special effects and nothing left for hair pieces?

18.  I like how Ben tells Sun he can’t control what comes out of the woods and then John walks out.  Funny.  But what was our buddy Locke doing out in the woods?  And, he can’t control Locke anymore.
19.   Ben has killed many, many people.  The only one he thinks he must atone for is Alex.

20.   We assume that Ben doesn’t kill Penny but I don’t know that for sure.  The last we see Ben is in the water.  I only hope that it’s true.

21.  “What lies in the shadow of the statue?”  A riddle, like the snowman riddle Desmond has when they first go into the hatch.

22.  I loved this epi but the flashes of Alex in the smoke monster were a wee bit cheesy.  Again, seems like the budget must have been a little thin this week.  But the meaning was still there so I’ll forgive them.  It was all just so Wizard of Oz like when Dorothy is being swirled around in the tornado on her way to Oz.
23.  Alex comes to Ben like Yemi came to Eko.  Only Eko turned against him and was killed whereas Ben does not.

24.  Has the smoke monster given Ben back the innocence it took away from him as a child?  I can’t wait to see!

Yes!  A whole episode around Sawyer.  It’s about time!  He’s been hanging in the background long enough!

My first thoughts when they were showing the scenes from last week is that now Daniel has a heartbreak just like Hurley did.  Not sure that means anything, it was just sad to see how much Daniel cared for Charlotte.

1.  Interesting that Juliet keeps calling Sawyer “James.”  Old habits die hard I guess.

2.   A brief glimpse of the statue.  We still don’t know what it is, but now we know how it broke.

3.  Nice pot brownies they were eating.  Guess it’s just a peaceful community, huh?

4.   So they are keeping the bears in the cages.  If they stay in the 70’s we’ll get to see what that’s all about… finally.

5.  If Horace finds the dynamite then he has to have found The Black Rock.  Sawyer’s story was that their ship was the Black Rock.  Not that Horace would remember with all the brownies and alcohol.

6.   I really like Horace as the leader.  He’s so kind to everyone.  Unfortunately, as in real life, the really great leaders don’t always make it when someone like Ben with his personalitity is around.

7.  New theory!!!  What if Richard and Jacob are arch enemies like Ben and Widmore?  Maybe, Richard was a corpse like Christian (and now Locke) and was on the Black Rock when it crashed.  The island somehow brings him back to “life” and that is how Richard understands the process.  Anyway, somehow Richard and Jacob are enemies and that is why Jacob must be kept in the shack.  Richard is truly the mastermind behind all of it.   This would explain why Richard is so “old,” why Jacob is trapped in the cabin and why ultimately Richard seems to be there for all the important events.  Thank goodness that Nestor Carbonell’s other show bombed because he seems pretty central to the plot here.

8.   Nice to see that stuffy Saywer of the past still has a sense of humor.  He tells Amy that Horace’s actions are going to be on the coconut telegraph.  I remember him saying something similar to Hurley about the coconut internet.

9.  So what are we thinking about past Sawyer/LaFleur?  I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sawyer and Juliet together.  Was looking forward to him breaking the Kate habit.  But the whole look doesn’t do much for me.  The glasses and the limp 70’s hairstyle.  However, the kinder, gentler Sawyer is extremely appealing to me.  I kind of like the hippie Sawyer’s personality.

10.  Poor Daniel.  He’s so out of it that there are gun shots and he just stands there while everyone else ducks.

11.  It doesn’t look like 1974 or the preceeding 3 years have been so bad to them.  Ben originally says that some terrible things have happened over the 3 years back on the island, but truth be told, it looks like they have really moved forward and became comfortable in their lives on the island.

12.  I want to see a Miles episode.  He has the crazy talent for talking to dead people and I’d like to see it in use!

13.   Seems like we know now how Patchy survived being shocked by the sonic fence.  It just knocks you out.  Nothing too special about him after all.  OK, well maybe he’s still special but it’s not as tricky as we thought.

14.  The Truce.  DI and Hostiles.  Richard finds a way around that with Ben doesn’t he?

15.   Doesn’t look like Jughead has started to leak yet.  Like Sawyer said to Juliet, whatever makes them not be able to have babies hasn’t happened yet.  Ooo! Lightbulb!  What if Juliet figures out what *is* causing the women to miscarry by being back in time then chooses to stay when they return to present time because she can help them now.  Juliet and Sawyer can stay back and restart the DI.

16.  The Losties know about Ben’s purge of DI so will they warn them or do they have to stay quiet so as not to change the course of events?

17.   Did we ever hear what Amy named the baby?  Please tell me it’s not Charlie again.

18.   They are playing on the same record now, just not the song they want to be on.  I like the parallel between all the record players we’ve seen and their 70’s music.

19.   Dan sees “little girl” Charlotte.  Gave me goosebumps.

20.   Guess it used to be a heck of a lot easier to come and go from the island when Horace was in charge.

21.   The alarms in the compound that sound are identical to those on the second island where Jack, Kate and Sawyer were held captive.  Will we see their purpose while they are back in time?

22.   Richard sure does make it through that fence easily.  Maybe because he’s “special?”  He says that it keeps other things out… like Old Smokey perhaps?  Or Other Others?

23. Remember Ben’s secret room in his house where he went to get his passports and some underground tunnel?  I would guess Juliet knows about it.  Could it come to play now?

24.   Richard doesn’t seem very surprised when Sawyer tells him the story about Locke, the bomb, etc…  Perhaps he was expecting them?

25.   Oh Lord, now Kate has to come back and mess up their peace and tranquility.

26.  I loved this episode.  But everything was just too sweet for Lost, something really bad is for sure going to happen.  I love how Sawyer has found his place and seems so at peace with it.  I could have seen an ending for the show in this manner and I hope for Locke that they help him to finally find his place, too.

Initial Thoughts: 316

I want to thank the writers of Lost.  This season has been so good, dare I say on par with Season One?  I hope they have as much fun writing this stuff as I have watching it.

1.  So I watched some of the pop ups from last week’s episode.   It’s safe to say Christian is not Jacob.  The specifically said that Christian claims to be able to speak “on behalf” of Jacob. And they flat out cofirmed that Mrs Hawkin is Dan’s mom.

2.  Love, love, love the opening that was just like the opening of Season One.  Well, except for Jack holding the piece of Jack’s Locke’s note.  Which the note was a total set up, by the way.  I mean, it was so obvious this week that every way Jack turned he was being set up.  But I wasn’t mad at him for being so naive, instead, I felt that Jack wants so bad to go back that he doesn’t care if it’s a set up.  He’ll do what it takes to go back.  Remember, he can’t leave anyone behind (must go back for them) and has a nasty habit of wanting to fix everything.

3.  I think we are getting new numbers this time.  Flight 316, 46 hours earlier, 78 passengers.  Lots of new numbers.

4.  I wonder if Hurley somehow got a hold of one of Charlie’s guitars and brought it with him?  Ben did tell Jack to take anything of sentiment with him because he’d never return.

5.  I also hope that Hurley packed TONS of batteries this time for his headphones.

6.   So when they are back on the island, do the Losties become the new Others?  Will they have to kill off the original Others (like Ben wiping out the DI to take over)?  Where will Richard fit in all of this?

7.   We see the picture in the Lamp Post of the island, government top secret photo.  Guess we know why the government sent troops there.

8.  Mrs. Hawking explains about a gentleman who solved the mysteries of the island.  I’m sure it’s safe to assume that gentleman is Dan.  But the whole Desmond meeting her on behalf of Dan was very anticlimactic.  I don’t think she’s done with Desmond.  I think she finds him once the O6 are gone and convinces them to go back.  She does tell him that the island isn’t done with him either.

9.   Wow, all the counters in the Lamp Post hatch! and I love that when Jack asks Hawking if Ben is telling the truth, she says, “probably not.”  But Jack just keeps on believing him…

10.   Why is Mrs Hawking so dressed up?  It bothered me that she’s wearing heels.  Must be a quirky family trait to wear odd clothing (like Dan and his tie).

11.   Did you see the statue behind Mrs Hawking in her office?  Looked like the statue that had the heroin in it.

12.  We will find out for sure next week, but I really don’t think Locke kills himself.  I think that he’s ready to but then at the last minute he figures out something or Ben tells him something and fights it.  The doorman hears a struggle so something goes on.

13.   Ok, it’s just sick and weird that Locke is supposed to be the proxy for Jack’s dad.  And wouldn’t Jack be wondering why they couldn’t use another body, any body?  Why does it have to be Locke?  Why can’t Locke just go back?  Why does he need to be wearing something from Jack’s dad?  And hello, ironic that Jack visit’s his grandad and he just happens to have “nice shoes” from his father?

14.  The mystery of the white tennis shoes is answered.  Jack just stuck some old, dirty shoes on his dad.  Remember we see the white tennis shoes on Christian when he’s in Jacob’s shack?

15.   Interesting story about Thomas and Jesus and the ressurection.  Again, ironic timing, huh?

16.   I’m thinking the “old friend” that Ben has made a promise to is Widmore.  I HOPE I am wrong, but Ben goes to kill Penny.  Ben knows Desmond is there and knows he’s with Penny.  Ben thinks he has to take his revenge on Widmore for killing Alex, that was his promise.  I could see what Ben has to haul ass to get on the plane and get out of there.  Widmore will be out for BLOOD if Ben kills her.  Desmond will be out for BLOOD if Ben kills her.  And… it will explain how Des is talked into returning to the island.  He will want to find Ben and kill him.

17.   Rabbit in the magic trick reminded me of the rabbits we’ve seen back on the island.

18.  I think Grandpa Ray is going to show up on the island.

19.   What has Kate done with Aaron?  She must think it’s terrible for her to be so upset.  And, I thought ALL the O6 have to go back, which includes Aaron.  And Desmond’s vision was Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter out of there.  Me thinks little Aaron will show up on the island and freak out Kate.

20.   OK, who wants to buy meat in a shop that has been storing a dead body.  Gross!

21.   I like that Jack is turning into the Man Of Faith now.
22.   WE were set up by ABC to watch Life On Mars to see the Lost Untangled.  I’m TiVo’ing now so I can just watch the Lost stuff.  Am interested to see what it’s about.
23.   Kate is a (fill in the blank).  Sleeping with Jack and Sawyer when she’s emotionally a wreck.  And, she looked very island-esque at his place right before they take off.  No more fancy dresses and makeup.  I like this Kate better.

24.   Kate is also acting very much like she’s hiding from something.  Who did tell Hugo to show up?  Who does he trust enough to go?  And was it me, or did some of the scenes resemble the first itme they boarded flight 815?  Hugo almost didn’t make that flight either.

25.  Nice of Jill to give Jack five minutes to pull the van up.  Enough time for Jack to do what he has to do.

26.   Ben really is a bastard.  He doesn’t care what happens to the other people on the flight?  Will they show up on the island too?  I’m thinking its’ a nice way to bring in new characters.  Not like we need any though.

27.   I KNEW it would be Frank flying that plane!  He was supposed to be the pilot of 815.  I’m excited he’s back. I love his character.

28.   Back to The Langoliers…. here is another parallel to that book.  They fly through a time rip and only some of the passengers travel (in that book, it’s those that are asleep).  Reminds me how only our O6 (and Ben) seem to make it back to the island.  And we do hear the noise (like the time travel noise) so it’s probably just them.

29.   This looks like the pond from Season One where they find Kate’s suitcase with the guns.

30.  So Jin.  What the heck??? The Dharma van looks new and I doubt there’s paint laying around.  And he’s wearing a Dharma suit.  And if he’s traveling in time, why would he be driving the van around and why would the road still be open?  If it’s the past…. then why would Jin recognize them?  This is so good!

31.  If that flight was full, why were there so many empty seats?

32.  Did Hurley turn in Sayid so he’d be on the plane?
33.  I’m excited to go back and watch this one again!  Talk to you in a few days!

5 X 05: This Place Is Death

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

If you thought this episode was about your workplace, well then you probably in for a let down. :)

Ratings were down again for Lost.  Is it really a surprise?  We are down to the nitty gritty now with the show.  Things are now making sense (well, sort of) to those of us who have maintained our commitment to the show.  Lost isn’t one of those shows that doesn’t delve into character development, the characters (including the island) *are* the show.  You can’t just pop in and out like a soap opera and a year later it’s the same story line.  The show has evolved and yes, it does take thinking to keep up and understand what is going on.  So for those viewers who have lost interest, I’m sure they are glued to the set every week wondering who’s going to get voted off their favorite show.  Lost isn’t for those with a short attention span and those who don’t want to think and commit.  But I know that there are at least still 9 million of us in the US still watching Lost and I don’t think that those ratings are too bad all things considered.

1.  Ben the bad guy vs. Ben the good guy.  I have to say that a guy who can unemotionally gas his own father cannot possibly be a good guy.  But, I’m still shocked by Ben defending Jack to Jill.  I hope by the end of next year the question is answered but perhaps there is some middle ground?  Like anyone who has read the book “Hannibal” can relate, you can be a horrific killer and still somehow there is a human being inside somewhere who does have feelings and the capability of being kind to others.  I’m also wondering what Ben means when he tells Sun and Jack that they have no idea the things he’s had to do to keep them safe.

2.  Is Locke a sacrifice the island demands?  Remember how Locke says this about Boone?  I’m thinking this – Smokey is a security system for the Temple.  The Others are headed to the temple when the Freighter is headed to the island.  We know that when Danielle’s team gets close to the Temple Smokey pops out and takes one of them in what looked to me like a sacrifice.  So how does this all tie together?  The Temple is the heart of the island so when you reference the Temple you are in essence talking about the island.  So I think we are going to see that some force around the Temple is what is demanding these “sacrifices” and Smokey will factor into the mix.  I would assume that the group of Others headed to the Temple probably had to sacrifice one of their group to Smokey in order to enter the Temple.  Maybe the Temple is where Locke will re-enter the island either in his flesh or in whatever form Christian has taken to move around.

3.  I’m questioning the nature of the “sickness” that Danielle’s team had.  Many of us assumed when we saw the Freighter gang getting sick from the time travel that we had figured out the “sickness.”  But after seeing how Robert duped Danielle then almost killed her I’m questioning what sickness they had.  Danielle indicates it was something infecting them down Smokey’s hole.  We haven’t seen any of the Losties go down there yet so perhaps we are going to see a whole new “sickness” we didn’t expect.  Perhaps the Others had the anticdote to whatever it is (remember the injections that Desmond was taking and that they were giving Claire?  We never have really gotten a satisfactory answer to what that was.)  Perhaps next season they will go down Smokey’s hole and get sick and Juliet will save the day with the injections.

4.  I’m sorry guys but I can’t remember who pointed it out, but yes, Theresa is the name of Boone’s nanny that he said fell down the stairs when he was young.  Theresa is also the name of Ana Lucia’s mother, but I would think the more probable connection would be to the nanny.

5.  Black and white.  This has been a theme since season one (sorry, my brain is on overload looking back at what it all means and how it’s coming together).  Someone had a good point that Christian is not a manifestation of Jacob at all but they are two separate forces.  Could Christian be the black (bad) and Jacob is the white (good)?  Why does Jacob need Locke to help him?  The ashes around his cabin are probably to keep out the evil (Christian).  An ancient rivalry perhaps (Widmore did say that the rivalry went back a looong way).  Could have started at the time of the four-toed statue or the Black Rock.

6.  Remember how Jack picks up his father’s body at the morgue?  Could Christian at that point have sacrificed his mortal body in order to return to the island (like what we think Locke is going to have to do)?
jacksdad.jpg   Click to enlarge
7.  When we saw Dan at the construction site of the Orchid, could that have been when he traveled back to warn a young Charlotte not to return to the island?  Perhaps the had to live there for awhile in order to get close to her as a child.  Perhaps he was also there to keep them from digging into where Jughead was buried.  Charlotte just remembers now that Dan (the crazy man) told her not to come back to the island, like when Desmond woke up with the “new” memory of Dan telling him to find his mother?
8.  In case you forgot about the obituary for Locke, here is the transcript.  Who is the teenage son they refer to?

The body of Jeremy Bentham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim’s loft. Concerned for tenants’ safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Bentham is survived by one teenaged son. 9.   Opening with a close up of Sun’s eyes (well, her face but the closest we have had to the old opening technique of a close up on someone’s eye)

10.  Translation, “I’m going to kidnap Aaron so he’ll be safe and bring him back to be raised as your brother.  I have to do it since Kate is such a whiner and can’t do it herself.”

11.  Here are the best screencaps I could get of Smokey.  The scenes move so fast it’s hard to get a clear shot, but I don’t see anything new.

12.  To go along with my theory that they are jumping to very specific places… Jin stops Danielle from going down the Smokey hole because of her baby.  Had Jin not been there she would have followed them and could have potenially been infected with the “sickness.”  Not necessarily course correction, but just keeping the course… on course.

13.The Temple doesn’t look so much like a temple but more like a wall left from what used to be a temple.  I wonder if what is on the other side is what Danielle has referred to in the past as “the dark territory.”

14.   Montaud’s arm.  The same arm we see Vincent bringing back to camp in 3 X 12?

15. I think that the sound that they hear before they flash sounds just like what we used to hear right before we used to see a flash back/forward.  A simple device used by the producers to indicate time change.

16.   Could Charlotte be the child of Ben and Annie?  They moved away and her mother wanted her to believe it was all a dream.  Maybe Annie was in hiding from Ben and couldn’t have Charlotte talking about the island in case it could lead Ben to them.

17.Is it just a coincidence that Locke says to Miles, “I’ll see you when I get back.”  Miles can talk to dead people.  Locke knows he has to die to come back and Miles is capable of talking to dead people.  On a side note, I really want to know when Miles will start talking to Jacob.

18.  The light at the end of the tunnel for Locke.  Interesting imagery.  Looks like that would have been one heck of a fall for him.

19.   Christian meets John under the well to correct the course since Locke was supposed to move the wheel, not Ben.  He can’t help John up because he has to do it himself without any help or it won’t work.

Initial Thougths: This Place Is Death

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

I really wanted a two hour episode tonight.  It was so good.  This season has been spectacular so far.  Can you imagine if we had to put up with re-runs while they are building this momentum?  I, for one, am willing to wait the extra time if we don’t have to suffer through re-runs.

1.  Opening on Sun’s eyes.  We haven’t seen the opening on an eye yet this season.

2.  Is Sun planning on kidnapping Aaron?  Why would she tell Ji Yeon she met a new friend for her in America unless she was planning on them meeting soon?

3.  You can hear the numbers on the walkie talkie that Robert has.  I’m wondering if it was Lenny talking… before he left the island.

4.  Cute, the (blonde, jerky crew member ) says, “Next you’ll be talking about submarines…”

5.  Jin seems moved watching how Robert treats pregnant Danielle.  His heart must be breaking knowing that his wife left preggers.

6.   Finally, we get to see a little bit of The Temple…. and Smokey lives there!  Did you catch the hieroglyphs on the side, just like what was on the counter in the hatch right before it blew up?  I wanted to see what was there, darn time shifts.  I can’t wait to screencap Smokey this week.  And Robert wants to go down the hole to help since they don’t leave anyone behind.  Sounds like another hero we know, Jack.

7.  Next Jin comes across Danielle and her crew, mostly dead.  And Robert wants to kill Danielle!  Almost like he was dead and Smokey took over his body.  Like Yemi when he meets Eko way back when.  I’m not so sure now that it was the time travel sickness that takes over Danielle’s crew.  Robert wasn’t acting like he was brain fried, he seemed possessed.  Danielle seems to think that he was “infected” when he chased Smokey down the hole.

8.  Jin finds Danielle by following the smoke.  Remember that Danielle was following the smoke when she kidnapped Claire’s baby and was taking him to the Others?  There *has* to be a connection.

9.  And why does the Temple need a security system?

10.   It was cool to see that Sawyer was so happy to see Jin.  Genuine happiness out of Sawyer!  Thank goodness someone gets to explain to Jin what is going on.

11.  Finally, someone seems confused why Locke would want to bring someone back.  Jin doesn’t want Sun back there.

12.  Ben tells Sun that he just needs 30 minutes and he can prove Jin is alive.  How is Eloise going to prove it to her?  I doubt the ring alone will convince her.  Why would she just take Ben’s word for it?  And if Locke wakes up he’ll tell her that Jin is dead since that was his promise and we know that Locke is a man of his word!

13. Charlotte was talking and acting like Teresa (the woman back in England who’s brain was fried by Daniel first).  She was popping in and out of time and different ages.  I like that we know that she was there before and why she was so adamant about getting back.  But I was really surprised they killed her off.  I think we know that Dan must travel back and tell her not to come back.  But he’s breaking one of the “rules” by doing this.  Love sure has a funny way of making you do crazy things.

14. Seems Charlotte is a fan of the Jeronimo Jackson.

15.  Dan says that as far as bringing the O6 back that is where they leave science behind.  Meaning?  Meaning that they don’t have to bring them back?

16.  NO! Sawyer has a nosebleed!

17.  Charlotte also knows that the well is by The Orchid station.  Maybe when she was a kid she spent some time there.

18.  Shouldn’t they have left Dan with some type of protection, like a gun?  They’ve seen how the Hostiles can be so they really should have given his something.  And where are Rose, Bernard and Vincent?

19.  Locke descending down the well was interesting imagery.  At first I was thinking of when they were lowering Kate down the hatch but my sister pointed out it was like a birth canal.  Maybe also like death… you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

20.   Juliet thanks Locke “if whatever you’re attempting to do works.”  We have been too trusting of her.  She knows stuff.  She was an Other.  I think we’ll be seeing more of what little miss Juliet knows in the coming epis.

21.  If they don’t bury Charlotte will Smokey be able to move her around like the other dead people from the island?

22.  I think we see now that whatever they are holding they take with them when they travel.  Sawyer is still holding the rope when Locke is going down the well and the time changes.

23.   I don’t think Christian is Jacob.  I think Jacob somehow embodies him or can take over any dead body that isn’t buried on the island.  But he does know about Jack when he tells Locke to tell his son he said hello.  Christian/Jacob can’t help Locke up so I assume that’s because he’s not physically there, but not sure yet how that works.  Projecting somehow perhaps?
24.  Why does Locke have to die to turn the wheel and why is he always hurting his legs?  Ben didn’t die when he turned it.  And Christian/Jacob seemed pretty perturbed that it wasn’t Locke that turned the wheel.  Locke does take shortcuts though, like when he let Sawyer kill his dad for him.  But, if Christian/Jacob wanted Locke to turn the wheel, I think somehow Ben knew this but did it himself for another reason.  Remember, Ben always has a plan!

25.   Ben actually looks surprised when Desmond shows up and says he’s looking for Dan’s mom.  I don’t think he knew!  Or, he never thought anyone would else would figure that piece out.

26.  I don’t think Eloise is really OK with just the two of the O6 there.  She probably will send her other people to help round them up.

27.  Wouldn’t Desmond just be absolutely freaked out seeing Elosie?  He HAS to remember that she’s the one that sent him to the island and taught him about course correction.

28.  I saw Jack jumping in the water in next week’s epi so we know at least he is there.
