Rose and Bernard - The beginning of the end?

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

I have a theory.  In this theory Rose and Bernard have just shown us the path to the rest of this show and the ending.  Here is where I see Lost ending….

In the book “The Lost Chronicles” JJ Abrams states (and I paraphrase here from memory) that this show will end.  They will not leave us hanging (of course, unless they jump the shark and ABC decides to kill it).  We will see what happens to the survivors.

Rose does not want to leave the island.  Much like Locke, she has found her peace, her Garden of Eden if you will.  Now that Bernard knows the WHY he is also OK with never leaving this island.  The stage is now set.

Sun … she is now pregnant.  A miracle.  Will she want to leave?  Will Jin want to go knowing that he wants this family so badly, he certainly doesn’t want to go back and face Sun’s father so why not settle here?

Claire.  She was warned that Aaron should and cannot be raised by another.  We know she doesn’t get along with her mother and Thomas (baby-daddy) doesn’t want anything to do with her.  What does she have to go back to?  Add the relationship with Charlie back to the equation and neither of them will want to leave.

Eko.  Building a new life as the priest.  Knows now the fate of his brother.  Maybe he will find his life here.

Hurley.  Hello??? Libby and Darmalars.  Need I say more?

Locke.  This is a given.  He is out of the wheelchair and is The Great White Hunter (to quote Charlie).  What does he have to go back to?  Helen is gone.  His dad betrayed him.  His mom is nuts.  He will be the pride of the pack here on the island.

At this point in the story we could argue that the rest of the characters that I haven’t mentioned have plenty of reasons to return home.  But we only know some of their past.  We didn’t know even one little bit about Rose last week and now we know that she will never leave the island.  Who knows what other revelations we might encounter over the next season or so.

So here is how I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see Lost close.

A Coast Guard ship spots the island.  The survivors see it coming.  As the boat approaches the shore the survivors are hiding in the trees, watching.  The soldiers on the boat are searching.  Maybe they see some of the remaining fuselage down the shore.

No one is coming out from the trees.  Their hearts are beating fast, pupils dialated, palms are sweaty, yet no one moves out.  Minutes go by, maybe a soldier steps ashore.  Stillness.

Vincent comes bounding out from the trees.  He’s Sawyer’s dog now.  He is Sawyer’s companion (maybe he’s the only one who can stand him or he hasn’t isolated himself from).  Long pause.  Sawyer steps out from the trees.  Sawyer cannot stay here.  His life is the con and he craves it back.  Sawyer now looks like one of the so-called “Others” we have gotten to know.

The soldier is surprised and pulls his gun.  Sawyer puts up his hands and in his suave way calms him and explains who he is.  The soldier asks where everyone else is.  Sawyer pauses.  A long, long, thoughtful pause.  He is waiting to see if anyone else emerges.  Nothing.  Sawyer states two words, “They died.”

Soldier, Sawyer and Vincent board the Coast Guard ship.  Sawyer doesn’t look back as the boat leaves but lifts his hand in adieu.

Like any great show, we don’t have all the answers in the end.  What we are left to speculate is how the survivors who are now left behind will live their remaining days here.  Will they become the illusive “Others” to anyone else landing here?  At this point our survivors will know all the secrets of the island and may carry out many of the same actions we are now seeing from the current “Others.”  Nothing is told.  We just have to sit ….. and wonder.

THE END.

lost dave3.jpg

“Dude, I’m an amalgam.”

1. Dave is not real. If he were real, he would have a shadow, which he does indeed not. Unless he is a vampire then I would need to revise this idea, but since everybody knows that vampires aren’t real (duh) then he must just be a figment of Hurley’s overstuffed mind. Also, Dave’s appearances are much like those in the Sixth Sense. He walks around and talks to people, but if you watch the episode back the only two people that have any interaction with Dave are Hurley and Dr. Brooks. When they are at the basketball game Dave is yelling and waving his arms, but no one responds to him and in fact they throw the ball to Hurley. Also, don’t forget that Hurley saw the big chicken and Jin speaking English in the pantry. Hallucinations seem to be coorelated to the food.
lost hurley pix.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

2. Libby. Let’s discuss why a “hot chick” (Hurley’s words, not mine) would like him. Is she a crazy stalker? The story about Jin seeing Hurley on the ledge (thus, how she found him) sounded pretty bogus. Plus the scary pix of her at the end watching him at the institution. Libby seems cuckoo for Hurley puffs. However, let me refer again to the idea that twins are playing somehow into the story (suggestion of Josh Holloway not mine). Yes, I can tell you are rolling your eyes at this point but bear with me. Is it possible that Libby in the loony bin is a different person that the Libby on the island, maybe her twin? The ladies will understand this, but if her hair were naturally brown (pre island) then if she colored her hair blonde (post island “do”) wouldn’t her roots have been showing by now? Unless Sawyer has some hair dye along with the pregnancy test this is a different chick.
lost libby in hospital1.jpg lost libby.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

3. Isn’t it ironic that the *only* food left from the drop that wasn’t scavenged by the survivors were the fish crackers? They have to eat all that fish for months and these crackers get dropped to them. Maybe it’s a psychological thing, kind of like the last jelly donut that no one wants to eat even though nothing is wrong with it.
lost fish crackers.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

4. OK, so check out the flowers around Hurley as he follows Dave. It’s just a weird, out-of-place item. Remember the field of flowers in the Wizard of Oz? They put them all, except the Scarecrow, to sleep. Not sure where I’m going with this but perhaps they are poppies or something with hallucinogenic properties. Thoughts? Do you think they’re just a pretty prop? A clue to viewers that he is hallucinating?
lost hurley flowers.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

5. We have the issue of the cliffs again. I’m going to do a post this summer and list of the references to cliffs over the past two seasons, but for now I just want to point it out. Seems we’ve had a few mishaps and near mishaps on the cliffs.
lost hurley dave.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

6. Why does Hurley refer to himself as “sick?” He hasn’t seen Dave at this time and he means his food addiction. These are the words that are also on the mural, if you recall. Thoughts? Is he thinking that since his food addiction is back that he knows his “Dave” fantasy will also return?

7. Check out Dave’s hand. We think that there is something on his hand (a code, perhaps, or a cheat sheet of info to feed to Hurley?) but it also could be dirt. I wondered briefly if someone “is” on the island and it talking to Hurley, but it is not Dave. Could be someone who looks like Dave that maybe is playing the role and Hurley is projecting his visual image of Dave onto him?
lost hurley hand2.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

8. I think that the whole point of Dave telling Hurley that he is still in the institution and that all of the “events” that Hurley thinks brought him here, including the numbers, aren’t just a coincidence are the writers way of telling us, the viewers, that we are not going to find out in the end that this was all some type of dream or hallucination. I don’t think it’s a red herring at all, just them telling us to trust them that the events are “real,” or at least real in the sense a tv show is real.

9. It was weird when Dave jumped off of the cliff. He makes a splash in the water and we can see him until the end. Figures that Libby wouldn’t come up in time to see if there was a person with Hurley or not.
lost dave splash2.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

lost dave jump21.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

10. Hurley talks about the “accident.” Remember Widmore Construction? Wouldn’t it be interesting if they built the platform that Hurley broke? So when we meet Hurley at the hospital it had been 2 months since the accident, 23 people were on it and it was only built for 8. I’m thinking that we are also going to find out that one of the 2 people that died are somehow related to another survivor.

11. I hope that the survivors thought to take the flashing light off of the food to either use as a signal on the beach or could come in handy if another raft is built.

12. Check out this audio clip. Someone at the Fuselage recorded the sound from the jungle, right before Hurley attacks Sawyer and played it backwards. Weird!

13. Of course no one was going to help when Hurley attacked Sawyer. I think that Sawyer likes this role that he has set up for himself as the outsider, yet needed for all the “goods” he keeps.
lost laugh at sawyer.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

14. To debunk a rumor going around the internet, I could not find an airplane in this picture. This is the picture that is hanging in Dr Brooks’ office (Hurley’s doctor).
lost hurley dr pix in office.jpg Click picture to enlarge.

15. Henry. lost henry tied up.jpg This so seems like religious symbolism. Like the image of Christ on the cross. But, if that *is* the image that the producers are sending, why? Christ was misunderstood but withstood the torture for what he believed was his purpose. Seems like shaky ground considering the conservative culture in America. But, this image does seem powerful for this character and where they are taking him (the writers, I mean).

16. Henry tells Locke that God doesn’t know the island is there any more than anyone else in the world. Can the magnetism coming from the island be blocking radar much the way it throws off a compass? Henry says this place is a joke. Could Henry be someone who has been through the stations as an experiment (like Desmond) and that this hatch is insignificant in the grander scheme? Could he be duping Locke so that he will let the timer run out to get another peek at the secret map?

17. Is it at ALL possible that pseudo Henry is HIM? Wizard of Oz clues could lead us to believe it. We are to think that there is the great and powerful Oz (aka HIM) but it turns out *just* to be a man. Henry is just so crafty at this game he is playing that you have to wonder who he really is. What was his purpose in being caught? Why is he aligning himself with Locke? Why didn’t he leave when he had the chance? What was he really up to when the hatch went dark.

18. The note on the $20 bill. Seems like Sayid really got him with this one. However, maybe not. Maybe Henry and The Others figured that the search party from the survivors would dig him up and this item is just a red herring to them. Or maybe it is meant to throw them off what is really going on there. Seems like nothing on this show turns out to just simply be “what it is” on the surface.
lost sayid2 20.jpg lost sayid 20.jpgClick either picture to enlarge.

19. Once Michael shows back up (yes, he IS coming back…see my Upcoming Episodes page), could he possibly fix the real Henry’s balloon to get off of the island? Michael is the construction guy and if he gets Walt back he is for sure, 100%, going to want to run like crazy.

20. How did Henry know who the “bearded man” was? When Locke comes into the armory to chat he asks if the bearded man is HIM. Henry responds by telling Locke that he is “no one.” So how does Henry know who Locke is even talking about if he isn’t part of Zeke’s group?

21. Libby says to Hurley on the beach that “it’s like the island doesn’t want you to lose weight.” What a strange thing to say, very Locke-esque.

22. Santa Rosa is the same mental institution that Locke’s mom was in. We learned this when Locke hired the private investigator.

23. I was happy that the producers answered the question about why they never showed the caves anymore. Seems according to Hurley that no one lives there anymore.

24. What is Eko building? You can take this for whatever you would like. Read the diary entries from the ABC website, but I have read that whoever writes these (in real life) is not affiliated with the writers of the show so I don’t know if this is real or not, but since it *is* at ABC’s website so it may also be right on.

25. Ah, love. Get a room!

26. One more thing, another Desmond throw back. Right before Dave jumps off the cliff he tells Hurley “See you in another life.” This is the same thing Desmond said to Jack when they met on the stairs back in The States.

Spoiler!

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Do not read this post if you don’t want to be spoiled, well, come on, you know what I mean … spoiled from a Lost fan perspective!

See the picture below:
lost dave 5.jpg
Recognize this woman?

It’s Libby! She has dark hair and looks crazy, but hello! This is from the upcoming epi “Dave” that is Hurley centric. Guess we know now how Hurley knows Libby, she apparently was a patient the same time as he was. Weird. Stalker chick maybe?

Anyway, from what I’ve read this pix was not supposed to be released yet…. Guess I’ll watch her from a different perspective now. Unless this is Libby’s evil twin? :)

Maternity Leave … Deel Twee

Monday, March 6th, 2006

For the record, Deel Twee is “Part Two” in Dutch. It just sounds cool… I think.

Also, my Scott gave me a program to capture screen shots so now I can use my own!

1. I think that the Others (from Claire’s new memory) are coming on and off of the island by an underground rail system. Listen carefully when Claire & Co. approach where the new hatch is. You hear what sounds like thunder. But, when has there been thunder before when it rained? Also, the *thunder* rolls on and on. I think that “if” there is thunder, there is also the sound of the rail system. This would also explain why Danielle says that when the Others are coming she sees black smoke. When the train is approaching the island it’s probably above ground and she sees the smoke from it.

2. I also maintain that they are doing some type of mining so they could also be using the rail system much in the way a coal mining company uses railways.

3. Vincent, get away from Hurley!

LOST-2x15-0195.jpg

4. The baby’s rash, real or red herring? Remember this guy?

lost rash guy.jpg   Click on image to enlarge

From Solitary 1 x 09:

SULLIVAN: Doc, what do you think this is, this, this, this, uh, rash. It’s bad, right, like some kind of a tropical disease?

JACK: It’s hives.

SULLIVAN: What’s that? Is that like poison ivy?

JACK: It’s a common rash, Sullivan; it’s brought on by heat and stress.

SULLIVAN: Okay.

JACK: Just try to relax; it’ll clear up.

SULLIVAN: Right.

JACK: Try to keep your mind off it.

SULLIVAN: Okay, [to Sun who has a poultice] What is that? Is it like aloe? Isn’t that for sunburn, or something?

HURLEY: Try to keep your mind off it? What else has that guy got to do but stress?

JACK: I’ve got enough on my plate without having to treat hypochondriacs.

This conversation adds to the ambiguity of the cause of the rash. If this guy had it clear back in Season One and just now the baby is getting a rash, we could assume that it is nothing. However, there could be an incubation period, especially if Ethan was injecting the baby with the virus.

5. The bottles that Ethan took out of the fridge to inject into the baby had the label of RX-1. Check out this thread from Fuselage.com:

“Basically it means Rx1 is a form of pneumonia which is not dangerous. Vaccines are injections of the same stuff that makes you sick but they - the bacteria - are either dead or inactive (like Rx1) and they’re injected into your body so that your immune system recognizes it and creates anti-bodies that remain in your body so it can fight the disease when you’re actually infected.”

6. Also, in the refrigerator, we see all sorts of other bottles. There is the greenish liquid we see injected into Claire, but I also see a pink, blue and clear liquid. Then, in the second pix below, we can see all sorts of other bottles, too. So I assume that Claire and the baby are not the only experiment going on here on the island. For instance, there was something in the water Ethan gave to Claire to keep her docile.

LOST-2x15-0474.jpg

LOST-2x15-0949.jpg

7. So if this is indeed a vaccination, can The Others be helping baby Aaron? Remember that Goodwin told Ana that the Others weren’t bad and Zeke told Jack that Walt was “just fine.” Maybe The Others are releasing some type of virus onto the island and they are protecting the children.

8. Danielle. Remember that she told Sayid in Season One that around two months when they were coming back from the Black Rock they ran into “Them” and they were the carriers of the virus. Well, they have been on the island for about two months and now she tells Claire that if the baby is sick, she knows what needs to be done. Which it appears she is telling Claire she must kill the baby since she says she killed her team.

9. I got a kick out of the Stephen King reference. I think this was just the writer’s way of “shouting out,” if you will, to the viewers. There is much talk out there that the show is following some type of pattern from The Dark Tower Series.

10. Claire’s flashback. First, I thought it interesting that we did not see the usual flashback. However, I wonder if Claire is crossing memories much like Libby told her could happen. She went as far as to tell Danielle she wanted Ethan to have the baby so he would be safe. The psychic told Claire she had to send the baby to the couple in LA so he would be safe. We haven’t seen the conversation she had with the first adoptive family, but I would think that it was similar to some of the dialog she had with Ethan. Also, this screen shot has Claire now and Claire then in the same shot. I don’t remember seeing this type of shot before in this show, which makes me think that this is just a visualization of the concept of Claire mixing her memories.

LOST-2x15-0793.jpg   Click on image to enlarge

11. Con. Ethan conned Claire much in the way Sawyer described the way he cons women. Ethan put it into her mind that it was her idea that they should keep the baby. She trusted him enough to even let him feel the baby kick. It was almost as if he had feelings for her, also. Ethan told Claire that he was going to miss her when she was gone. Weird. Crossover memory, perhaps?

12. So we know the guy outside the door was Zeke. But who is the “him” he is referring to? Hanso? Candle? Is it the same “Him” that Desmond referred to (Are you Him?)?

LOST-2x15-0556.jpg   Click on image to enlarge

13. Smoke and mirrors. Much like the Wizard of Oz, we find out that things are not what they seem. We know that this set of Others are putting on disguises for our survivors. But why? I think that they are doing it to keep the survivors under their control, keep them afraid of the monster in the woods, if you will. If The Others have drawn a boundary or a line in the sand, it keeps the survivors in a certain territory on the island and probably in an area that is set up with listening devices as well as speakers (remember the whispers).

 LOST-2x15-0907.jpg      LOST-2x15-0909.jpg

14. The new hatch observations. My first reaction to this hatch is the obvious, the way it looks which is very different that the Swan. Primarily, what we see is a hall with a few doors but the edges of the hall are rounded, why? Could this be like what they did in the X-Files that they had a car where they were doing their medical experiments? This goes along with my rail theory.

LOST-2x15-0496.jpg
15. So where did the hallway lead to that Ethan passes with Claire? Was it the way out (the hall that Kate & Co. entered the hatch through)?

LOST-2x15-0503.jpg

16. What happened at the hatch? The main hallway looks like there was something earth moving that ransacked the place with the wires hanging down. I am thinking that maybe when Locke didn’t press the button at “0″ that some type of reaction did start to happen. Maybe it shook the ground hard enough to kick up dust (thus the outlines on the wall where the animals were in the nursery) and would also explain the refrigerator being knocked over and the wires hanging down from the ceiling. The other option is that the hatch has been there so long and that is why the outlines were on the wall and maybe a different set of Others (the children, perhaps) attacked them and when they found that they were gone, tore the place apart.

LOST-2x15-0861.jpg

17. Lastly, what is the Escape Hatch? If the entrance Ethan leads Claire away from is the way out, why have an Escape Hatch? Could it just be that they are in an old rail car and this is left over? Could they even be in a completely different hatch that Claire was taken to? When they come back to the hatch, where is the Escape door? I couldn’t see it in the screen caps. This would explain why the place looks so torn apart because it is indeed NOT where Claire was taken.

LOST-2x15-0500.jpg

18. I saw five people in the “surgery” room. There is talk on the internet that the man sitting who is looking at the camera is Henry. I have made the pix bigger but cannot tell if it is him. But I do still contend that Jack’s dad is alive and that he is part of this team. I don’t think that he died in Australia, but rather, it was an elaborate set up so that people back home would think that he was dead so he could go on to the Hanso project. What did Jack’s dad have left back home once his license was stripped from him? And why oh why if they are getting ready to perform a surgery and they are in surgery garb is the DOOR OPEN!!!??? Is this another con? Do they want her to see this? Is that why the man on the end looks out - to make sure she sees what is going on?
LOST-2x15-0936.jpg

19. The song that the airplane mobile was playing was the same song that Claire asked the adoptive family in season one to sing to the baby. She said that her dad used to sing it to her when she was young. “Catch A Falling Star.” Another crossover memory? How else would this happen?

20. Did you notice the picture in the nursery on the wall of the steamboat? Look familiar?

nursery pix.jpg

21. What about this. The reason that “HE” is so set on having a list is because this experiment has gone wrong and the plane was supposed to somehow land, not crash. Now the Others don’t know exactly who has survived and so that have to send in a mole to make this list. Everyone that is there is not necessarily supposed to be there and that is why some of them have died. That is why the “good ones” were taken as they are the ones that the Others want. Maybe those who have died where not wanted by the Others. If memory serves, Boone and Shannon were moved on the plane. I remember that Joanna (the girl who drown) was bumped onto this flight because of illness. Maybe the Others don’t want them there because they don’t need them.

22. I think that Eko is building a structure that we will not see until the end of the season. He (OBVIOUSLY) knows way more about the island that we think (Hello, his conversation with Henry?). He must know what they might need, OR he is just smart enough to know that they are not going to be rescued and that eventually they will need “real” shelter outside of their tents. I sure hope that he’s not building a church. That for one is too obvious and two, I believe in the separation of Church and Lost….

LOST-2x15-0381.jpg   Click on image to enlarge

LOST-2x15-0375.jpg   Click on image to enlarge
23. There is a distinct alarm going off in the background when Claire has escaped Ethan and the gang and we can see them coming for her. Would they have an alarm on the door?

24. I’m still on the fence over Henry and his Otherness. It seems even more obvious from Eko’s confession and Henry’s manipulation of Locke that he is truly an Other, but I take issue with the fact that the writers are spoon-feeding us this info. I’m just suspicious.

LOST-2x15-1223.jpg Click on image to enlarge

LOST-2x15-1303.jpg   Click on image to enlarge

25. Is this Alex? I can tell you that it is supposed to be Sawyer who finds her in the jungle (visions of the girl coming back to the hatch and Sawyer being there to scavenge) and he convinces her to join them. Again, could be a red herring or she could be a mole. Planted to make Claire think that she saved her.

LOST-2x15-0923.jpg

26. Why was the bootie left behind?

LOST-2x15-0914.jpg

27. I like this visual. It reminded me of when Locke and Jack were first looking down the hatch with Desmond.

Lost Hall Of Shame Part 1

Monday, December 5th, 2005

I wonder if we’ll see more of this? Maybe they had to drink away the agony and wonder of Flash Forwards! HA!

Two ‘Lost’ stars arrested
Rodriguez, Watros charged in separate incidents
Friday, December 2, 2005; Posted: 10:48 a.m. EST (15:48 GMT)
HONOLULU, Hawaii (AP) — Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros, who star on ABC’s “Lost,” were arrested within 15 minutes of each other in Kailua for allegedly driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Both failed field sobriety tests and were released Thursday on $500 bail each, police said. The actresses, who were in separate cars, were arrested after their vehicles were spotted weaving on Pali Highway, which connects Kailua and Honolulu, police said.

Watros, who portrays Libby on “Lost,” was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Rodriguez, who plays Ana Lucia, was arrested at 12:20 a.m., according to police records. Rodriguez was booked under the name Mayte Michelle Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 27, and Watros, 37, were to appear at a driver’s license revocation hearing at Kaneohe District Court on December 29, police records showed.Motorists arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant automatically have their driver’s licenses revoked. They are given a temporary license that allows them to drive, but under several restrictions.

Lost for 48 days …

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

The episode aired on Wed. and at first my excuse was that I was tired. Here it is SUNDAY and I am still obsessing and reading about various ideas and observations. I have formally decided that I cannot possibly find everything about The Other 48 Days. So here are some of my thoughts…

1. I found it interesting that the producers labeled the days for us. Why? They have been evasive so far about creating ANY type of timeline, why give us one now? Are they trying to create a parallel for us between the ways the two groups organized themselves during this time? I just don’t see the point in doing this now.
2. Libby says on day one that she went through a year of med school. Why tell us this? Because the producers know that we are out there going, “Hey, we already know she is a psychologist, how does she know how to dress a wound?” Or are we going to see a possible crossover with Jack?
3. Remember the guy who Libby fixes his leg? His RIGHT leg? (Recurring theme, for those of you who haven’t been in all of my other threads).
4. Where did the chicken come from? We have seen boar (makes sense on an island), polar bears (exotic, possible talk of a circus plane crashing on island), but a chicken? A domestic animal? Cluckety Cluck!
5. Poor Canada … getting such a bad rap on this show. Ethan said he was Canadian. Nathan says he was too. Libby says something about being in Canada for a company retreat.
6. We still don’t know who gave Nathan the banana when he was in the hole. We are led to believe it was Eko because he doesn’t want to see him starve, but we don’t know. And where did the banana come from? This was on day 23 so wouldn’t a banana on the flight be looking pretty brown by now? If you left bananas on your counter just sitting there for 23 days they would be brown, let alone through a plane crash and tossed around on an island.
7. I am sure everyone saw the door to the tailies hatch said “Quarantine.”
8. The box they find in the hatch. Seems like the items in the box were more military-esque than what we saw in Desmond’s compound. Blankets, a bible, a glass eye (HUH?), and a radio. Why a radio? Desmond didn’t have one (that we know of). Is this where the Army knife came in? I don’t suspect much about the knife right now because anyone can go to Army surplus stores.
9. The glass eye. The only theory I have, and I found this on thefuselage.com, is that it belongs to Marvin Crandle. BUT, we have seen many episodes start with an eye so maybe it is just a token to those on the island from whoever has put them there. Much like some people would carry a cross, a Buddha, a troll doll. Just kidding. Plus, speaking of eyes, there is much speculation out there that Eko was blind before the crash. Much like Locke, he found something mystical and healing on the island.
10. I have seen SO FREAKING much out there on all of the religious symbolism of 40. Here are a few: God gave Moses a staff and he was on an exodus through the desert for 40 years. Mr. Eko carries a staff, he did not speak for 40 days, Eko (or I have seen EK) is the biblical abbreviation for Exodus. The 40 days of Lent are a significant period. Noah floated in his ark for 40 days and nights; the chosen people wandered in the desert for 40 years, Jonah led the citizens of Nineveh through 40 days of penance. In the Eastern Orthodox Church when someone dies you mourn for 40 days also. Was Eko not speaking in honor of those that died? 40 days is also when it used to be considered that a soul enters a fetus in pagan religions…. Moses fasted for 40 days before receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness in preparation for his ministry. Allah, the Most Exalted, the Most Glorified, has stated this fact in the Qur’aan: During the first 40 days of gestation, all the body parts and organs are completely, though consecutively, formed.
11. The magic bullet theory. JFK conspirators take note! We have witnessed another instance of a single magic bullet! How could Ana Lucia POSSIBLY have shot Shannon? MAYBE you could have convinced me at the end of last weeks show, but now that I have seen the previews for next week, I cannot accept that one bullet shoots Shannon and then goes on to shoot a warning shot at Sayid. Do we see the shot actually come from Ana Lucia? We DO when she shoots at Sayid in the preview but never when Shannon is “shot.” Maybe Sawyer comes out of his near death state to tell everyone that there was only one bullet, in essence saving her from being an outcast from the group, even as much as he seems to hate her. But, Michael did know that there was only one bullet because he and Sawyer have the discussion on the raft and again when they are in the hole.
12. Also, on this note, if you pause the scene where she supposedly shoots Shannon you can see a bloody knife stuck in a tree. Could Shannon have been stabbed first?
13. Black and White. We see this theme again. Bernard and Rose. Locke and Eko (who, from reading about upcoming episodes, befriend one another).
14. I need to go back and watch this, but it is being said that when the tailies find their hatch you can see the radio tower behind the hatch.
15. Why didn’t the tailies hear any whispers before they went to the other side of the island? Why didn’t they see the smoke? What about the “monster” and the rain? They didn’t know that the whispers meant the others were near, but Sayid did because he has heard them before (remember his quest when he found Danielle?). Could it be much like we have two groups from Flight 815 that there are two groups of “others?” Yes, the “others” did attack our group, much like they did to the tailies. But the “others” killed the original group members because they wanted Claire back. The “others” that attacked the tailies did not kill, they just took the people.
The conversation with Goodwin and Ana Lucia was also very interesting. When she asks him why the “others” would keep attacking them if they were good, he states that maybe they aren’t attacking them. I wondered last season if when they took Walt they were taking him somewhere to “protect him” from the sickness, perhaps? Goodwin also states that they are choosing whom to take because they are Good. Does that mean that our original group is not good, except for Claire and Walt?
16. I saw the way the tailies landed on the island as a type of baptism in the water. Just symbolism.
17. It makes sense that Bernard strapped himself in when he was going to the restroom. But, how did he end up in tact, still strapped in, in his seat after the crash? The rest were thrown and in the water.
18. If Nathan was not an Other, what WAS he doing out in the woods for 2 hours? WAS he an Other? Maybe Goodwin knew that Nathan would have hurt Ana Lucia and he was in some weird way protecting her? He did seem to be a little flirty with her. Or, maybe Goodwin was worried that if Ana Lucia cut off his finger that Nathan would rat him out as well as tell all of their secrets, including where the children were?
