Lost gets the snub

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

You could chalk this up to Hollywood politics, but I don’t get why Lost well, lost out in so many important categories.  You will say “wha…” when you read this too.

Lost gets Snowed – 2006 Emmy Nominations

Source: About.com

So the Emmy nominations are out, and hello?, does anyone from the TV Academy remember that little show called Lost that won six Emmys last year? This years nominations:

* Outstanding Drama Series – They forgot to add the best show EVER! I mean, come on, people, Lost won last year and this year not even a nomination?
* Outstanding Lead Actor In a Drama – They skipped right over the Lost actors
* Outstanding Lead Actress – Does anyone else hear the crickets?
* Supporting Actor/Actress – More crickets
* Guest Actress – Nothing

Here’s some nominations they got right:

* Outstanding Guest Actor – All right, Brotha, now we’re getting somewhere. Henry Ian Cusick was nominated for his role as Desmond
* Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – They are darn lucky that they nominated Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof or they would have heard from me! The two were nominated for writing The 23rd Psalm.
* Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series – Jack Bender for Live Together, Die Alone

Other nominations for Lost include:

* Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series
* Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series
* Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series (2)
* Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing For A Series
* Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series – Well I would hope so! Sheesh!

Here’s what Lost fan John Fischer says, and I have to agree:

Are you kidding me? From its huge haul last year to a shutout this year. How can the TV Academy not nominate the show that won Best Drama last year? ABC really got screwed. Desperate Housewives was also ignored. The new voting system was supposed to help shows on the smaller networks, but still no Lauren Graham, no Battlestar Galactica… This is disgraceful.

I hope they “lose” this idea!

I’m thinking X-Files.  Anyone else?

Lost to Be Turned Into a Movie?

Source: CelebritySpider.com

The makers of Lost want to end the hit TV show after a maximum of five years and are planning a feature-length movie spin-off.

Co-creator Damon Lindelof is so worried producers and studio executives will drag the show out he is making his opinion on the matter clear now.

He says, “We’d love to end the show after four year, five years tops and do a movie.”

Toys for my wish list!

These action figures are a must for my collection (Scott, are you listening?).  Remember that movie with Arnold where he was literally battling other parents to get his son that toy?  I wonder if it will be like that to get these?  I can’t imagine going head-to-head with some of the WalMart shoppers I’ve seen.  I think I could lose an eye or perhaps a vital organ.

Here is a link to a pretty good story with details about the action figures.  I can’t say that I am excited that they will talk.  I guess they have limited articulation, too, but I won’t know that because I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to convince myself to take them out of the boxes (“if” I can get them, that is).

Better late than … reruns!

Friday, June 9th, 2006

Season Three of Lost is set to start of October 4, 2006. It sucks that the season seems to be starting so late, but considering the fact that there will be absolutely no reruns to interrupt the momentum of the show, I’ll take it!

I still continue to read conflicting stories of the exact number of episodes that each 1/2 of Lost will be broken in to, but for all intents and purposes, they will run a shorter number in the Fall/Winter and then a longer stretch from Spring to the season end. This also allows for double story arcs, which I for one am very excited about.

The latest report that I saw has Lost running 7 episodes then picking back up in January or February with 18 episodes.

They like us, they really really like us!

Allrighty re-run haters, they listened!!!  Check it out:

No Repeats for ‘Lost’
ABC responds to fan complaints and will air next season’s “Lost” episodes consecutively, without repeats.

NEW YORK — Did you feel the earth moving as Steve McPherson announced to the television world this morning that Dr. McDreamy and company are moving to Thursday nights next fall? Then, as if that bit of news for “Grey’s Anatomy” die-hards wasn’t enough, McPherson, ABC’s president of prime-time entertainment, laid one out for the “Lost” legion: No more repeats.

“Lost” will return in the fall with seven original episodes, and then go on hiatus until January or February, when it will return to the Wednesday night schedule with original episodes until May.

When it comes to “Lost,” it’s all about listening to the fans, McPherson said. “Lost” will stay in its current Wednesday time slot and run for seven episodes in the fall. Then ABC will launch “Day Break,” starring Taye Diggs as a detective who literally lives the same day over and over — and it’s a bad one — for 13 weeks.

“‘Lost’ is a show people really love. They make an appointment for [it],” McPherson said. “They absolutely just get furious when it’s in repeat. So we want to be able to say to the audience, it’s going to be on for this block here — then bring it back and it will run straight through.”

The show’s executive producers, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, said today that they’re excited about the new schedule and will design the third season around the new airtime order.

“Our audience was incredibly frustrated with repeats,” Cuse wrote in an e-mail. “Now when ‘Lost’ is on, it’s on. And, the audience doesn’t have to wait all the way until the spring for the show to return, which given the cliffhanger nature of our finale would be too long.”

The new non-repeat schedule “allows us to really keep the momentum of our particular type of storytelling,” he added.

Are the Producer’s “PADD?” (Producers Against Drunk Driving)

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

All right, so there seems to be loads of chatter regarding “did they” or “didn’t they” kill off the two stars that *ironically* were arrested for drunk driving?

The answer is no.

Watros’ [Libby] impending departure was first hinted at last month, after it was announced that the actress had signed on opposite Tom Cavanagh for the CBS sitcom pilot My Ex-Life. She was initially described as “guest star,” but sources indicated that was a ruse to keep from spoiling the Lost storyline.

Rodriguez also tried to put to rest the rumors that the show’s writers were engaging in a little moral grandstanding by deep-sixing her, saying her contract was always meant to be for a year, no more.

“No, no, no, not at all,” she said, when asked if her offscreen troubles led to her onscreen demise. “I knew when I signed on.”

Two of the show’s executive producers, Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, seconded Rodriguez’s remarks in an interview with TVGuide.com.

“A lot of this is going to sound like spin, so all we can give you is our word that this is exactly what happened,” Lindelof said, reiterating that Ana-Lucia’s death had been plotted from the start.

So we know Ana is dead. She has been making the talk show rounds talking about it and “sticking to the story” that she knew from the start, but what about Libby?

I’m thinking that she is going to hang on long enough to tell the tale. She is still listed in this week’s epi in the cast so she must be going to make some sort of appearance.

Also, in the commercial we hear that “she is dead” not that “THEY are dead.” But if Libby has a part on an upcoming new series, I would say it’s a safe bet that she is a goner.

(My) Scott also made a good point.  We see someone holding a Virgin Mary statue in the preview.  Locke said he was keeping them for “medicinal purposes.”  Killing pain perhaps of *someone* who was shot?

That leaves very few tailies. Coincidence?

He’s baaaack, too.

ASK AUSIELLO   April 19, 2006

Question: Please give me the best Lost spoiler that you can possibly think of!

Ausiello: Unfortunately, the best spoiler I can think of is something I’m not allowed to discuss. Would you settle for the second best? The two-hour finale is basically one big Desmond flashback.

What a whiner

I may have to rethink my prediction on who is going to be killed off next. Seems Mr. Mood Swing has issues with his work. These actors sure are arrogant complaining about their work on a HIT TV show!

ABC’s ‘Lost’ Star Naveen Andrews Predicts Short Run for Hit Show
——————————————————————————–

By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
Mar 22, 2006

“Lost’s” Naveen Andrews is looking over film prospects to do over hiatus time, but notes, “It all depends on whether the dates work around the series. When ABC owns you, they own you.

A short stint for ‘Lost?’

“I’d think they’d be loathe to let you off and do movies when they could be squeezing your life blood.

There’s a huge season finale May 7 to promote,” he adds.

The candid Andrews doesn’t foresee a long future for his hit mystery drama. “To me, it’s always been the kind of show I couldn’t imagine going as long as ‘Friends’ — three, maybe four season at the very most. Surely after the third season it really will be scraping bottom.”

He shrugs. “Maybe not.”

Andrews spent last hiatus in Morocco and Hungary making ABC’s lavish, brutal, non-traditional treatment of “The 10 Commandments,” which airs April 10 and 11, with Dougray Scott as Moses and Andrews as his Egyptian family member-turned-enemy, Menerith. He’s starting to feel the wear and tear.

“To be honest, I’ve only realized the way I’ve been working over the last three or four weeks. It’s starting to sink in that I didn’t take any time off last year. I might do that this time around. It’s a new thing for me to sustain a role for two years. The longest I played a part before was four months.”

Lost to run over this week.

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

In case you record the episodes, LOST is set to run from 9 – 10:05 this week. Check out the news link below. Maybe they are going to give us a few extra minutes each week to make up for all the reruns. Five minutes each week divided by the 42 minutes per episode (run time, without commercials) would take about 8 or so episodes to make up for one of the reruns…
