Wow such great comments. sorry to have missed out on them all until now! Will definitely want to touch on so many of these points. I guess we have the long, long hiatus until the show is back again in January to discuss it all. *sigh*

:( Intead of Lost, there's going to be a basket ball game on tonight where I live :(

Why couldn't it be on during Ugly Bety or Grey's Anatomy?

I just watched this episode again before tonight's new one. Someone earlier posted the comment about the DaliLama. There's a scene in a movie called Kundun that is almost identical to the Locke scene that identifies his reincarnation. I don't believe that Richard and Locke are being reincarnated, probably more towards time travel. But who knows if this is an allusion by the writers?

On another note, I'm pretty disappointed that the smoke monster drawing was so pointed out. In season 1 that would've been an easter egg! I guess they've lost faith in us!

@Foffman: Unfortunately, we've already seen Locke's mother's future, in his second flashback episode: "Deus Ex Machina". She was much older than "Ben's birth-era" Emily, who as we all know, is dead. Also, she kinda had reddish hair. So, unless it was an impostor a.k.a. dumb waste of plot, they were unrelated Emilys. I know, I was disappointed too (at the start of the episode I couldn't stop repeating "Locke and Ben are half-brothers! Holy shit!"), but we've honestly had enough of the "people on the island are really related" shtick.
I can't wait until we get to finally meet Jacob. There's so many theories, from Abbadon to future-Aaron, that it'll be an amazing moment to finally meet the man who's had such an influence on this show. (and just because I haven't shot down enough theories, here goes: Abbaddon is black, and Aaron has blue eyes, while the Jacob we've seen is a brown-haired Caucasian. You can never rule out shape-shifting, though.)

The island has twisted ways. :) I don´t know if they are the same person/soul, but with all this reecarnation thing circling, and plus, this Budalike test given to Locke, it seems that with little doubt (considering this is Lost we are talking about) reencarnation is on the table.

Can Ben and Locke share the same soul, one being consumed by darkness (Ben) and other still in the prossess of choosing what to become (Locke)? Can Ben be the serpent it self? (picking up GaryG´s idea os the island being Eden) Ben for shure seems to control people based on temptation.

One more thought, about the Budalike reencarnation test (if its really that).
The fact that Richard was apparently so disturbed by Locke´s result on the given test, by its choise of 3 objects, and the fact that apparently it was not a wrong answer, since "the island" still insisted for Locke´s presence, can this mean that Locke shares the soul of 3 persons connected to the island? I know this is a very long shot, and at the moment with the given clues there´s no way fot this to make sense. But if that was really a reencarnation test, then the choise of 3 objects must mean one of 2 things. 1st, locke gave a "wrong" answer, and in did he failed the test,

2nd or he gave the right one and he was, at some point of his existence, the 3 persons/souls.

All in all, Lost is for shure a mind blowing enigma, and we are all lucky to be here, on this earth, while it´s being broadcasted. ;D

(again, sorry if my english is too bad.)

Ehhh.... I looked it up.
Holland Roden plays Emily, Locke's mom. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0696387/
Carrie Preston plays Emily, Ben's mom. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1555699/
They don't look a whole lot alike. Maybe just a little bit, but if the writers want us to think it's the same person, then no offense, but they did a poor job casting that role (then again, GG, you noted that they did a terrible job casting a new young Walt for a recent episode).

Re: Foffman
Wow, I think you're right. Locke was raised in foster homes. If you remember Emily's Mother, Locke's grandmother's first question to the nurse was, "How do we give him up for addoption?" So who know's what happened to Emily after that. Ben's comment about getting Hurley to go with them in the woods to find the cabin suggest that Locke and Ben share the same ability to manipulate people. Although, God, Ben could certainly manipulate Locke. There's no way they should allow Locke and Ben to be together alone. Look at all the doubt Ben has caused Locke in the past. He set him against Jack, played with his mind about the button, got him to blow up the sub... Well, good catch.

Was Ben's mom really named Emily?
Although I have a hard time believing Ben and Locke are the same person, I'd love to entertain the idea of them being step-brothers! Gitsie, do you have inventory of all the screenshots you've done? Because if so, may I request side-by-side screenshots of Ben's mom and Locke's mom? (If that's not too much to ask, of course)
When they showed Locke as a boy (6 years old, maybe), the person who was taking care of him was certainly not his mom, because she was much older than young-20-something. This opens up the possibity that Locke's mom, after she ran away from the hospital (and we never saw her again), ran away to, say, Portland, where she may have been walking in the woods with Ben's dad, and we all know the rest of the story.
I hope that made sense, and I give credit to PHBZ for the idea.
Sure would be interesting, wouldn't it?
