Initial Thoughts: Jughead

OMG!!!! Tonight was AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC!!!
A couple of thoughts from last week. Hurley and Kate *just* miss each other at the gas station. This goes along with the idea of the show that everyone is connected somehow, like six degrees of separation. Or I saw a movie once and the whole time it followed an item as it got passed from person to person. I think it was Madonna’s pap smear but don’t quote me. Anyway, how we are all connected somehow.

I don’t really like the pop ups. Maybe I’m missing stuff, you tell me if you watch them. But it’s like ABC’s attempt to get new viewers up to speed. To me, I feel cheated somehow that newbs are getting catch ups and we’ve had to do four years of hard work. But, if it brings new viewers and ratings then that’s a good thing.

Ben helped Jack overcome his Oxy habit. Locke helped Charlie kick his heroin habit. I think Ben actually cares somewhat for Jack. Yes, I know he has other reasons for him to be sober, but coupled with his defense of Jack to Jill, I think he cares. Some.

1. Let’s just start but talking about how freaking cute Desmond’s son is. Wow!

2. Desmond talking to his son about the island, Great Britain, like it was “the” island was interesting. There are mountains and glens and monsters… And is he foreshadowing saying he’ll be there again?

3. They sure are killing a bunch of the extras off. Economy is bad, must save money somewhere I guess.

4. Was it just me, or were the colors weird in tonight’s episode? I’m hoping it’s just because of the film they used and not supposed to resemble something with time.

5. Here is my sister’s theory (and some embellishments by me). Penny has the baby, Charlie. Could this be our Charlie? When Des is on the island “seeing” Charlie die, it’s not because he sees the future but because he’s lived it already. Charlie could have been raised by the parents we saw initially because they had to “hide” him from Ben or maybe Widmore Sr. wanted to get his hands on him.

6. Or, they just named him after our Charlie.

7. Penny sure is a downer. “Also where he broke her (Penny) heart.” and “You forgot to tell him about his grandfather.”

8. Why are there government soldiers invading the island? Somehow, Richard’s people manage to eliminate them. Then they figure out how to “move” the island so that they can’t get back.

9. Jughead. The bomb. Must be buried in the hatch (what used to be the hatch). Remember that Sayid talks about the concrete wall down in the hatch and how thick it was. And that it was magnetic.

10. So the blonde woman that has Dan under the gun and takes him to the bomb is the same as “Teresa Spencer” the woman in the “coma” back in London. She must be the “poor woman” that the guy who finds Des in Dan’s old office is referring to.

11. Does Penny know more than she let’s on? Why does she make him promise never to go back to the island? I understand that she had a terrible time finding him, but as long as they are together why would she be so dead set against it? Maybe she knows things about the island in her research to find Des.

12. And, the government was trying to bomb the island? Why? What do they know?

13. I love that Juliet calls the soldiers “Others.” Like the writers are saying “Yes, we know you call them that,” and that is how they get the point across to us who they are.

14. Apparently these are also the “Others” that kill off the Dharma Initiative.

15. “Four” US soldiers. There is one of our numbers.

16. Juliet says, “Richard has always been here,” assuming she means the camp. But the camp looks like where they end up building “Otherville.”

17. Interesting that they took Dan out of the system showing he was a professor.

18. What I don’t understand is that if Dan’s work was to be kept secret, why did they leave all of his equipment (beside the fact that Des has to find it in the storyline). And what’s up with the mystery “janitor” that happens in and gives Des a little bit of information. And why is the janitor dressed so old fashioned? Does anyone besides Brad Pitt wear those hats these days? And who else was poking around for Dan’s work?

19. Looks like “Ellie,” the girl that has Dan at gunpoint, is the girl who is in the “coma” back at Oxford. oops, I already said that. Must be tired.

20. Dan knows the bomb is unstable because it was probably what was behind the wall when Marvin Candle’s group was drilling there.

21. Glad Sawyer got some good lines this week. “Well, maybe I should have said it in my secret language.”

22. So Locke owns this island my friends. The Losties are his people and The Others are his people. All your base belongs to…. Locke!

23. Teresa is traveling big time. It reminds me of the Matrix when they have them in the pods, feeding them, and their minds live in the “world.” I’m sure Mr Widmore was so kind to pay for Teresa’s care so no one found out about her. If she’s seeing her dead dad then she’s definitely traveling around.

24. Widmore has to be Dan’s dad. Could be Richard but more than likely Widmore. Explains why he funded his research (beyond interest in the topic). Age is appropriate.

25. Yeah, some “sodding” old man knows the island better than you Jones!

26. Richard is “old” but by what standard? I watched Aeon Flux this past weekend and it got me thinking. In the movie, the women can’t have children so until they figure out the problem, they clone children from their own DNA. Then the “leaders” teach the cloned child of themselves all about their lives and give them their memories. So in essence it seems like they have years and years of memories. Maybe Richard is a clone. Does it make more sense that he doesn’t age? Or is he just an aberration created by the smoke monster (like Yemmi or Christian)?

27. So if the blonde holding Dan at gunpoint isn’t Teresa, could she be Mrs Hawkins? Still thinking she’s his mother, too. She knows the island. She must be smart is some capacity to be chosen to be on the island. Why she wants to get back to the island. How she knows about the island.

28. Desmond, Desmond. What are you thinking going to Widmore? Like the guy was just going to tell him what he wanted to know with no strings. Widmore is so good that I wanted to believe that he was genuinely pooping himself when he saw Des but he probably already knew he was off the island and left him alone so as to not lead Ben to Penny. I do believe that Widmore wants Des to hide because Penny won’t leave him and Ben really would like to retaliate and kill Widmore’s daughter.

29. And I love Locke just marching into the camp. And how *did* Richard know when he would see Locke again unless Richard already has the memories when he meets up with Locke so he knows the next time we’ll see him.

30. I think that Widmore came to see Penny on the boat. That’s how she knows that Desmond is lying. Plus she just seems to be hiding something.

31. Now we know why Richard went and saw Locke in the hospital.

32. Maybe I’m tired but it looks like the coloring goes back to normal after they leave the “past.”

33. KATE visits the island next week! Ben must show her how to “travel” like Walt did back to the island. Man, ANOTHER good week to come!

34. And it sounds like Claire is screaming.

I like how the name “Charlie” applies to both Charlie Pace and Charles Widmore. These writers knew what they were doing the whole time, didn’t they?

  2. SKID Says:

So the woman on the island goes by “Ellie.”

. . . and we find out (for the first time?) that Ms. Hawking’s name is ELOISE HAWKING. (THAT came from one of the pop ups in the enhanced episode.) They just might be useful after all.

Hmmmmm. Further evidence that Ellie is mommie.

  3. GaryG Says:

I have a theory about the coloring of the film. I think they did it that way to show us it was the 1950’s, like the way old films look.

I do think Mr. Widmore was being groomed to be the leader of the Others and Ben took his place since he’s there with the Others when Locke shows up to talk with Richard. Could Richard actually be the smoke monster? We never see Richard around when the smoke monster is around. He might be some kind of a spiritual part of the island. We also know different people see the smoke monster differently. When Locke talked to Mr. Ecko about it, he said he saw it as a bright light and Mr. Ecko said it wasn’t what he saw. Also, remember how we saw it light up on Juliet when Kate was hiding behind her? We didn’t get to see the smoke monster there, but we could see that it brightened the area. I also like the cloning idea, but it’s hard to say since we know Richard was alive before the 1950’s. He’d have to have been born in the 1920’s. But Ben’s comment way back when about Richard remembering birthdays also kind of shoots the smoke monster idea out the window. I think Richard will be one of the last secrets they reveal to us.

I’m also wondering if the O6 are going to be coming back changed. It appears that they now “belong” to the island.

By the way, I do think that was Abbadon who was with the cop who arrested Hurley. That’s probably why Anna Lucia warned Hurley not to get arrested. But Abbadon is still really a mystery. He works for Mr. Widmore, but he’s also the one who told Locke to go on a walk-about in Australia – of course he’s also expecting a favor back from Locke for that.

I wish I had a way to tape the shows so I could watch them again right away, I miss so much that eveyone else catches…lol.

I have a feeling that Jack is going to be taking Locke’s place as the leader of the Others. Richard says the leaders are groomed from a young age, but then Locke wasn’t either. Remember what that woman told Jack in Thailand, the one who gave him his tattoo, that Jack was a leader but he didn’t want to be one. Now he’s going to be returning to the island with a new attitude.

I like that observation Smith, about Charlie Pace and Charles Widmore.

GG – I agree, that old nuke is somewhere near the Orchid station. Remember Keamy was going there to “Flame” the island if he couldn’t get Ben. Since we now know that Mr. Widmore was there when the nuke was buried, that must be what “Flaming” the island meant – and of course, Dan knew it too.

By the way, I don’t think the US troops were there to just test a nuke. I think they wanted to destroy the island. Think about it. Anyone who has control over that island would be very powerful. They contol time travel and all kinds of other crazy things. That would pretty much frighten any government that found out about it back then in that paranoid period of time. Remember “The War of the Worlds” radio broadcast, people thought it was real, that we were being invaded by Martians and were jumping from their windows out of fear.

I do think the girl holding the gun on Dan is his mother. Like I said, his reaction when she asked if she reminded him of another girlfriend. That’s that same reaction from “Back to the Future” – “my mother… has the hots for me?” LOL!!!

Neal the yogurt guy was pretty annoying – I’m glad he was done in by a flaming arrow.

Hello everyone! I just want to say that I look forward every thursday to read the GG review/ thoughts and the comments that follow. Being a LOST fan from the beginning, I just gotta say that it keeps getting better and better as the seasons go on. There are a lot of LOST haters out there and I am always defending the show and try to tell these people they don’t know what they are missing! It’s good to see all the fan support/ insight on this page! Keep up the good work GG…U rock.. Peace..

  5. JR Says:

HMMM…Penny seems to be know more than she says, Penny seems to be lying to Des…Penny is the daughter of a Other (maybe the most powerful Other) HMMMM?

  6. Foffman Says:

Good grief, GG. I can’t believe how well you put stuff together. I would have never had the idea that the Jughead was buried in the concrete (that was so clearly mentioned) in the hatch. I would have totally forgot that Dan’s rat’s name is Ellie, and come to the idea that hawkins is her mom.
Those are just a few examples. It’s a good thing I can come on here and read your blog, or I’d be so clueless. I feel like I have an advantage over all those fans who don’t know about your site!

  7. Smith Says:

“KATE visits the island next week! Ben must show her how to “travel” like Walt did back to the island.”
Unfortunately for this theory, I’m 100 percent sure that the Islanders are just gonna encounter their past selves through time jumping at some point.

Is anyone else wondering where Rose and Bernard are? Because it seems like the only good guys still alive on the island are the main cast and those two.

What I’m mostly wondering is: Why does Jacob want to kill the Dharmas? It can’t simply be that they wanted to experiment on his Island, could it? It seems like Jacob is the true mastermind behind everything that’s happening on the island. Does Richard report to him separately than the “leader” of the Others does?

  8. Nina Says:

I just thought back to the very first episode of Lost I ever watched. It was the one where Claire goes to see the psychic who tells her that she has to raise her baby by herself because under no circumstances may he be raised by anybody else. (Kinda interesting that he’s being raised by Kate now.)
Anyways, so later Eko meets the “psychic” who tells him he’s scamming people, right? I was thinking now.. with this whole time travel thing going on.. what if what he was also time travelling.. that’s how he knew some of the things from the future.. but he feels like he’s cheating people, because it’s no psychic ability, just that he’s already been to the future. So what he really means when he tells Eko he’s a fraud is not that his predictions about the future are not true!

  9. Tn Says:

I remember couple seasons ago when Richard came to visit John when john was still a kid. He gave John a couple of things and asked him to choose one. I am not quiet sure if the compass was one of the things he showed John but i remember that John eventually chose to pick up the knife. Then Richard seemed to be disappointed and said that it was not time yet for John to come with him. I could not understand this back then cause John is very good with knives and killing people on the island so it was meaningful that he picked the knife when he was a kid. Now it made sense. Hopefully everything would make sense.
Lost is such an amazing show and this is such an amazing site too. Love your thoughts. Keep it up :)

  10. GaryG Says:

I’m thinking Christian has definitely been to the island before. Think about it. He’s now set himself up in Jacob’s cabin. His son Jack has been and is coming back to be the leader and possibly the leader of the Others. His daughter Claire gave birth so some kind of super baby. Could Christian actually be Jacob? Who’s to say his trips to Australia didn’t also include side trips to the island? Maybe his whole purpose was to set things up for Jack and Claire? He did drag Anna Lucia with him and also convinced Sawyer to go kill that guy which got them both on 815. He also passed that message to Jack through Sawyer, was it because he knew Sawyer would meet Jack on the island? Anyhow, just a thought.

  11. Keith Says:

The losties travel back to when they first open the hatch because we saw the light from the hatch shoot in the air in the preview for the next episode. Sawyer see’s kate in the woods. “Ellie” is Eloise Hawkins, Daniel’s mother.

  12. Phil Reed Says:

seeing widmore as a younger man, and my thinking is him and teresa get together to have a daughter…(Penny) which makes her just as special as Alex is to ben. the rules must be that anyone born on the island is so special and cannot be killed, yet the rules were changed when alex was killed. what does anyone else think.
i also think the woman in the church who has given ben 70 hours to get back, she is dans mum and i think she was working for widmore until she found out that dan is on the island, knowing he needs his constant she is working with ben to prevent him dying.
charlotte said she wanted to stay on the island to see about her childhood or where she was born? will she turn out to be pennys sister? a widmore? cos she did explorations in the desert? hmm i bet they were funded by a mr widmore? so many questions it’s so frustrating waiting a week for the next installment.. does anyone know how many episode are in season 5?

  13. GaryG Says:

Here’s a thought. Richard gave that compass to Locke. Then Locke went back in time and gave the compass back to Richard who will again meet Locke in the future and give him that compass. So where did that compass come from? When Locke gives Richard the compass, does Richard now have 2 compasses and continue to have 2 compasses until he gives 1 back to Locke in the future? What if he gives Locke the wrong one of the 2 compasses? This is one of those things that makes time travel crazy and what they call a paradox.

  14. GaryG Says:

One last thought before bed. What if Adam and Eve, the 2 skeletons they found at the caves turn out to be someone’s parents – like maybe Charlottes? Or even stranger, what if a pair of the Losties remain back in time, like maybe Jack and Kate, and those are their skeletons and someone turns out to be their child?

  15. catalinacrawler Says:

richard knew where to find locke when he got shot because locke flashed further in the past when he waltzed into the others camp and told richard everything in the 50’s so richard would know where to find him in the future.

another question did ellie’s name tag say teresa? is that why you’re assuming they’re the same person? if so does that mean taht ellie killed the time travelling teresa so her real self in the future is messed up??

  16. catalinacrawler Says:

one other thing, if christian was indeed dead when jack brought him to the island in the coffin does that somehow coorelate to why locke had to die in order to come back to the island?? i just think its weird that christian got there in a coffin and came back to life and now thats what they’re setting up for locke….important?? maybe not.

  17. Scott Cramer Says:

#6… after everything Desi and Charlie went through together and how bad Desi felt when Charlie died and being there to witness it, am betting they named their firstborn after him. Although… this is LOST after all… ;-)
