Initial Thoughts: There’s No Place Like Home (Pt 1)

Can the season be ending already? I’ve read that *that singing show over on Fox* isn’t doing so well in the ratings this year so maybe if it doesn’t come back next year we can get an earlier time again and get back to Wednesdays. Although, I kind of like it on Thursday - gives me reason to stand around and talk on Friday at work bond on Fridays with my friends.

1. Wow. That scene where the back of the plane opens and they go to their families was very touching. It was such a mix of emotions because there were only six of them (and they know their friends are still stranded on that island) and they all know that they cannot tell the true story.

2. I had a huge lump in my throat watching them reunite with their families. And the looks on Sayid and Kate’s faces…. heartbreaking. No family there waiting for them. Kate had to be panicked wondering if they were going to arrest her and take Aaron.

3. Then to follow with Jack back on the island sacrificing himself for the promise to save his friends.

4. Sun says that her husband was not one of the 8 that made it (then 2 died) on the island. The good news: Jin is alive back on the real island. The bad news: two Losties are dead that we haven’t seen the demise of yet. Ugh. Hopefully it can be two characters we don’t really know. After Charlie I’m done with main character deaths for this season.

5. … and who are the “two” responsible for Jin’s death? Her dad is one of them.

6. The press conference was very interesting. I could just feel that each and every one of the six, er, five was totally uncomfortable talking about the crash, etc. Excellent job by the actors.

7. I was a cry baby tonight. When Sayid found out Nadia was there! Ugh!

8. Go Sun! She grew some major cahones while on the island. Hopefully….. Jin IS alive back on the island and will someday make it back to see what she has done.

9. Hurley’s mom just delivered what may very well be the best line of the entire season. ” Jesus Christ is not a weapon.” lmao

10. Yeah! The numbers are back! A break was nice, but it was almost nostalgic to see the numbers again and all together too!

11. Ben is so freaking polite in a crisis. He always speaks so grammatically correct and he still remembers his manners. “May I have the binoculars please?” Not, “Give me the damn binoculars I think the terrorists have invaded already!”

12. Oh yeah, Saywer has met his match in Frank. Too bad Frank is going to have to die. At least, I think he is.

13. Loving Jack using the Sawyerism “Son Of A Bitch!”

14. OMG, I’m freaking crying again at Christian’s funeral. Jack loves and misses his dad? Too much!

15. Yes! I love the Claire is Jack’s sister reveal. I think that the future ramifications are going to be huge from this. All the more inspiration for Jack to return to the island.
16. Ben hands Locke his ass kicking stick which must mean they meet up again before the island moves so he can get it back.

17. Notice those red flowers? They are everywhere on this island.

18. OMG, they are going to blow up the damn freighter. I think I just figured out who the second one responsible for killing Jin - it’s Michael. They are trying to diffuse the bomb to unjam the signal and Michael must mess up. But I sure hope that Desmond doesn’t die there too.

19. So Jin is dead. Ugh.

20. Going back, way back, it sounded like Sawyer was asking Miles if he was talking to someone “again” as they are coming up on Jack and Kate. I’m sure Miles has plenty of people to talk to on this island.

21.  What does Richard and co. want with Kate and Sawyer?  Maybe part of their own plan?  They definitely know who they are.  Will be interested to see where that story line goes.

22.  Ben purposely had himself also caught by the Losties so it doesn’t surprise me that he *surrenders* to the evil freighties.  Sayid tortured him, too, so we know he will sacrifice himself for whatever his cause is.

23.  I wonder if Ben will release old smokey again for Keemy.  I wondered why he didn’t die the first time around but now I’m thinking that Ben has a *special* death planned for that guy.

24.  Overall I LOVED tonight’s episode.  I love that so many things are coming together.  I love that the story is still moving forward.  I love that they can bring new characters on without cheapening the show.  I’m so excited for the two hour finale but I’m also sad that we’ll have to wait again all summer and through part of winter to see more.

25.  Oh yeah, and it was cool to see the looks on their faces when Sun and Jin meet up with Michael.  Quite a history they have.

26.   The Orchid is a green house.  Definitely worth some research.

GG - Couldn’t agree more. Fantastic episode even though most of it was setup for the big payoff 2 weeks from now. I really have NO clue as to how the 6 are going to all come together and get off at the same time. What I do know is that I wish Darlton could write every episode of this show because they never fail to have the best ones. They always get the pacing and the emotion just right. It’s tough to describe but you just know the show is in good hands when the episode is written by them.

2 weeks is going to feel like a LOOOONNNNG time….

  2. Gitsie Girl Says:

Agreed on all counts. Another reason to love the show- the mystery of how they will come together to get out of Dodge. And how the hell they are getting back if Locke moves that island. I don’t want spoon fed answers. The slow reveal is part of the appeal. (didn’t mean to rhyme that).

  3. Foffman Says:

Ahhh! So excited for the finale!

    Great initial thoughts, GG.

I laughed pretty hard at Hurley’s mom’s line about Jesus.

Man you gotta feel for Jack when Claire’s mom tells him about Claire and he can’t say anything, and how ironic when she tells Kate that she has a beautiful son!

I’ll go ahead and make the prediction that the finale will be the best episode to date, and to be honest, I think that prediction is a safe one and will probably come true.

  4. SKID Says:

I really thought for a moment that maybe, just maybe . . . Farraday was going to look at Charlotte wistfully before getting into the raft . . . take off his tie . . . and say “Here. I want you to have this.” and toss it to her (a la Mean Joe Green)

. . . and was anyone expecting someone on the freighter to say (once the raft arrived back): “Oh good! You brought some of the mute castaways with you!”

As for the mirror and who was on the receiving end:

    a. Ageless Richard and the Supremes but I am not sure the timing is right (no pun intended)

b.Wouldn’t it be COOL if it were Dr. Marvin Candle! with an outside chance of Mikhail?

. . . and I think Ben is in the coffin.

  5. GaryG Says:

Did you notice the co-pilot on the plane bringing them back playing with a rabbit’s foot and then later when Hurley’s Dad gives him the keys to the Camero, it’s chained to a rabbit’s foot? I wonder if there’s a hint there. Remember the pilot’s comment to the co-pilot “Put that away, you’re creeping me out.” I loved the numbers being in the car..LOL. Poor Hurley, he can’t escape them.

The boat is rigged with C4, I wonder if most of the people who made it to the boat are going to die. Sun’s on the boat with Aaron and we know they’re 2 of the 6. All of the 6 are scattered so somehow they have to get back together.

According to what Horace told Locke, if the island was moved 15 years ago, it would have been done while the Dharma guys still had control of the island.

I wonder what the real Orchid site that’s under the green house will be like and what needs to be done there. Ben didn’t tell Locke what he needed to do. Orchid, flowers, they bloom, sometimes people use that term bloom when they talk about large explosions like a nuke. Keemy did say he was going to the Orchid to “flame” the island.

I absolutely loved when Sun stood up to her Father, “So you show me some respect!” You could see it in his face when she told him to expect some changes.

    2 weeks… I can’t wait!!!

  6. davesbeachbar Says:

Something that is bugging me. If the “others” can surround Kate and Sayid, quiet as mice and armed to the teeth, then why couldn’t they do that to the bad freighties and wipe them out or at least capture them instead? You know there are at least a couple of them at or near the Orchid due to the mirror response.

  7. GaryG Says:

I think the 2nd one responsible for Jin’s death would be Mr. Widmore. What do you think?

  8. GaryG Says:

Addition to my last comment. I think that’s another reason Sun is taking over her father’s business, to have a power base to take on Mr. Widmore.

  9. Mark Says:

    GG

My son & I were just reading your thoughts on this episode & I think he hit the nail on the head with one observation: The device strapped to Keamy’s arm is the trigger for the C4 on the boat. If Keamy dies, the boat goes BOOM!

  10. Gitsie Girl Says:

davesbeachbar: I think that Ben has a plan and it involves a *special* death for Keamy. They knew the boat people were coming when they left Othervile so I’m sure that there was a plan there. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Remember that Ben was exactly where he wanted to be (just like Miles) when he was with the Losties.

GaryG; I think that Sun holds her father and Michael responsible for Jin’s death. Something is going to happen on that boat and it’s not going to be pretty.

Mark: I forgot about the mystery device on Keamy. Good call!

  11. GaryG Says:

GG: One reason I don’t believe it’ll be Michael Sun blames is because his whole reason for coming to back to the island was to make amends for the things he did to save his son. He’s being haunted by Libby. Ben recruited him by using his guilt and to try and stop Mr. Widmore from killing the rest of the Losties. But we really don’t have enough information. As of yet, I don’t even think Sun knows that the boat belongs to Mr. Widmore, but the crew of the boat knows who hired them and I believe one of them will inform her. Desmond also knows. I have a feeling she’s talking about overall responsibility, not the actual person who does the killing.

  12. Skid Says:

I am not one for wackadoo theories, but I will throw this out in short form for you to ponder, flesh out, or discard. Maybe with a week break you will have time to read:

IF there were TWO Rabbit 15’s . . . COULD there be two Ben’s????

MIGHT he even have been communicating with himself with the mirror at the Orchid??? and needed to WARN the “other” him that he was coming since like the rabbits (and Marty McFly) he cannot risk running into or coming into contact with “himself”???

I KNOW this sounds WAY twisted but maybe one Ben knew to be waiting to hear from himself at a certain time and place and was there to wait for him. I had to wonder how someone just happened to be waiting by the cliff to look for a mirror message.

Maybe one Ben is in the coffin and Jack knows that was his chance to get back to the island, but he knows there is another one on the island????

I really have NO idea where this leads but it would be the biggest twist I could imagine.

Again, the TWO rabbits who are identical from the Orchid video are what open this door in my mind.

There is more to flesh out, but might there be something to this???

( . . . oh and I still want to have a day of celebration when Farraday takes off that tie.)

Keep up the great posts. Any comment on the “Twin Ben Theory”???

  13. Gitsie Girl Says:

Skid: Ok, weird. Read #23 of my newest post. I swear I just posted it then went to see any new comments and saw yours. Ironic or what!!!??? So … no, I don’t think it’s wackadoo at all!
