Initial Thoughts: Whatever Happened, Happened
Spot on writers! Ben would survive. It happened once and happened again.
I love the new and improved Jack. Won’t save Ben, puts a shirt on when Juliet walks in on him nude, and listens to Sawyer? Jack the new man of faith.
Kate scored a few points tonight for doing the right thing with Aaron. She’s on the right track. We’ll see if she can keep it up or will go back to whiney.
1. What is the creepy relationship with Roger and Kate? Ew!
2. What a cute baby they have for Aaron.
3. Cassidy is back. She was a reality check after seeing the softer side of Sawyer. Yeah, he was a pretty creepy guy back home and did some pretty terrible things. Guess I wanted to forget who he was but she made some good points – like why Sawyer really jumped out of the helicopter.
4. Why does Kate trust Cassidy so much? She told her the whole truth and Cassidy doesn’t seem very surprised by the story. They left them behind on some crazy island and this doesn’t surprise her. Is it just me or is Cassidy suspicious?
5. Now Roger is becoming a concerned father? I’m wondering what would have happened if Jack would have saved Ben. What a twist! Ben may have ended up being a relatively normal guy but because of Jack’s refusal to help he actually contributed to Ben becoming Crazy Ben. Wow! And Kate is directly responsible for Ben going to Crazy Town by begging Juliet and Sawyer to help save him. I love it!
6. I’m very glad that Jack had the conversation with Kate that he already saved Ben once because Kate begged him. Is Jack on to something that maybe The Island wants to fix itself. The Island has the ability to heal and to supposedly prevent people from dying (think Michael in the car crash) so it does pick and chose who lives and dies.
7. Why would the doctor be in the Looking Glass station for a week? Seems like he/she would have more use on the mainland.
8. Kate understands what Roger is talking about when he says that a boy needs his mother. She lets Claire’s mom watch Aaron while she goes back to the island to get Clarie. Good, noble cause.
9. I think Hurley is wrong. I think Ben *does* remember that Sayid is the guy that shot him as a kid. That is why Ben was so insistent that Sayid was a killer and was confident he would kill to protect his friends. After all, Sayid would shoot a 12 year old boy to protect his friends, why not dozens of perfect strangers? Or, Ben doesn’t remember being shot as Richard says if they take him he won’t remember the incident.
10. Juliet knows the Hostiles/Others can help save Ben but she must know what the consequences will be. She knows this by living with them all of those years. I would hope that Sawyer will come back and ask Juliet what it all means, but it seems like Hurley and Jack are the only ones asking questions lately.
11. Ah, the cog in the wheel – the scene at the dock seems to be the cog and all the spikes (stories) of the Losties spread out from there.
12. I would guess that Ben paid the blonde lady who looked *just* like Claire to take Aaron off by the hand to freak out Kate. Way too much of a coincidence.
13. All right, so Ellie and Charles are making the calls for the Hostiles. Mrs Hawking and Widmore. Ben must really pull a number on Widmore when he’s older to get Mrs Hawking on his side. But what on earth must they have to do to Ben to save him. I’m going to guess it’s something affiliated with the smoke monster considering they are in the Temple and we know who lives there! Why does he lose his innocence?
14. I say Ellie and Charles because the guy working with Richard asks him if he should ask them first before they take Ben.
15. Yes! Locke is back! I was missing him. Now we need to bring back Daniel and Desmond too. Ben looks genuinely surprised to see Locke.
16. Clever editing? they make it look like Ben is talking to the young Danielle. But he doesn’t look like young Ben. But maybe it is, maybe we’ll see the scene where Ben takes Alex from her.

The woman taking Aaron in the store sure didn’t look like she was trying to find his mother. She looked as though she was making a bee-line for the exit to me. Most people when they find a lost child at a store seek out the first store employee they can find if they can’t find the mother right there. I’d have to guess that she would be working for Widmore more than Ben since Ben was pulling that lawyer trick on Kate.
You remember when we were first introduced to Dan and they showed him watching TV and starting to cry when they showed the fake Oceanic plane in the news? There was a woman watching out for Dan, they never show her face which I always thought was unusual. I first thought she was Dan’s wife since she was wearing a wedding ring. But I now think she was just someone hired to keep an eye on Dan and probably working for Widmore. Not showing her face seems to me that she’s someone the writers might want to bring back into the story, but they learned with that first photo of Penny that we notice when they switch actors on us. But the only reason not to show her face is because she must somehow be important. Could she have been the one in the store taking Aaron?
It was kind of funny – Jack didn’t want to help Ben because of the way Ben was when they first met him. But because Jack didn’t help Ben seems to be what made Ben the way he was when they first meet him in the future. Remember how when Danielle’s team went into the temple and how they were changed afterwards? That must be what happened to Ben. Something must possess them or at least cohabitate inside of their minds. Some kind of other spirit or something. It must be why Richard says Ben will lose his innocence, because he’ll have another older spirit who has lived before living within him and he’ll know all of those memories of that spirit’s past. Imagine a child with the memories of an 80 year old.
I figured someone was going to meet and get to know Rodger, but I didn’t think it’d be Kate and I didn’t think they’d kind of hit-it-off the way they did. Let’s hope nothing goes on there more than just a friendship. I agree with you GG – EW!!!
In the preview for next week, I think we’re going to get to see what Ben’s errand was and we have all guessed it was him going to kill Penny. I’m getting a bit worried now because Ben said he broke the rules and that’s why he’s back on the island – so he can be judged. It seems like one of the rules includes not killing one of your own people and I’m assuming Penny was born on the island and is included as one of the Others just like Alex was. Remember when Ben went to see Widmore and he had that bottle of scotch by his bed. Ben asked why he had it there and Widmore answered it was because the nightmares had started. I wonder if that’s a penalty for breaking the rules of killing one of their own.

Oh, I loved the scene where Miles was trying to explain time travel to Hurley – it was so funny. Hurley asked why Ben doesn’t remember them and it must be because Richard takes him into the temple from what Richard said to Kate and Sawyer.

Oh, by the way – I’m not so sure that Juliet knows everything about the Others even though she lived with them for 3 years. I don’t think every member of the Others have been to the temple. Alex and Karl didn’t know about it when Ben gave them the map and told them to go there. If I remember, Ben told them it’d be a day and a half walk to get to it from Otherville. It didn’t see to take that long for Sawyer to find Richard and for Richard to get Ben there. But I think time is different on the island. I was thinking of one of the papers we get a glimpse at when Ceaser is going through the Hydra station and finds that shotgun – it shows different time flows for different locations on the island.
If we know our physics theory, we know there are 2 things that affect time. One is speed, time slows as you approach the speed of light. At least for those who are moving, it remains the same for those who aren’t moving near light-speed. The other is gravity as in a black hole. At the event horizon of a black hole, time is suposed to stop.

All I have to say about Kate & Roger is, the writers better not go there.
Do you think little Ben will come back to Dharma a little meaner? Will his Dad try to be nice and Ben will threaten him? I wrote about this on my blog, but will he be like the cat in Pet Sematary – they don’t come back the same.
I think the new Jack is quite annoying.
April 2nd, 2009 at 10:22 am
I don’t think anymore that Ben is infatuated with Juliet when she first comes to the island because she saved him. She doesn’t, besides telling Kate where to take him.
I can’t believe that Hawking and Widmore are still on the island in the 70s. When is Daniel born? When is Penny born? Is Widmore Daniel’s dad? Is Hawking Penny’s mom? I’ll have to look and see if i can find anything in Penny’s mom. I mean we’ve never seen or heard anything about her mother right?
I loved the Miles/Hurley interaction. It was just great. I laughed through those whole parts. I think that Miles was making alot of sense until Hurley through him off. I’m thinking that time on the island now is a cirlce not a straight line.
When are we going to see Rose, Bernard and Vincent?
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Anne – I agree with you. I was kind of disappointed in Jack for not helping to save little Ben – he threw the whole Hippocratic Oath out the window there. In the real world, if you’re in need of emergency help, like a crash or some kind of an accident, if there’s a doctor on the scene, he’s required to render aid. If he doesn’t and it’s found out later that he was there, he can lose his license, not to mention that the victim has good grounds to sue him. But in these days, it seems like doctors and hospitals are more concerned with money issues than helping patients. One of the first things they ask is, how are you going to pay for this. If you ever saw that video of the woman colapsing in the hospital waiting room, you know what I’m talking about. None of the other patients there waiting did anything, just let he lay on the ground. You even see someone working at the hospital push their chair back, look at the woman laying on the floor, then roll their chair back to their desk to continue whatever it was they were doing. It took 45 minutes before anyone did anything to help her and she died. You’d think the one place you could have a medical emergency and get help would be in a hospital, but I guess not.

“To atone for sins of the past, Ben must attempt to summon the smoke monster in order to be judged.” — That is the description of next week’s episode, “Dead is dead” I found on Wikipedia.
It’s gonna be interesting to see how Richard fits into that. Next week has potential to have some pretty crazy stuff going on in that temple.
Also, great to see Locke again (Although it reminded me that all these story lines at the same time can sometimes be difficult to follow).
It’ll be nice to see where Sayid ran off to. And still waiting for R&B…
April 2nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
so ben will be saved at the temple and it prolly has something to do with ol’ smokey… so is this gonna be the incident that causes women to die when pregnant? and maybe that it why ben becomes obsessed with “fixing” the problem b/c he is partly to blame? just a thought, i’m sure there will be much more to it
great episode though
and next weeks shows says we will see penny, widmore, among others, can’t wait!
April 2nd, 2009 at 2:12 pm
oh i wonder if Ben were to die as an adult (as his atonement for his sins) …will that fix the problem and woman could then carry babies to full term or something and that is how the island fixes the problem?
ok now i’m confussing myself, i feel like hurley and miles, talking in circles-so funny
April 2nd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
You know, I was thinking about old smokey. If smokey doesn’t like you, if you’re not up to smokey’s standards, he kills you. If he likes you, he drags you down into the temple (to be reborn?) like he did to one of Danielle’s team and then the others went down after him when he called for them and they all came out changed. I wouldn’t say for the better because trying to kill a pregnant woman just doesn’t seem like such a nice thing, especially when she’s your own girlfriend. Remember way back in the first season where smokey tried to pull Locke down into that hole and he told Jack to let him go, that he wasn’t going to be hurt? Then with Ecko, this next episode with Ben being judged reminds me of the episode where Yemi came to judge Ecko then Ecko said, “You’re not my brother.” Then smokey shows up and kills Ecko. All in all, it seems like old smokey is pretty evil to me. Good and evil is really all just a point of view. Remember at the end of the new Star Wars when Anikan (sp) and Obi Wan are fighting and Anikan says, “From my point of view, the Jedi are evil.”
mm: I’m dying to see what happens with Penny too. But I’m also a bit worried. In the preview for next week, it looks like Ben is at the docks and we know that’s where Penny and Desmond are and that Ben is out to kill Penny.

What is your opinion of my theory about Daniel and Penny being brother and sister? I’d love to know your thoughts on that
April 2nd, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Richard seems to be the center of everything on the island. Even though Widmore and Ben are leaders at one point I think he is the Big Boss. He must put them in charge and let them lead until something goes wrong. I think he is the heart of the island.

I’ve thought that they may be brother and sister for some time, but I’ve wondered, if so, why doesn’t Daniel have a British accent?
April 3rd, 2009 at 10:04 am
JHT-
I think Daniel doesnt have a british accent because Widmore and Hawking separated them off island. You know like Hawking took Daniel to LA or the US somewhere and Widmore took Penny to Great Britain (sp?) or somewhere near there. Maybe it was there attempt at keeping them separate to hide thier island pasts. But of course Daniel made to Oxford anyways. Maybe Hawking and Widmore had a falling out.

GG – I’ve been think of something you said earlier about maybe that the Others and the DI are all a part of the same experiment. Maybe they did drop the Others off onto the island sometime in the 1950’s or earlier, telling them that the island was theirs. But it’s not a normal island, they meet Richard and Richard leads them into the temple and such. Then later in the 1970’s they bring the DI to the island to see how the two groups interact. Both groups seem o be well funded which in the case of the Others has always bothered me and doesn’t seem to make sense. Also, why would the Hanso Foundation (one of the backers of the DI) put up for auction that log of the Black Rock so Mr. Widmore (who we now know was a member of the Others) could get his hands on it. Was there a reason behind that?
April 4th, 2009 at 7:32 am
Just another thought I’ve been pushing around in my head. But could the original Others be the Lost Tribe of Isreal? We know the Hebrews originated out of Egypt and that one tribe was lost during the Exodus. Maybe they were lost because they stumbled through a doorway (as Mrs. Hawkin’s discribes it) and ended up on the island. Lost Tribe – LOST? There seems to be a lot of Egyptian artifacts on the island, but also, they keep bringing up The Book of Laws, which is the Torah, or The Old Testiment.
By the way, this is the second time that Juliet has done medical work on someone from the DI. Do they normally let their mechanics work on patients when the doctor is away? You’d think one of the other DI guys would say something wouldn’t you? What would be her answer – oh, I read a medical book once and it kind of stayed with me…lol. I don’t know why Sawyer didn’t just say she was their ship’s doctor when they first arrived, it would have been easier.

ashley b- it’s intriguing to think that Dan and Penny are related, but where does that take the mythology of the show? We haven’t seen that Penny has any *special* abilities yet but Dan has an incredibly deep understanding of the island. I’m curious what your thinking is about where the potential relationship takes the story line. I’m interested to hear your thoughts…
April 6th, 2009 at 11:57 am
I think that Daniel is more “in tune” with the island because Hawking fed him information about it. I don’t think Penny knew anything becasue i dont think Widmore would’ve told her. I think that may have something to do with why they may have been split up in the first place.
I also think this may come into play with Desmond possibly coming back the island and bringing little Charlie with him, that’s of course assuming that Ben killed Penny. Can you imagine what that kid might bring to the table if Penny is related to Daniel and has Desmond in him too? Both people who have ties to the island.
April 20th, 2009 at 5:54 am
also loved the miles/hurley interaction. i love that hurley keeps plugging away and sometimes comes up with things that people don’t expect.
i can’t wait to get daniel back and here him explain more of the time travel and paradox logic.
