Let me digress …

Let me digress from Charlie. Well, it’s not really me, ABC digressed, but I wanted to make a few observations about Numbers. I’ll get back to Charlie soon.

1. Why play Numbers now? We are in the middle of Season 2 and they insert an episode from Season 1? I know, I know, other shows do this too, but I would like to assume that the writers, producers, and/or decision makers for Lost have some say in what airs. So why this one?

2. The house that burns. Remember when Hurley takes his mom to the house he bought for her? Check out the mysterious “black cloud” over the house (am I stretching for something here?). What would have happened if the police didn’t come and arrest Hurley? What might he have seen in the smoke? This smoke does not look like it’s coming out of the house as much as it is hovering “over” the house. I also don’t see any fire coming out of the window to cause the smoke.

3. Lenny. What does he mean when he tells Hurley that he opened the box? Is he speaking metaphorically? I also wondered this … Lenny keeps repeating the numbers. On the island they have to punch the numbers in every 108 minutes or something catastrophic will happen. Is Lenny “punching the numbers” into his head to keep himself from going crazy? Yes, I know he already is, but maybe in his mind it’s the same concept.

4. I loved the scene where Hurley hugs Danielle because “finally” someone believes him about the numbers. But, it seems to be in line with the other characters and their need to be believed. Shannon seeing Walt. Kate and the horse. Sawyer and the boar. Jack and his dad. OK, so we haven’t gone there yet, but I THINK IT IS COMING!!

5. There is a lot of debate on “other” forums if Marvin Candle is the same dr. as the one who greets Hurley when he visits the hospital. They are two different actors, but the time frame could be as much as 25 years so it would not be so far of a stretch to think that they needed to use a different actor. He also tells Hurley “Good Luck” when they part, which is the same closing Candle uses in Orientation. You decide…

Missing Season 1 yet? I am.

Okay… #5 has me sold. I was originally thinking that since it was two different actors, it wasn’t him. But… with the time difference that would make a lot of sense. For such a bit part why go through all the makeup on the production end when you can get an appropriate age’d actor.

Black smoke and the house… will have to ponder that one more. I think the “black smoke” is central to the island for some reason.

Lenny… I’d like to learn more about why the numbers have him all crazy. Perhaps - thinking on the fly here - Lenny and others were the first experiment. This group of islanders is the second experiment… hmmm… ;-)

Love the blog! Need to get more people in here.

Didn’t realize the possible “Candle” connection.

    Interesting idea about the smoke.

I remember seeing something about the numbers girl and Sawyer was going to happen in an upcoming episode. That might be why they decided to play this epidsode now.

Not that any of this may matter soon, because if they have another 1 or 2 bombs, I might just switch my TiVo over to record “Bones” or “Criminal Minds.”

I’ll give it a little more time than that. Heck, I gave X-Files a whole season. I don’t think I’ll do that again, but I’ll give LOST a couple episodes. Hoping that they were *trying* to go somewhere but they just messed up. Maybe they let an intern write. ;-)

Hey, I hear you don’t like me anymore! :-)

Sheesh, I’m not the one who wrote a Eulogy to LOST!

OKOKOK, Maybe I exaggerated a little bit by saying I would only give it one or two more episodes to get back on track.

Most likely I’ll watch it die a terrible death and even attend the funeral.

I’m just going to get more and more pissed about it.

Wow, switching channels? Yes, the epi was bad and I “may” have overreacted, too, but there has to be a reason that Fire + Water was so weak. I am thinking it was the writers because the concept was actually quite good if you go back and watch it. This week Damon is co-writing so it should be good stuff!
