Good reading - post and comments. Comment on comment point #1 - it would make sense that the tail section would be further away from the front section. It fell off first and dropped, and then the plane kept going and dropped. From the orientation of the map I thought the plane was traveling in the direction from where the tail section fell to where the front section fell and it makes sense for placement. Then again, my directional sense is not too good. :-)

From the link of cs.iastate.edu, I have to credit all those involved in "demystifying" the cryptic writings there. I won't go into too much discouraging remarks, as I went there too -- curious as to what others (ha ha) thought. Anyway, I found a few points of interest -- perhaps beyond the authors' intents.
The map, however cleverly drawn and intelligently thought -- has a flaw in some placements, based on logic and reason.
1. the tail section either fell around 11.3 miles farther than the rest of the plane. I find this odd since it fell off first, and while no longer having thrust and having less mass, would not likely fall so far from the other section theoretically speaking, as there was no data on the location, altitude and airspeed.
2. If I were to assume that it didn't fall farther, but shorter, the orientation of the engines (remember man being sucked into running turbine, which without fuel and power, wouldn't be running was facing East, according to the map ... in the direction of the tail section -- showing directionality, also doubled by the cockpit location.

A point made by the continum of the philosophy chart, and based on the flourescent painted rough note and map painting, it would seem logical that Claire was taken North (medical staff) regarding maternity, therefore requiring the main hatch to be of recognizition and fame, while Danielle French Chick would be in either Family and Health area or (more likely) Education and Knowledge area. It was never made clear as to whether her abode was from cannibalized materials from the ship or found items including power, which certainly she couldn't have attached to no ship.

This sets the Ana Lucia / Echo hatch as either Education and Knowledge or Career Prospect, judging from its lack of materials, either materials were relocated from there, or there are general theives. It had no known/shown water access, so I find that unlikely.

Just some interesting things to ponder. Again ... those people put far more effort into it and should be complimented.
