4 X 01: The Beginning Of The End: Part Two

I missed this show.

1. See last post for initial thoughts.

2. To build on the idea of course correcting…. what if they are all meant to die, or were meant to die in the plane crash? Wouldn’t it be the perfect end of this show if the survivors get on a plane after being rescued (after the six go back to save the rest) and it crashes killing them all? If they were meant to die, fate *will* have it’s way with them.

3. Since when does the season open with a “previously on Lost…?” Season Two opened with Desmond in the hatch. Season Three opened with the Juliet book club. We always get the head scratchers so why open like a normal episode? Possibly because ABC knows that there isn’t anything else on tv and they did it for new viewers? Maybe it doesn’t mean anything at all.

4. Looks like Hurley got the car running. I would bet that Daddy didn’t have anything to do with it. I’m wondering if the money was still there. What kinds of things would Mommy Dearest have to say when he got back? She was mean… yet funny.

5. For the record, the words on the wall read, “NO SMOKING.”

6. Did you catch the writing on Charlie’s hand?

7. I’ve been thinking about why only 6 make it off the island and I have several theories. One is that they use the submarine (you know that Locke didn’t blow it up) and since space is limited, only a few could go. I also think this would explain why Hurley was so freaked out about water pouring into the police station. Or, there could be some sort of *event* back on the island that creates an emergency and only six run for it to the helicopter or boat as it’s leaving. Or, maybe there is another LIST out there and the six that leave were chosen.

8. Hurley wants to go back to the asylum. People try to change but in the end, they all go back to what they know. It’s human nature. Hurley is comfortable in that environment. Just like Jack goes back to drinking. Kate is back under control (with a man this time, not by the law) and we are yet to see what Jin & Sun and Sayid are back to. But probably a similar lifestyle to their pre-island days.

9. Kate asks why Locke would kill Naomi, “he hadn’t even met her.” Yes, why. Locke knows what Ben says is true, but how?

10. Again, if there is a List of who gets to go home, it would make sense to take Kate and Sun for further research of the fertility. Claire conceived off the island. Both Kate and Sun would have conceived on the island. Maybe *they* want to see if their babies will live since they know that the women will die on the island.

11. Just like Sawyer to sit back and watch Juliet work. Here is the scene that was supposed to be aired:

12. Matthew Abbadon or as I like to call him “Creepy Eyed Man.” Check out the info from Lostpedia:

A) In Hebrew Abaddon means “destroyer,” or “destruction”. More precisely, this name comes from the Hebrew root word aleph-bet-daled, which means “lost”.
B) In Job 26:6; Proverbs 15:11 Abbadon means “place of destruction”, or “realm of the dead”. In Revelation 9:11, it is personified as Abaddon, “Angel of the Abyss”. Many biblical scholars believe Abaddon to be Satan or the antichrist. Others argue that is a mistaken view since the angel “Abaddon” possesses the keys to the Abyss into which Satan is hurled or imprisoned, indicating that he serves as Satan’s “jailer” and must therefore be someone else.

13. So if CEM (aka: Creepy eyed man) asks if “they” are still alive, if the Oceanic 6 escaped on the sub then he could be referring to the Boat People. But, he could be wondering about the rest of the passengers of Flight 815. But why would he care unless there are more of them that are *special* (like Aaron or Walt) that *they* want.

14. As promised, here are screen caps of the chalk board and the mural in the hatch.
chalkboard.jpg mural.jpg Click either image to enlarge

15. Why is everyone suddenly calling Hurley “Hugo?” Even hallucination Charlie called him by his formal name.

16. OK and what is the deal with the new “soft” Sawer? Asking Hurley if he wanted to “talk” about Charlie? He is up to something I tell ya. Remember the frog? Sawyer ended up squishing it even though you thought he was going to give it back to Hurley?

17. When Hurley comes up to Jacob’s shack you can hear the whispers. I think they are in Spanish. Anyone have the translation yet? I wonder if Locke broke the ring (salt?) around the shack because I don’t remember there being whispers when Locke first came to the shack with Ben.

18. And I thought that Jacob didn’t like the light, yet the light comes up as Hurley approaches.
light_in_shack.jpg Click to enlarge

19. “I’m sorry George. Just tell my sister I love her.” Couple of thoughts: maybe Penny is Naomi’s sister? That would explain why she had a picture of Penny & Desmond in her book. Maybe Naomi was blackmailed by Hanso like Juliet was. Could have been using her sister as bait.

20. They shouldn’t leave dead bodies laying around the island. I’ll get to that theory of mine in a minute.
naomi_dead.jpg Click to enlarge

21. Whoever is in the shack is wearing nice, white tennis shoes. All laced up.
shoes_jacob.jpg Click to enlarge

22. This is Christian Shepherd in the shack… which brings me to my corpse theory. Remember that the Others do not bury their dead, but rather, they burn the bodies. Like for the woman who Sun shot on the boat, they were all dressed in white and they set the body afire as they sent it to sea on a raft. What if they do that because they know that disembodied Jacob can put his energy into the corpse and that is how he takes human form? We have seen Eko’s brother, who was not buried. Why else would Hurley be seeing Jack’s dad (we could speculate why Jack would see him). But if you remember back to season one, Christian’s body was gone from the coffin.

23. Now check out the eye that pops up to scare Hurley. I don’t think it’s Richard or Locke. I think it’s Jacob. I’m also including the shot of the eye from last season when Locke was in the shack.

24. Hurley has seriously grown a pair. If I saw that shack I’d be headed the other way. I wouldn’t be going up peeking in the windows. And when the creaky door opens, whew! He was brave to stand there and will it away.

25. Oy vey. I got all misty eyed when Hurley told Claire about Charlie.

26. I found my new favorite theory. I will refer to it in later posts, I’m sure, but please read this as it is very plausible and I think this person may have unlocked the whole thing. Click here: “North Pole Theory”

27. So is this guy who warns Hurley that someone is staring at him real? Or is it Hurley’s subconscious talking to him? I’ve felt guilt before but not to the extent dead people were talking to me.
man_who_warns_hurley.jpg Click to enlarge

28. And didn’t Charlie look great for a dead guy? Death becomes him.
charlie.jpg Click to enlarge

29. Check out the Raven on Chalie’s shirt. Here is a link with info about the Raven. Is it possible that Jacob’s energy somehow follows them back to land? Maybe he wants to go back to the island and comes to the survivors to covince them to go back so he can get back. I’ll have to wait and see if any of the other six see dead people. Maybe that is why Jack was convinced his dad was at the hospital.
charlie_shirt.jpg Click to enlarge

30. My sister pointed out that Hurley counts to five just like Jack does (remember the story?).

31. I couldn’t understand why no one freaked that Jack was going to shoot Locke in cold blood. I understand the Locke has been kooky, but to just shoot him between the eyes? They are both crazy.
jack_shoot.jpg Click to enlarge

32. Baby Aaron is crying right as Locke proclaims he has never done anything to hurt any of the survivors. Reading too much into it?
aaron.jpg Click to enlarge

33. Live together, die alone. Maybe they shouldn’t have split into two groups.

34. It was odd to me that Rose decided not to go with Locke. She did say before that she couldn’t leave the island (because of the cancer) but will they stay with Jack? Or will they break off and stay just not with Locke?

35. Locke is defintely confused when it starts to rain. Something is not right and I’m sure we will find out what. But I was thinking that the monster was going to show up. It always seems to show up when it rains.
rain.jpg Click to enlarge

36. I’m really going to be interested to see why Juliet doesn’t get to go back to land. She was so desperate to get back to her sister and has done a lot to helpt he suviviors. And, the last she knew her sister was alive and well.

37. I think a big clue that the Boat People aren’t who they say they are is that instead of landing the helicopter and just rescuing them, they send in a parachuter. What can one guy do alone?

  1. Ray Says:

    Gitsie
What make you think that Juliet will not be of the people who does not get to go back to land?
Also the last screen shot point 37 when was that? I didnt catch it?

  2. Gitsie Girl Says:

    Ray,

There are flash forwards for Jack, Kate, Hurley, Jin & Sun and Sayid. That is why I don’t think Juliet makes it back. Plus, it would give Jack even more motivation to go back and save them. They have been the pair that *reaaaally* want to get off the isalnd and it would be an interesting twist for only one to make it.

I need to lighten the screen shot, sorry. That is when the parachuter lands and before he takes off his helmet.

  3. ben linus Says:

    Hi.
    Im totally confused :S
Why did you say that Locke didn’t blow up the sub??

    p.s.
    Nice blog :)

  4. msb Says:

    Great blog!

Where have you seen flash forwards for Jin, Sun & Sayid?

  5. Foffer Says:

#19: I don’t think Naomi is Penny’s sister. Wouldn’t Desmond have shown any sign of knowing who she was? He found the picture in Naomi’s book before he saw her. And then it seemed like he had no idea who she was.
    Sticking with Naomi…
Tying #20 and #22 together, we can assume that it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Naomi again, only that it wouldn’t be her; it would be Jacob.
And I’m pretty stoked I actually thought of stuff without you reminding me about it! (I commented about #23 and #27 on your last post, before you talked about them.)
    2 more days…

  6. Dela Says:

Great Site! One question for you - wouldn’t Hurley hallucinate Charlie as he always knew him? How could he “remember” him looking so daggone good?

  7. Gitsie Girl Says:

Ben Linus: Check out the picture of the explosion in this post and think about Locke right before the explosion - why was he wet? He probably tricked the Others into thinking he blew it up but really it took the sub down, swam up, set off the explosions fooling everyone into thinking it was gone.

MSB: I am the great all-seeing Gitsie Girl! BWA HA HA! Jk. If you check out the “flash” subject of the next couple of epis you can guess who is going back. Plus there are rumors swirling.

FOFFER: Claire and Jack are 1/2 sibs and they don’t know. Isn’t is possible Naomi was the *good* daughter of Widmore that followed her daddy’s wishes and Penny played more of the bad girl?

As far as your comments, I try not to read people’s comments too much before I make my *big* post so I’m not influenced. But there are so many good thoughts out there which is part of what makes me love, love, love this show. All the different theories.

DELA: Hm, good point. Maybe it’s how Hurley thinks he would look back on land.

  8. Deb Says:

A friend pointed this out to me, a 13 yr. old daughter found this:

John Locke, an English philosopher (1632-1704), based much of his philosophy on “faith”. He also believed in “Tabula Rasa”, Latin for Empty Slate, which is the title of the third episode of the 1st season.

David Hume, from Scotland (1711-1776), philosopher (notice the similar name to Desmond Hume from Scotland), beliefs of impressions and ideas being two types of perceptions. Impressions, as in flashes to the future.

There is brief mention in the book of a philosopher by the name of Russo.

Season Three, Last episode: titled Through the Looking Glass, which means, in philosophy mirrored perception. In that episode, Jack sees himself as he knew his father…a washed out drunk…mirrored perception. In the book Sophie’s World, the character Sophie, is talking to Pooh Bear about finding another character Hilde. Pooh suggests finding Hilde “through the Looking Glass”…potentially in a parallel universe.

The similarites in the book and Lost are uncanny.

  9. Gitsie Girl Says:

I hadn’t heard of the Russo one. Check out my post:

    http://www.gitsiegirl.com/lost-newspaper-article.htm

… to take it one step further.

  10. 1 of the losties Says:

Did anyone also notice that on the mural that it has the number 108 written twice and then on the guy it has the number 42 on his shirt (in mural)

And the guy in the rocking chair is so Christian Shepherd, it totally looks like him. Great Job again Gitsie Girl for a great bog spot

  11. 1 of the losties Says:

ha ha i wrote bog spot, meant blog spot lol

  12. Crazyray7391 Says:

I had three major questions with the Charlie and Hurley seen in this episode: How did the other guy see Charlie if he is dead? If he’s dead, how does he hit Hurley, and if he somehow is alive and off the island why does he tell Hurley that he’s dead?

This is kind of a crazy thought, but I’m not convinced that Charlie is dead yet. If Charlie gets off the island and for some reason he uses a different name now, that would answer all three of my questions about this scene.
    1. This would easily explain how the other guy sees Charlie.
    2. Again, this would easily explain how he is able to smack Hurley.
    3. When Charlie says “I am dead, but I’m also here,” this could mean that everybody is under the impression that Charlie Pace is dead, but he actually survived, got off the island, and is using a different name now that he is back. I know this is a reach, but I just never liked the way that they “killed off” Charlie, I don’t know why, but it just didn’t seem right. And on this island, I really believe that anything is possible.

  13. lindy the lostie Says:

Hey, you were trying to figure out how long they have been on the island. Jack mentions that they have been on the island 100 days :) in the latest episode.

  14. Actor Lance Reddick in FRINGE and LOST at FringeTVtalk Says:

[…] If you’re a fan of LOST (and of course you are) you probably noticed that actor Lance Reddick who plays LOST’s Matthew Abaddon (aptly, I think, dubbed “Creepy Eyed Man” in point 12 of her post on LOST fansite GitsieGirl.com) is playing Fringe character Homeland Security Agent Phillip Broyles. FRINGE character Phillip Broyles […]
