I think there is a hint of what might have happened in this story - as far as the ruler dying and the two sides fighting for control. I would still contend that there are two sets of Others each with their own agenda. Scott - I would think that for at least the first 1/2 of the show they could make this happen over 24 hours. This would be a convenient way to not have to explain why Sun never shows, they don't have to explain where Mike and Walt are, and time to fully explore the lair of the Others that we are about to see. Plus, Penny will be acting quickly on the location of Desmond and if we only have 24 hours over this season (or even 1/2 the season) the writers won't have to really develop Penny moving on finding the island.
