The End of Lost

There are lots of rumors and articles floating around the internet about when Lost is going to end. One says 2009 and another says 2010.

Click here for one such article.

It makes sense that it would end in 2009. The writers have said since the beginning that they were only going to go for five years and were writing each season accordingly. I like that idea. What, you say, Gitsie Girl gone mad?! No, I love this show but come on, how long can you sustain the idea of these people on this island like guinea pigs? Plus, I like a show to go out on top not beating every story line and character angle to it’s bitter end (I can see it now, Sawyer starts his own tribe with the other Others who turn out to be the Harlem Globetrotters!).

But, per the article above, they may also have a way to end it at 5 seasons, stretching it over 6 seasons.  Money grubbing ABC.

There is supposed to be an official press release on May 15th so we will see then what the decision will be.

I’m not sure where you are getting 2009, but it looks like it is pretty much in stone as to 2010. See EW.com for the interview with Damon and Carlton with Jeff Jenson…

…I really like the 16 episode/3 season approach. When you take emotion out of it, it really does make the most sense. As Carlton says, they can make better quality episodes with more time to prepare and I’m guessing they will deliver on that. And lets be honest, obviously ABC wanted the most seasons they could get and Damon/Carlton wanted to wrap it up as they had originally intended. This obviously was the best compromise and I think it works out for the best.

As far as beating characters into the ground…lets talk after the finale and the “Rattlesnake in the Mailbox” is revealed. I have no idea where this is going, but I can’t wait to find out. Heres to a good rest of the season.

16 quality eps, uninterrupted, 3 more years… sounds good to me.

  3. Emily Says:

Yes, I think it’s pretty set that it’s three seasons of 16 episodes each. I sort of recall there being a press release about it, actually.

Nate, you question GG? I *know* it’s outdated but here is the story about 2009:

I, for one, do not like the 16 episode idea. That means SEVEN MONTHS without a new episode. Then three more years. Can it sustain the idea, the writing, the acting, the directing? Will people still watch or will the ratings wane and then ABC cancels before they can finish? The last thing I lasted seven years was for… er…. um….. well, my daughter is 13 and I still like her.

  5. Nate Says:

Actually GG, it is 7 more months and then only TWO years and some change until the end of the show. When it starts next year it will be 2008.

Besides that….OH MY GOD…what an episode tonight!

  6. Gitsie Girl Says:

But according to your article they are doing three more years. 2008, 16 episodes. 2009, 16 episodes. 2010, 16 episodes. By my count, three years.

Agreed, dark and wonderful tonight. So much to think on and watch again!

  7. Nate Says:

semantics…3 years if you mean 3 years of the show. But when the show starts next spring, it will only be 2 years and 4 months until the show is over. That is what I meant. You made it sound like when it starts back up in FEB of 2008 it won’t be over for 3 more years.

Anyway…still loving your recaps and like I said…What an episode. I need a screenshot of WHATEVER was in that room with Ben and Locke. I swear I saw something. What the hell was Jacob?

  8. Gitsie Girl Says:

I’ll have it in screencaps by tomorrow night. I agree, that was very odd. Will have to post some of them and see if there is anything there that we missed when it was all going by so fast. VERY CARRIE like, eh?

  9. Scott Cramer Says:

Nate - thought I saw something too, but when I played it back it was a quick cut to a closeup of Locke’s stubbly grizzled face facing to the right toward the exit of the shack. It lasted about a second and you heard “help me” and then they pulled out for a full scene with Locke’s reaction to the “help me” and his accusation on Ben. I was disappointed - I really thought they flashed to a vision of someone/thing sitting in the chair.

  10. Connor Says:

    It ends at season 6.
