Will you watch?

I’m looking at my blog feeling guilty for not having written anything since early this month.  Will I keep this blog going for the remainder of the season?  Probably.  It’s not because the big pause in episodes that I’ve somehow lost (no pun intended) my *oomph* for this blog or my interest in the show.  So what is it and will *you* still watch?

I’ve been thinking the best way to summarize the show this season so far is watered down.  It’s really lost it’s edge.  Have the writers grown weary?  Has ABC insisted on changes, like sexing up the show, to boost ratings?  And if that is the case WHY move the show to 10 when most working people are in bed (say, thank you to TiVo for saving the ass*s of more than one show).  But I’m sure that poor ratings are going to be blamed on the hiatus.  Which is ridiculous.  I, amongst many, waited anxiously over the summer for Lost to return.  I didn’t lose my interest even a tiny bit.  But then it comes back on and we are given weak story lines, pretty new characters out of no where, and forced dialog.  Sorry ABC, it has nothing to do with the hiatus.

So you won’t be finding long thought out blogs here on Wednesday nights after the show.  They will be around just not immediately like before.  I’ll still have to TiVo and watch the show, but you won’t find Gitsie Girl driving 60 in the 35 zone to get home and watch it live.  I might stay up for the first couple of weeks to see if they can bring this show back to life but I cannot promise that I’ll not eventually wait even until the weekend to watch the episode.  Especially if rumors are true and they are going to make us suffer through a back story for Ken or Barbie (aka Nikki and Paulo).

It’s sad to see Lost be infected by the *black oil.* Remember the good old X-Files before the black oil came into play?  There is still good TV out there (I’m thinking Heroes) but will they dumb down these shows too when they want to boost ratings?  I mean, Lost was not developed to draw the American Idol fans.  Sure, I like that show but if I want to use my brain I turn to Lost.  Are they thinking that they can add sexy characters and AI fans will turn over the channel?  I guess this is a moot point considering the new time slot anyway.

On an aside, I’ve noticed that my Lost site isn’t the only one that has lost it’s steam.  It’s hard finding Lost news anymore outside of who is getting arrested or divorced.  I’m worried that Lost may not even make it another year if fans are turning away.

So I’ll keep watching and I hope you keep reading and leaving comments.  Tell me that I’m wrong, please!  Tell me that you love the new direction and why!  I literally put in the first couple of episodes (Season 1) the other weekend to remind myself why I became so obsessed with this show.  It was a beautiful thing.  But did I just torture myself watching the old episodes?  Remember when Kate didn’t cry all the time?  Remember when Locke was the lone horseman wandering through the woods doing who only knows what?  Remember when we heard the whispers and were intrigued?  I want that back, please!

I actually have really loved season 3 so far. Now, I HATE the triangle with a burning passion and I hate Pikki just as much, but I have to admit, I think the Others storyline totally eclipses everything else on the show for interestingness. I think Ben and Juliet are possibly the best written characters on the show and the most intriguing, and I’m so excited to see more of them. Frankly I’m dreading having to see more of the original cast when the show returns. I think most of their story lines have been exhausted (with maybe the exception of Claire) and I think Desmond’s precognition thing is stupid.

But I know a lot of people are embittered over the lack of beach time in season 3 so far, so I will keep my peace during that time. :)

I haven’t enjoyed the third season (so far) nearly as much as seasons one and two, but neither have I given up all hope of LOST returning to its previous (and not very long ago) glory. I love the show, LOVE IT, and I’ll continue watching through to the very end. Sure, I hope that things pick up again… but I could never stop watching Jack, Kate, Hurley, et al.!

However, and no offense to you (because I know you love Sawyer), I was horrified when Kate slept with Sawyer. I’m hoping we’ll learn more about her true feelings when the show picks up next week.

I would have agreed about Season III not being as good if I had’nt done something. I purchased Season’s I and II on DVD and am watching them again. I then watched a Season III episode the other night and wanted new episodes to roll on!!

Oddley, I do miss the hatch. I will also miss this website if the updates cease. This is the best Lost website on the internet (I have seen about 15-20 of them) and I love the updates.

Fingers crossed that Season III improves. Lets just hope we don’t see Locke hunting in the sub or Sawyer getting off with every woman on the Island!!

    ;)

    Cheers,
    Stu.

I have to say I’ve felt much the same way you do at various points in this really, really long hiatus, but I’m starting to get pumped again. I’ve started watching Heroes and I have a few other shows I follow, but they remind me what it is that I love about LOST and why it is still so unique because where else are you going to find a smallish, spectacled villain trading quotes from Of Mice and Men with a 9th grade dropout conman?

I recommend you download and listen to the latest LostCasts podcast. The guys (and guest girl) go over IGN’s 50 mystery list and it will hopefully remind you, as it did me, of the things that we’ve loved about the show from the beginning and the fun of discussing them.

As for the time change, since I’m in the central time zone, it actually works pretty well for me. When it came on at 8 my time, I had to rush bedtime routines to be ready at 8. Yeah, I could have chased playback, but I like watching it the first time live with the commercial breaks that give me time to digest what I’ve seen.

Cheer up Gitsie. Kill Ken and Barbie some more. You’ve kept me cheered with those pictures all hiatus.

I’ve been sort of disappointed this season too, because I’m really not feeling this whole action thing with all the chasing and shooting etc. What I loved about Lost was the mysterious stuff like Claire’s psychic, Walt (!!! I cannot believe they just totally let go of everything that had to do with him, I’m still hoping they will somehow bring him back), the numbers etc.
This love triangle annoys the hell out of me and Kate is one of the most boring characters on the island and her flashbacks are the least interesting to me next to Charlie’s, so this whole Kate/Sawyer/Jack focus so far in this season is not really what I want out of the show. Add to that those annoying new survivors…
But at the same time things have to change and can’t always stay the same (that’s life, not just in tv shows). And I remember in the beginning of season 2 that whole hatch thing looked to me as if it would ruin everything. I mean, the idea of them having food available whenever, being able to shower regularly and listen to music really worried me. Or when they added Ana-Lucia and them. But then everything worked out to be really interesting and mysterious again in the end. So I’m just hoping that that’s how it’s gonna be again soon. I can’t wait to see what happens on the main island with Locke and Desmond and them.

You have hit it dead-on with the black oil on the X-Files. I loved that shows “monster of the week” quality, but it got bogged down every time Mulder acquired another clue to his sister’s disappearance. This season of Lost has been weaker than last year, though I could go back and say the second season wasn’t as good as the first. But the reason for that is based on the novel idea behind the show when it began airing in season one. (Technically, however, most shows improve between first and second years because they work the kinks out and lose what doesn’t work, developing a strong basis for what the creators are trying to accomplish.) Anyway, that two month haitus was definitely a killer in momentum for me. I would like to add, though, that after the second season ended in May, by the time I got to October, I had lost my enchantment with the show even then. Out of sight, out of mind. BTW, love the sight and your glib comments. Hope you keep it going cause it enhances my enjoyment of Lost overall!!!
